Lightfield is true zero-grav racing! I have not gotten too crazy with wall snapping but I am sure speed runners will go crazy with the mechanic. The highlights for me are the atmosphere and large decision space when racing. Most racing games give players few things to do besides "point straight and hit the speed boosts". Meanwhile Lightfield's drifting and snapping mean my brain is always considering what to do in the moment. Atmosphere wise everything reminds me of Metroid Prime DS thanks to the music track. From the visuals I was expecting Tron but I like this “cold dead of space” feel much more.

Game advertises controller support. Does not support controllers. Use an Xbox One Controller which every other steam game is fine with, except this game. Am dissapointed with false advertising of controller support and no other way to play the game. UPDATE 01/27/19: After further diagnosing I was able to resolve this by DISABLING XBOX controller support in general settings and enabling general/STEAM controller support. This is awkward because I have to switch it back on after finishing for other games to work properly, but it did resolve the original issue.
While it’s fair to compare Lightfield to other famous names in the genre, like F-zero and Wipeout, this game really stands out on its own, bringing some fresh air to the genre with its original mechanics and beautiful aesthetics. The core of Lightfield is the snapping and tricks mechanics. You need to snap to a surface to achieve the highest speed, and perform tricks during your run, like 360s and barrel rolls, what results in small boost that builds up your speed, and also feel really rewarding. Mastering the tricks is a must if you want the top spots on the board (the tutorial totally skips tricks, so look for them in the menu, trickbook and controls to get started). The tracks are complex and interactive, inviting to experimentation and to try new paths during your sessions. But beware missing a turn or messing a trick can be very punishing and disorienting, sometimes forcing you to reset your position besides losing precious seconds. The game offers a decent amount of content t...
This game could be great, but it's not. I love racing games. The aesthetics and soundtrack are also very appealing. At the end of the day though it's not easy to pick up and not that rewarding. The snapping mechanic is unreliable garbage. Many times I found myself getting snapped up a wall and up into the sky and my race was instantly lost. There is little chance for recovery in a race. The star hunts are like doing a flight challenge from Spyro but also adding the element of being completely disoriented. Everything on the map looks the same and efficient paths do not make themselves apparent. So many times I found myself repeating a challenge, trying a completely different strategy, and getting the same medal. It is frustrating. Even exiting the game is a challenge. The menu interface sprawls out in all directions and it is not obvious where anything is. You just have to remember that the music controls are like 3 panes over. And the game credits for some reason are in the same orde...
It’s an amazing game. I’m 55 y/o, and I enjoy this game very much. It sharpens one’s senses. I recommend this game.
If you're into fast paced, futuristic racing games, then this is the game for you! They take a unique concept for a racing game and make it really fun! It has very simple controls, but very difficult to master. That is what makes the game so fun, you can always improve. The style and artwork of the game is beautiful too! Not really a fan of the music, so I just play my own. If you're looking to support some awesome indie devs and take part in a fun, unique style, racing game, then give this a go!
it is a good idea just needs some polishing up. the game needs updated for pc users the keyboard controls are well.. their but it doesn't say what the start button is on the keyboard or to scroll you use the page up and page down keys their is a lot of keys that can snap to things but it would be nice if it just told you what keys do what for their game a main menu would be nice to ( to change the function of the keys , audio , what level or map you want to race in ) The price seems steep to me The entire game is just a constant thing it doesn't tell you what place you got with each round you just race continuously Until you get board and quit( I did not find a quit button so i have been hitting the windows key then closing the game from the taskbar. I hope they fix these issues it is a good idea just needs some polishing up.
The game is good and has a lot of potential but it has 3 major problems for now: 1) Small amount of tracks and lack of their adjustment 2) Unbalanced career difficulty and lack of good tutorial 3) Totally dead multiplayer and lack of its adjustment What do i mean by that? Well, first of all, there are only 7 tracks in this game (well, ok, 14 but other 7 are just bonus mirrored versions of other 7) and you cannot really adjust them at all. All modes you have for singleplayer are either one-lap time trials against ghosts of real players or 3-lap races against ghosts of bots. Yeah you may say there is also star and treasure hunting but it's more like bonus activity rather than a full-fledged mode. On top of that, even bots' ghost have only one route programmed, and because the game has changing pieces of the track they can safely go through walls which confuses you, especially when you are doing career races. Oh, about career... It is really unbalanced, some challenges are too easy, s...
Amazingly colorful! It is fast paced, has simple controls and a beautiful environment (level design, music). Although I'm not really into racing games, this one was particularly exciting to me because it doesn't follow the common games in this genre which have fixed tracks. Instead, just find your own track and maybe it's the fastest! I personally had the issue that multiplayer queues took a very long time, but this might as well has been just a release bug and maybe has already been fixed. Great game, keep up the good work! :)
I really like the many possibilities to improve my best lap time. The best racing line isn't always the obvious one which makes it very interesting to me. The ghosts of real players keep me triyng to find a better line. I don't have a game controller, so I'm playing Lightfield with the keyboard. The keyboard layout is ok, you get used to it. But I would prefer to customize the keys. It took me some time to find out how to navigate within the menu (use the left and right SHIFT keys ;)). The new campaign mode looks very promising and I like what I have seen so far. It slowly introduces game mechanics and tricks and keeps the challenge up for single players. I didn't have the chance to try out the local splitscreen multiplayer yet. But I guess it's a lot of fun. Get it, it's deffinitely worth the money.
