If you liked the first two games in the reboot trilogy, you’ll probably enjoy Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking. It looks amazing, the tombs and puzzles are fun (though a bit too easy), and the focus is more on exploration and stealth than action. Combat takes a backseat, which makes a lot of the upgrade system feel kind of pointless unless you're playing on higher difficulty. You’ll be doing a ton of climbing and swimming, maybe a bit too much, and the game starts to feel repetitive after a while. The pacing dips in the middle, though it picks up again later. The story is okay, nothing mind-blowing, but there are some great moments, especially with Lara’s character. It’s a darker game, with some creepy scenes and a cool atmosphere, but overall it plays things too safe for a trilogy finale. Even with all its flaws, it’s still a good game and a solid ending to the trilogy.
Probably the best of this trilogy. I ignore the story and drama/plot aspects - Lara comes across as a narcissistic psychopath, setting off the end of the world, believing she's the only one who can then stop it, killing dozens and dozens of henchmen in the most horrific ways imaginable, becoming all tearful and weak at random moments only to suddenly become refocused and start murdering again... But, the stealthy combat is good, some very satisfying booms, good puzzle tombs, and a nice balance of gathering and crafting stuff.
Completion and Game Breakers Make two parallel backup saves and alternate between them- the game will sometimes rob you of completion, glitching out a character and not counting a document or sidequest. This is especially common in three places: A sidequest right after you find a lost city (it's the dice one below, save before starting it), a combat-heavy zone in an oilfield, and a late game visit to a library. In particular, if a character is invisible during a cutscene, it's time to reload. Another common breakage point is when you have to use a rotating winch on a puzzle- the winch will just not work. Again, have a backup saved in advance. Some users report this gets fixed by turning DX12 on or off. Unlike previous games, Shadow of the Tomb Raider has new game plus. It ports over your skills, upgrades and inventory, but not collectibles or exploration. This may still be worth it. Bear in mind that the top difficulty removes checkpoints, your survivor instinct ability, and most of t...
Mixed opinions on the game. Though this might be an unpopular opinion, I thought the first game out of the three was the best in terms of story and the second was the best in terms of mechanics. Overall, it's exactly what you would expect out of a Tomb Raider game. If you've liked the previous games, chances are you'll be content with playing this one too. The best addition to the game is clearly the OPTION to view an artifact/a document. I can stay in the gameplay without being suddenly dragged out of it in the middle of the action, amazing! Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan of the underwater sections. It felt flat and pointless most of the time. Sorry... I wasn't too happy about getting forcibly stuck to a wall when walking during a stealth section either. Not sure if this is a skill issue on my part though, so take this with a grain of salt. The game is quite buggy. If you happen to have the same issues, here are my fixes that I scraped from online forums: 1. Glitches: If y...
The weakest of the three modern Tomb Raider games. I wish it could've been better, but it's good enough if you want to just wrap up the trilogy. If this is your first one, you'll probably find it fun.
This might not be my favorite Tomb Raider game, but damn, it was fun.
Mid. The graphics are amazing compared to the previous games, but that's the only improvement. Most of the mechanics feels recycled from Rise of the Tomb Raider, and while the parkour is decent, the combat feels dull. You don't even feel like you're shooting. The story is not THAT bad, but it is pretty boring. There are WAY too many cutscenes, and the characters aren't really fleshed out. Some parts of the game feel like a chore (mostly the puzzles). I give it a 6/10, as the previous games are definitely better.
so boring, i was forcing myself to play this game hoping it would get good but it never got good, so many annoying puzzels, always had to use a walkthrough, most overrated game of all time
This game is surely missing some much needed features like a manual flashlight/torch, a button to toggle walk; but this is the best looking game in the survivor trilogy, so some of the minor flaws can be ignored.
