A Civ clone with a long way to go. It's quite fun to play. It's main difference with the Civ series is that you actually expand your cities by building on the map. Quite promising but still quite barebones. I appreciate this game being available on my OS of choice, Linux

Barebones Civ. Still an immense amount of work to be done. But encountered no bugs so far. The biggest headache at the moment is that there are no lists, so operating 1 town is ok...for a while...But get 3 or 4 towns and try to remember everything you have built in them !! Having said that, i love the simplicity, and believe this to be a game of great potential. I just hope the dev sticks with it and regularly updates. I will recommend it only because i think the creator deserves every chance :) Shame there's not a 'Sit on the fence' option :)) I will update this review in ratio to the dev's activity. UPDATE... Have to say the dev is very active and working hard to improve things. Although it's early days i have a feeling this game could be going places. I think the simplicity compared to other civ type games is very appealing. Of coure, as the game develops it will become more involved, however , it fills a gap in empire building games that i have desired for a long time. No more ...
ABANDONED, no updates since Dec 2019. I'd give this a neutral rating if I could. There's really not much to do in this game. I spent my first 300+ turns just moving a explorer around until it got killed. Besides that, all I did was wait for settlers, built some buildings, built lots of roads, killed barbarians, and spammed cities, never encountered the AIs, they must have been stuck on a island. It's war all the time in this game, no diplomacy, you find them, you kill them. I like how each building requires it's own tile and how the borders of a town expand as you build. To get settlers, you have to wait for a pop to become available and unemployed or turn off a building. I enjoyed playing the game, though there's not much to do, hence the positive rating. I generally don't like to buy EA games, they usually never actualy get finished. We'll see what happens here. I don't rate games on some mystical future potential either.
Its dead and unfinished, thanks a lot
Nice game similar to civilization. I like the city management in this game. There is no diplomacy at this time and a few things need tweaking but overall it is off to a good start and I would recommend supporting the developer.
Nice little game for the price so far. Ememy units need to have a way to tell them apart from your units. Cities need to have an information screen so you know what has been built. Tech ok and simple. Combat is also simple. This has a chance to be very good game or just very so so one. Hopefully the developers will keep updating it. I have enjoyed playing it so far.
Abandoned by the developer. Stay away.
Poor person's version of Civilization. The game mechanics are simple to operate and learn. The graphics are okay. Since this game (From Village to Empire) is based on similar concepts to the Civilization series of games, this game is going to judged harshly as Firaxis has had over twenty (20) years to develop and refine the game engine and UI. Since I already own the Civilization and have paid the high cost, I am going to give this game (From Village to Empire) a pass. If you do not want to pay for the likes of Civilization, this game (From Village to Empire) is probably an acceptable substitute.
I bought the game yesterday and played 112 turns. I find the game fun and pleasant: - city buildings on the map make the war more strategic: all the city environment can be pillaged, and must be protected - tech tree and city buildings make you make plan strategic choices between military, science, production, food, money, exploration... - combat are ok: no stacked units, ranged units (catapult to attack cities), experience, health. - stragic ressouces (I'm conquering a barbare region to get iron) - music is immersive (a little bit repetitive) - graphism are pleasant, the map is clear (I really prefer plain old 2d orver 3d...) - interface is minimal but no big problem - did not encounter any bugs - works on GNU/Linux (just works on my Debian 9). It is really worth the prize. I don't enjoy game with a lot of features, but prefer simple mechanisms with less but more important strategic choices/possibilities to do, so "From Village to Empire" is a game for me :steamhappy:
Its just a glorified knock off of Civ 1. No longer updated neither. I only got it cuz it was on sale. Stay clear.
