At almost 400 hours in, i think i should give a review. The game is extremely charming and has a lot to offer, I love the base building, creature collecting, and the world is gorgeous with beautiful views and lots of places to find and explore. I love this game, but it's not without its issues. The game could have better onboarding to help the player get started, right now the current method is a series of owl totems with tips that give you hints, I actually blew past a bunch of them and didn't find them again until they were no longer relevant. Having an npc give a series of simple quests to get the player started would probably help. A lot of things in this game are pretty unclear, with poor descriptions. Things like the Intelligence stat are listed as "affects crafting" with no further explanation, creature leveling makes no sense, things that are level 1 can be stronger than things that are level 70 and it seems like the levels don't actually matter as much as just creature typ...

Very enjoyable in group: I had so much fun with my daughters to play this together.
I was worried it might be too similar to Grounded (The game which I chose to play first), however this game is a whole different world. Sure you are very small scaled and you fight insects that appear gigantic, but the mechanics of the gameplay are a different set of challenges. Its very fun to figure out how the game works, but very tedious at other times... [Coming from the game grounded I thought I could jump from a branch to the leaf... but I fell right on through and fell to my death... Tried to swim in water but my health went down crazy fast. Used my glider wings for the first time instantly died from 1 a centimeter fall.] Games got some issues but there are many options avaliable to allow you to enjoy the game at your own pace. The multiplayer features are really amazing. You can join different servers with your character or import your tree base into another players world and play with them. Mounts are really neat in this game! There are all sorts of pets you can get. I e...
This'll be an odd review, but I'm just going to post what I told my brother after playing ~17 hours. Everything after this is a quote. Alright so I've checked out Smalland fairly decent for an initial push. You're small folk, you can level up and apply attribute points (basic), Intelligence affects what you can craft so it's a priority as is doing quests. It has a base/home system that is fun to engage with. You can build anywhere but if you claim one of the (at least 10) great trees then anything built within it's AoE can be relocated to any other unclaimed tree, so your base can be more mobile the fewer players there are (you can play solo offline, you can also play online multiplayer on dedicated or non-dedicated servers). Additionally you can obtain an upgrade fairly early that grants you the ability to glide so the great trees become launching platforms to get around ArcheAge style. There are also Egg/Incubation as well as Taming mechanics. When you kill critters they ...
This game is the definition of a plastic golden star that reads "you tried" The idea when the game was released, back when it was early access, was interesting. It was a survival game with tiny fairy people and it was promising, nothing incredibly different from other survival games but with its own charm. And if the game was still on early access, I'd probably be giving this review a thumbs up instead. But they rushed the 1.0 and it still feels like a half baked game. It has some fun and pretty things and the ideas were nice, but for example, for some reason they decided to change how crafting works entirely after releasing the 1.0, and then they reworked taming so it works completely in a different way, and then they added a whole new area that you'd think helps deepen the lore but whoops, the tutorial and the main quests are also reworked so for some reason now you have to redo a bunch of stuff to get a remote idea of where to go next. And then you do a convoluted weird quest in ...
A fun game! At times it gives me "Fern Gully" vibes. It is fun finding eggs and hatching them so you can have your own bug army! Or just destroy your enemies with a bird and a scorpion. Both work. It is a fun game alone or with friends! The music heading into storms can get quite loud so you will want to watch your volume. And some of the event enemies can be very over whelming. The thing that takes the most time is farming resources. Which you need to do to progress. It can be quite fun, but as you get towards end game, it can at times feel tedious. Overall a fun game, with good sound effects, world building, mechanics, and story! Hopefully we get to explore this world more in the future! 8.5/10
If Grounded is unofficial Honey I Shrunk The Kids game then Smalland is unofficial Fern Gully game. A lot of reviews complaining about movement or combat, but I don't have a problem with either. Game looks and runs great on my potato. Also several reviews complaining about nuances in the game that can be turned on/off or scaled in settings. I suggest picking this up on sale if you enjoy crafting/survival games.
It's not bad, 6.5/10 at worst. they could use some additions like more character customization, QoL improvements, and some combat improvements as well as something to remove enemies from clipping.
I really want to rate this game higher, It's beautiful and I love the concept. But it's just too clunky. Died 5 times before I even managed to find the elder, due to getting randomly moved to the side, off a cliff, into water, to my death.
Even with the PATHETIC excuse of an update YEARS after release it is BY FAR less superior to Grounded or even Grounded 2.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR CASH.... this game is beyond out dated and boring -even with new update combat is so clunky and stiff -wing movement is not fluent or smooth either... it's as if a rock is trying to fly with tiny twigs holding it up -graphics are rugged and outdated -NO CONTENT.... seriously there is nothing to really do... you beat the sad excuse of a story in a couple hours if not less -Everything unlocks pretty fast and easily this is NOTHING compared to the expansive and challenging Grounded go get Grounded.. it has better story, more content, better smoother graphics, rewarding features when you unlock things, and above all.... more support. Hell Grounded even has a sequel after a VERY successful first game. You can literally spend more time in Grounded and fill more fulfilled then you would if you wasted ANY time or cash on this game..
