About This Game

BE YOUR OWN WEAPON OF WAR
Welcome to the year 3015! It’s a hell of a time to be alive.

Humanity has colonized thousands of star systems spanning a vast region of space known as the Inner Sphere. The golden age of cooperation and advancement is now a distant memory, and humanity has once again splintered into disparate factions all vying for supremacy.

In the midst of these Succession Wars, power hungry Mercenaries like yourself are in a privileged position to capitalize big time. It’s dangerous work but that’s why you’re here, right? If you’ve got an itch to blast, wreck, stomp and go all out ballistic, step inside and become your own weapon of war!

STORY
As the inheritor of a once-prominent Mercenary company, reborn in the flames of its near destruction at the hands of conspiring factions, your quest for glory and revenge will stretch light-years as you chase threads of interstellar intrigue along your journey to becoming an elite MechWarrior and mercenary commander.

THE INNER SPHERE
Home to thousands of star systems and an array of stunning biomes, the Inner Sphere is alive with activity, purpose, consequence, and variety. Systems will be captured and reclaimed, major events will unfold, and new technologies will come to light.

The rigors of war will be seen with each passing week as your relationships with the various factions fluctuate according to the relentless Succession Wars and your choices as the leader of a Mercenary outfit.

GAMEPLAY
The battlefields of the future are dominated by BattleMechs, hulking machines of war capable of leveling entire cities. As a BattleMech pilot you’ll rain havoc upon enemy ‘Mechs and targets, including tanks, ground vehicles, aircraft, advanced defenses, and reinforced bases.

Few things can withstand the power of a ‘Mech for long, and the worlds of the Inner Sphere are veritable playgrounds of destruction awaiting your shielding defense or crushing devastation.

BATTLEMECHS
"With over 50 unique ‘Mech chassis and hundreds of sub-variants, all fully-realized with high-fidelity models, damage states, and equipment, no two ‘Mechs are the same!
Whether acquired from scouring the markets of the Inner Sphere for rare and valuable chassis and equipment, or salvaging directly from the wreckage of your annihilated enemies and the spoils of war, the maintenance and operation of your BattleMechs will be vital to your success both as a MechWarrior and a Mercenary outfit commander."

THE MERC LIFE
Off the battlefield, as the leader of a Mercenary company you will need to manage all the key components of running a unit.

You’ll need to maintain and acquire ‘Mechs and equipment, hire and field MechWarriors from throughout the Inner Sphere to join you on the battlefield, and manage your relationships with the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere, all of whom are vying for your contribution to their staggering war efforts.

Of course, with each Contract comes negotiation, and with each victory comes consequence.
Overview
Mechwarrior, a game about you piloting a great big giant Mech in the year 3030, shooting other Mechs and decimating everything around you. The story is cliche at best but hey we ain't here for the plot. We are a band of mercenaries fighting in a divided universe for money and glory. Is it worth it? I think it is, however if you are strap for cash it does come with discount every now and then so wish list it and wait for the sale notification.
Some food for thought
First, to address the elephant in the room. Graphics. GO TO OPTIONS AND TURN OFF DLSS. For unknown reasons it will lag your game to rage quitting levels of FPS if you leave DLSS turned on, so turn it off. It doesn't care how powerful your graphics card is. The base game in it self is fun and all but the brilliant part of it is the available mods and its community workshop that adds soo much more gameplay, longevity and life to this game. I dare say modding your game a few miss...

It is clear that PGI is learning. Each time I return to the series, many prior issues have been resolved or improved. I felt Clans built on the earlier installment in nearly every respect, applying lessons learned while making further improvements. For me, the tactical aspects remain the most engaging element, and Clans advanced these as well. Larger maps, easier lance management, better opportunities for crossfire, and improved angles for selecting engagements all contributed to a stronger experience. While not every mission made these changes relevant, enough did that I took note. In this installment the system is less refined, but still workable. PGI’s ongoing support, aimed at combining the strengths of this game and Clans in the upcoming expansion, is promising. I hope the next step will be a hybrid grand-strategy system spanning all factions. Ideally, this would merge the current gameplay with the ability to resolve battles automatically or fight them directly, much like Tota...

It's a very fun, shooter version of BattleTech. Lots of changes from the tabletop but overall the changes are for the best. If your expecting a Armored Core game, this isn't that, it's more slow paced because BattleMechs just aren't that fast, but there are some small, nimble Mechs in the game that can be a lot of fun to strafe and flank with while the rest of the group pounds the enemy.

MW3 was probably the first game I ever played, MW4/Mercs after that. I waited too long for this game, probably 100+ hrs between Steam & Epic (because epic didn't have cloud saves). I've loved every second.

Critical Mess Review I started playing MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries after I learned it was actually part of the larger BattleTech universe. Something I’d only recently gotten into after seeing it in person at the 2024 PAX Unplugged live show “Black Remnant” for MechWarrior Destiny and Alpha Strike. That event lit a fire in me to explore the franchise. At first, I wasn’t sure which game to dive into. I spent weeks debating between MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries and MechWarrior 5: Clans, weighing the pros and cons. After chatting with fans at my FLGS and doing plenty of research, I realized I wanted a sandbox more than a linear, story-driven experience. Honestly, I just wanted to pilot some big stompy robots, dang it! And between us, the Clans have always felt a little icky anyway. Before I hit “purchase,” my partner suggested I try it on Xbox Game Pass since it was free the...

Mech piloting feels amazing, light mechs are nimble, and the heavier mechs feel like you're piloting an 80 ton tank. Missions can get a bit repetitive at times, but with some of the DLCs adding missions helps with this issue. Each weapon feels relatively balanced for its own niche too!

I had high hopes for MW but Piranha Games does the bare minimum with the Mechwarrior license. They in no way elevate the franchise. This was not made by fans of MW it was made by "its good enough" people. These games should be jaw dropping, instead its a mild upgrade over MWO. (13 year old game). Multi-player that has to use mods in order to make it viable. PGI wants to prey on your nostalgia and take your money, not make the definitive Mechwarrior experience. If you are a fan of the MW games, this is a $30 game at best with DLC included.

Somehow this is worse than 4, which was released 25 years ago. The interface is trash and lacks basic information when configuring mechs. The in-game conversation animations are worse than what is seen in Half Life 2, which is 21 years old. The gameplay is lame. All enemies target the player and ignore the lance mates. I gave it a try and regret buying it.

Love the Mechwarrior games and this one really really brings me back to Mechwarrior 2. Smooth gameplay and the story/details of mechs factions and planets is right on par with the books and previous games. LOVE IT!! More of this please!
