Airhead was a game that suprised me in many ways but unfortunately most of all in how underrated this game is. At the time of writing this review the game has only 40 reviews, apparantly not enough to generate a % score based on my steam review settings (probably something to do with language). Regardless, this fact is such a bloody shame as airhead does everything right to deserve succes. From the expertly crafted puzzles to the excellent level design and gorgeous visuals the game just fires on all cylinders which makes it all the more tragic that it is so underrated. I hope to contribute with this review and maybe convince you, possible buyer, that you're missing out not playing this. Allow me to divulge what makes airhead so great in what follows below. The thing airhead does best is what is pretty much also the most important thing in a puzzle game, namely the puzzles themselves. Their central mechanic of having a detachable head allowed them to make a huge variety of puzzles wher...

About the Game
Airhead is an adventure through a sprawling interconnected world, where you must explore, evolve and overcome intricate puzzles to succeed.
You play as Body, a small creature who meets a round, inflated organism and uses it as a head. And while Head is slowly but surely deflating, you have a chance to save its life.
To do so, you need to use air cylinders to keep Head inflated while you explore Airhead’s interconnected world and learn about its secrets.
On your adventure, it will be up to you to uncover the true connection between Head, the air cylinders, and the technology that litters the world so that you can save Head no matter the cost.

Finding your way through Airhead's world is not always easy. You must brave dark caverns, ancient structures, and other mysterious locations in order to save Head.
Along the way, you will find new abilities, and uncover new areas and puzzles, and if you go even farther afield, who knows what hidden truths you may stumble upon?

As you explore, you will encounter numerous puzzles involving the environment, strange creatures, and old technology to challenge your logic and creativity.
Everything is there for a reason and can be overcome by piecing together the puzzle and understanding the rules of Airhead's strange world.

Body and Head must work together to accomplish their goal, and as time passes, their bond and abilities will grow. What will you do to preserve their companionship?

Well, this game has made me realize that my time with 2D puzzle platformers has definitely come to a complete end. I just find them way too boring nowadays. I'm also seeing that the puzzle design and the metroidvania design have simply not meshed well. I commend the devs for their bravery in making something truly original but the thing about risks is that something they won't pan out. Still, I think people interested in a puzzle platformer are going to enjoy this so I'll recommend it for them. Unfortunately, I am not one of those and will have to refund.
I'm on a verge with this one. There's so many things done bad in this game but a the same time there are great things too. I'll go with the positive because I would love to see another game from those people to see if they can improve and deliver a true masterpiece. To sum up my experience - I softlocked in the middle of the game because the solution to one puzzle was a blocker for another. I had so much fun with the puzzles it didn't deter me from starting a new game and finishing it but with a heart on my shoulder whenever I did something that didn't feel "by design". A few things that will be useful (no spoilers): - Game has backup saves (accessed from Load section) but considering how the save system works, do manual backups from time to time. - You can continue playing after the ending so don't worry If you want to find everything. - Works nicely on Steam Deck (although eats battery a bit faster than I would expect) - I would finish game in 7-8h if not for a softlock
One of the most unique and cerebral exploration/-vania style games I've played. A few technical issues - hanging on loads a few times, fell through the world once, etc. - but definitely worth soldiering through.
2d platformer where you have to carry around a living balloon that dies if you walk too long
Not for me because I don't enjoy the constant running out of air mechanic (timer). Seems well put together though.
This is a sweet puzzle platformer with great atmosphere and cool visuals. I enjoyed my time with it. Some of the puzzles can be a bit hard to get in the right mindset for, but when it clicks, it feels really good. Definitely recommend it for people who are used to the genre, though. It's not easy all the time, and I wish some things were more visuals, like several vines I didn't realise I could climb. Other than that, not bad at all.
