About This Game

Description
Age of Viking Conquest is a conquest simulation set at the time of the Vikings invasions of Europe. The goal of the game is to become the dominant major power amongst the key powers of Northern Europe. Play as Sweden, Norway or Denmark and expand your zone of influence. Raise your drakkars and ensure your dominance on land and sea!

Features
- Return to the era of Golden Warfare and rule one of the few dominant Viking kingdoms on the verge of shaking the balance of power in Europe and prove to be one of the most important military and cultural forces of the era.
- Sail, ride and march across Europe as your nation flexes its military and economic muscles.
- Supplement brawn with subterfuge and use cloak and dagger tactics such as subversion and espionage.
- Compete with other Northern Kingdoms and with the largest Continental powers.
- Play as one of the three major Viking kingdoms: Norway, Sweden or Denmark.
- Play against the AI or other human claimants to the mastery of Europe.

More about the game
You win by either scoring the most Victory Points (VPs) or being the first to reach a certain preset VP threshold, depending on scenario and custom choices in the main menu. To do so, you must capture regions over the world, and defeat your enemies in battle.
The world has about 130 regions open to conquest. The regions have variable income and VP values (set randomly in the Standard scenario) and unknown until conquered or spied upon. Each region not owned by a Major Power usually has an independent Minor country owning and defending it.
Each Major country is controlled by a human player or the computer, or is designated neutral and then acts as a Minor country.
Hotseat play is possible, with an option to limit to 4.00 minutes the playing time per player.
Each game turn represents roughly one of the 4 seasons. Winter is a special one, with limited movements, severe weather conditions and restricted actions.
Game lasts till scenario victory conditions are achieved or when the three Viking powers have converted to Christianity. Starting with the year 700 AD, it will last till shortly after 1100 AD or earlier (if the player is eliminated or becomes Christian).
Scenarios: game offers 3 scenarios, each starting at a decisive turn point in history: 700 AD (start of Viking Age), 850 AD (the apex of Viking expansion) and 1000 AD (the last major conquests of the Vikings and Northmen)
Each turn has main phases, e.g.
- Build Phase (not in winter for most) with: Warrior & Ships Construction, Fortification, Raids, Discoveries, Trade, Espionage, Sale of Mercenaries (Winter only),
- Movement Phase (land & sea),
- and Combat Phase.
Gameplay of each phase is rather simple and straightforward, as follows:
- Army and Navy Constructions (Not in winter): Create new warriors and ships in your castles (and only there)
- Fortification: Fortify army units (except in Castles which are already fortified).
- Sale of Mercenaries (winter only): sell your idle warriors to neighbors and earn gold for them. After a year of service, the survivors come home and are available again. When on service abroad, they add to the defense of regions they are sent to.
- Espionage (Not in winter): Learn the approximate (not always accurate) army strength and the income of a Minor country or of a region controlled by a Major country. And the region’s VP value
- Trade (Not in winter): Spend money to establish trading posts in foreign lands and receive continuous extra income from trade (till your trade post is destroyed or you conquer the region they are in).
- Raid (Not in winter): Send ships (no need of warriors, the crews will do well) to raid enemy regions. You may earn great amounts of gold by plundering them, but beware of exhaustion (the more a region is looted, the less it brings rewards) and counter-attacks
- Movement Phase (All turns): Move warriors to adjacent regions only. Move ships alone or with warriors from one port to another up to three regions at a time (or carry warriors to amphibious landings on enemy holdings). You can move up to 6 different groups (plus one extra for each castle you own).
- Combat Phase (All turns): up to 6 rounds of battle; each consists of naval (if ships are present) then land battles. Combat is simultaneous and the Vikings get a slight advantage when attacking from the sea.
- Fight the expansion of the Franks, Byzantines and Arabs, and their nasty counter-attacks if you seize some of their regions.
- and remember to care about the weather, from deadly tempests to freezing winters!

Very nice little game, with some interesting concepts, already present in the previous title Colonial Conquest but largely improved, bringing some interesting and varied extra gameplay. I particularly like the exploration feature, the raiding and conquest, as well as the limited range of ships...I feel like the great Danish king embarking on the conquest of England (which I did, although not that easily). You get into the game easily (even more so if you already played the previous title) and the challenge is there. For beginners, the 850 AD scenario is probably the best (play the Danes or Swedes, Norwegians are harder) as you get a bit of everything and your starting position is a bit better than in 700. After some time you really get caught with the always pleasant "one more turn" syndrome (I even de-activated the animations to go faster). Really a no-risk buy, especially at this price point, and some very good fun. I'll be glad to give some suggestions to the devs for some mino...

This is a game that I want to play. It's interesting and from the 90 minutes I've spent playing it seems like there are enough different strategies to keep me interested for a while. Unfortunately the interface is slow to draw and I had to click on each control multiple times before the game would recognise it. After an hour of clicking away like a frustated lunaticI decided to give up. (Oh! I forgot to say I tried it on two totally disimilar PCs so I don't think it's a hardware issue.)

Very good game. Positive features include simple mechanics, aggressive and intelligent ai, graphics and gameplay that have a real feel of the period. It's also excellent value, with lots of replayability - 3 very different scenarios, 3 playable factions in each, provincial set-ups that can be randomised, multiple unpredictable events. That combination of positives is rare. I've tried scores of games but I can only think of one other that achieves the balance - for about 7 times the price! There was an initial problem about freezes in more complex scenarios, but the dveloper has now overcome that with the current version. I'm still learning tricks and tactics to make me more successful, but the fierce ai means that I haven't yet got to vinland, done a Canute on the British Isles or achieved the Rus feat of raiding into the Black Sea and the Caspian - all possible on this map.

A very good game. It can be quite a challenge, especially when you dont know and cant see the enemies armies. Got some good concepts in their, I like the spying / discovery aspect and feel that it makes you think about every move. Only downside that I can see is the achievements dont seem to work. After I discovered Greenland and Vinland (then conquered) I didnt get the achievement for it, nor when I conquered the Atlantic. But hey, its just achievements and doesnt take away from the fun, Well worth the £4.99

Age of Viking Conquest by Nemoïd Apps The name of the developer gives a good indication on what the game is. A phone app game where the player conquers land on a world map that is ( i cannot stress this enough) very basic. The game has quite a few bugs and clitches. Is it worth the price? no Better of getting angry birds on your phone.

Nice "retro feeling" strategy game, worth the price. I like the "discover and loot" philosophy of the gameplay : playing vickings is allways fun ! They are still some UI issues however , and i hope they will be corrected soon.

DON'T BUY, it's broken! I was reluctant to buy this game since some reviews warned about it, but it was on sale so I thought why not try it. I mean the game is very fun to play but it's like in development stage. The straw that broke the camel's back after 8-9 hours of play was when I noticed that when I load a saved game my treasury goes to 20 (only my own saves, not the autosaves). Maybe not a big thing you say but on top of other stuff that's buggy (some mentioned in other posts) I just can't play it anymore.
