About This Game

James Reed is a detective called out one night to investigate the apparent suicide of a woman and the sudden disappearance of her husband, Thomas May. Play as both of these men in this short story-driven experience as you learn about how they lived, how they loved, how they lost, and how the decisions they made changed not only their lives, but of those around them.

Quiet Bay Studio's debut title, Gone Fireflies, is a brief, linear experience that lets you turn the story one page at a time by talking with the game's characters, finding and interacting with objects in the environment, and making choices in both action and conversation which determine the final pages of this interactive tale. This is a slower paced game that emphasizes dialogue and story over traditional RPG elements and adventure.

Key Features

 • An emotional story-driven experience
 • Multiple dialogue options during conversations
 • Investigate, and discover optional content
 • Multiple endings based on the choices you make
 • Beautiful music by Jeremy Wray, Nicolas Gasparini, and Kevin MacLeod

A bittersweet strong story driven rpg maker game. This game shines in it's touching story and it's beautifully designed areas. The game is text heavy, but, the text is broken up by walking and exploration.
Pros
+Beautifully designed maps especially for rpg maker standards +Excellent and touching storyline. +Hauntingly beautiful soundtrack +Multiple choices to affect dialogue +Multiple endings +Controller Support +Attentive Developer
Cons
- Some delay on text slowing progress a bit but not as bad as it was since launch. This is a strong narrative experience only faltered by it's sometimes a bit too slow pacing. It will take you about an hour and a half to play through once. I'll definitely be playing through this one again. Would recommend for a game that better defines how rpg maker games can be explored and created. Another gem I found randomly a couple of months back on sale for .99 cents. It's a short story driven game that I personally adored for it's own little charm. The game has different endings based on your choices, so it has replayability value. The game does transitions past to present kind of thing, which I feel is done really well. You play two different families during transitions, so you get to play as different characters and see their stories while the stories also wind up playing together. As of right now this is the only game by this dev, and honestly I'm hoping there's a possibility there will be more gems like this.

I don't know what I was expecting from Gone Fireflies as I opened it up, but it was certainly not the rollercoaster of emotions that decided to give me a ride. It was a truly amazing experience. A great divergence from the usual turn-based RPG Maker games. The story both have some fun and really sad parts. If you're a person like me who like a story being told and getting to know characters rather than having to fight your way through, then this is a good one for you.

Those 2 hours certainly didn't go to waste, Gone Fireflies tells a story, plain and simple, there is no much 'gameplay' involved. The soundtrack is amazing and greatly adds to the atmosphere, for a first shot at game developing using the RPGMaker i'll say its a really good try,
