Cthulhu is love and peace, but as far as remasters go this has to be on the bottom end of 'em. Pros:

City is now even more atmospheric thanks to visual overhaul.
4K textures and FSR/DLSS/TSR support.
Slightly better controls and less clunky combat.
Cons:

Improved visuals are due UE5 and that's a doodoo engine with skidmark smears.
The city still too big, atmospheric yet soulless because non-story NPCs don't matter.
No trading, no bartering, no reason to explore the big city as there's no lore and the sole loot in game is mostly just crafting mats.
The infested zones see you use more resources that you gain if you fight.
Non-key evidence is sometimes hidden in onerous places, forcing PC to be at the exact spot and camera angle to see/get them.
Interact prompt distance for actual key items is at toddler's arm length when dime a dozen crafting mats shine from distance.
Insults:

Disappointing ...

The Sinking City Remastered is a moody, atmospheric revival of Frogwares’ ambitious Lovecraftian detective game, delivering both visual and technical improvements that reframe the entire experience in a more modern light. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the remastered edition doesn’t simply upscale textures or improve resolution—it completely overhauls the aesthetic quality of Oakmont, the game’s decaying, rain-soaked city at the heart of its cosmic horror narrative. Buildings rot with more texture, alleyways drip with more menace, and shadows dance eerily under ray-traced lighting. These enhancements create a significantly more immersive environment where every corner feels oppressive and alive with mystery, amplifying the emotional weight and dread that defines the game’s tone. The improvements go far beyond the surface. Frogwares has taken the opportunity to polish many of the technical shortcomings that plagued the original release. The addition of DLSS, FSR, and TSR upscaling...

"Fatal crash." Over and over again. I was really into this but can't play it despite exceeding recommended specs. Buyer beware.

I oddly became addicted to this game, and lately that's become a little hard with most games today.

I haven't done many Steam reviews, but overall, this game is one of my favorites. I've finished four times now - twice on PS4, twice on PC (once for the remastered.) It has some novel ideas for game play, and some really compelling mechanics to the game that make the player slow down and think about what they're doing. It's replay value kind of sucks - admittedly - especially because you know what's going on, but even still, I find myself replaying this one every so often. I really like the story, really like the game play, and just ... enjoy the atmosphere. Enough that yes, I backed the sequel. Definitely worth the price, especially considering that it's going to the devs, now.

The water gives, and the water takes. The city of Oakmont is sinking, and only Charles Reed can save the city. But first, he needs to save himself, as he has his problems, mainly his visions. But maybe they are a blessing in disguise, as you will be using Reed's psychic abilities to solve cases and navigate your way through the Oakmont society. Amazing game from a relatively small developer, The Sinking City builds into Frogwares' detective mechanic that they also utilize in their Sherlock Holmes series. They are also in the same, Lovecraftian universe, so there is a consistent world-building, which is soaked in a constant feeling of dread (that I personally love). The monster designs are really cool, however the combat (which, combined with crafting, differentiates this game from the SH games of the developer) is a bit wonky and needs getting used to. But it's honestly fine, as this is a detective game first and foremost. The detective work and puzzle solving also need getting used...

Immersive world. Nice visuals. Pleasant balance between shooting and thinking/puzzle elements. Generally impressed how grim and unusual the city looks. Underwater sections are something really out of this world.

I'm going to keep this short and to the point, terrible controls, way too hard way way way too hard which sucks any fun out of the detective elements of the game which are the best part. refunded because i can't even enjoy this impossible game
