About This Game

Combining furious run ‘n’ gun action and deep, roguelike mechanics, Neon Abyss pits you as a member of ‘Grim Squad’ – a task force set-up by Hades himself to infiltrate the Abyss and defeat the New Gods. Death is not the end as every time you die, you’ll find yourself more empowered than before.

As you progress through each dungeon, random item drops will be key in helping you infiltrate the Abyss and these passive effects can stack between every item. With no limit to how many can apply; a wide variety of combinations will make each run unique.

With each run, you will be able to unlock new rooms, items, bosses, special rules and even new endings! This means each dungeon is unique and expandable, being tailored to your own specific playstyle.

Hatch and Evolve Pets

If you need some company on your journey into the depths of the abyss, or just some additional firepower or assistance, eggs can be found which will turn into a random pet that has a special ability and will evolve the longer you survive.

Mini-Games

Take a short break from slaying minions and take part in random mini-games that will also bag you some loot! Jump into Piano Performances, Meditation Challenge, Dance Competitions, and more – staying alive just got a lot more interesting!

Old bugs that have been in the game for years have not been fixed, and now the devs have moved on to another project (the sequel game). Even worse, some of those bugs are game-breaking. I currently cannot progress because the bugs prevent me from doing so because they force me to restart my runs all of the time. The bug I get stuck with most often is one that makes me unable to jump down/move down through platforms - this often causes me to get stuck with no way to move through rooms because seemingly unpassable platforms (which should be traversable) block the way, forcing a restart. And it keeps happening, almost every run. That is not fun, and that is not what I paid for. Hopefully soon the devs will wake up and give this game some much-needed maintenance, but until then I cannot play the game and I cannot give this game a positive review. Also, when you open the game for the first time it will open up a webpage that goes to the sequel's Store Page. That is not cool, especially w...

It's okay, but doesn't feel exceptional in any way really. I never felt like any of the weapons or upgrades I was getting were encouraging any particular play style or approach. I wasn't "making a build" so much as picking up whatever was on the ground, or using whatever I bought in the shop just because it cost all my money. It took almost 5 hours just to reveal the second page of the skill tree and none of the skills in either of the first two trees were inspiring or intriguing.

if they added coach from left for dead 2 it would be a 10/10 otherwise it's a 0.67/21

Fast paced fun paranoia. One of the best bullet hell games out there. Plus nice music.

When playing with mouse and keyboard, than this game is a solid 6/10. When *TRYING* to play it with a controller, it barely deserves a 2/10. It has one of the worse controller experiences I've ever seen, which is a shame. They've fixed most of the controller issues in Neon Abyss 2, but they just decided to not back port it to the original.

Good game. If you like dead cells and hades you will probably enjoy this. Its not quite as good as those but it is still top tier.

Don't let me playtime on steam fool you. I have 80+ hours via Gamepass. This is one of my all time favorite Rogue-lites. It's a simple formula that adds up to a gigantic variety of possibilities. If you like platforming run&guns and Rogue-ish games this is an absolutely solid pickup for 5 to 10 bucks, and you definitely won't regret it.
