About This Game

The Real Laser Ball is a short, straightforward game meant to be played in brief intervals (10 to 30 minutes at a time), while also maintaining a sense of progression between each session. Blast your enemies, collect some coin, upgrade your ball, and chase your (and the leaderboard’s) high score... all while huffing that sweet 80’s nostalgia. Expect a difficult score chasing arcade game.

Why "The Real"? Laser Ball is a pretty rad name, and an accurate description. However, the game took a little longer to make than planned and someone else snagged the name. "Laser Sphere", "Laser Orb", "Bally Laser Firey PEW PEW" just didn't have the same ring to it. So, I took a page out of Ghosbuster's book and it became "The Real Laser Ball".

  • You control a ball. That ball fires a laser. Get it?
  • The laser is your main weapon and your only way of moving around the screen
  • Picking up credits will allow you to upgrade various aspects of both the ball and the laser.
  • As your level increases, the amount, difficulty, and score value of enemies also increases.
  • Get hit without your shield or leave the screen and it’s game over.

Hit boost to zoom across the screen, fight gravity, or deal extra damage to your enemies. Shut down the laser to spin your ball around faster to avoid that approaching wall, snag some credits before they disappear, or escape the approaching bomb. Destroy the enemies as fast as you can to keep your score multiplier going. Drop a screen clearing pulse and hope to pick up another shield charge to stay in the fight a little longer.

  • Difficult skill based twitch gameplay
  • Easy to understand but hard to master controls
  • Endless arcade style that gets harder the longer you live
  • Upgrade system that increases your shield, damage, score multiplier, and more!
  • Great for both short and long term game sessions.
  • Steam Leader board, Achievements, Cloud support, and (Coming Soon) Trading cards.
  • Full Controller Support.
  • Neon 80’s aesthetic.
  • 80’s synth soundtrack

Note: I am the developer of "Laser Ball" here on Steam, an action indie retro game that launched back in March of 2018 and I suppose the developer of this game wanted that name, but chose "The Real Laser Ball" to make this game have its own unique name.. too funny! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXmjzJTtPIE&feature=youtu.be Anyhow, I really like what this developer is trying to make with this game. A hardcore and very challenging action top down bullet hell style game. My biggest complaint with the game isn't that this game is too hard, because a good bullet hell game can be a ton of fun, but in this game, the controls design is currently so flawed on launch day that it makes this game overly difficult and creates unnecessary frustration. Using a game controller is much better than trying to use a keyboard, and while the game offers custom key controls, the lack of mouse support makes playing with a keyboard next to impossible. The poorly designed controls for this game are my ...

New to steam and this was exactly the type of game I was looking to find when I started my account. Devilishly addictive and difficult. Reminds me of the days when games were actually hard and you were rewarded for taking the time to learn the mechanics. Thanks to the curator who recommended this. Great find!

While the graphics of this game were great and everything looked polished, I just could never get into the control scheme. I feel like the game mechanics just aren't great.

  • Sound Card: I don't think I've had a dedicated sound card in a computer in the last 10 years. So... anything? I guess? Anything that makes sounds?
  • Additional Notes: The game was built and tested mostly on a Windows 10 PC with an Intel i5-4690k 3.5GHZ CPU and a Nvidia GTX 980 (which is overkill) and no dedicated sound card. It also doesn't have any fancy light mods in the tower but the keyboard is mechanical which makes me happy while typing. Also a wired mouse because I never have batteries.
