DISTRAINT 2

It was...beautiful, I hope whoever plays this, finds hope...

Distraint 2 is a direct, organic continuation of the first game. It has the same protagonist and expands the plot of the previous title further. Due to this, I strongly recommend buying and playing both games back to back, one after another. You will understand the plot better and feel more nuances. Once again we are dealing with 2D, pixel art psychological thriller. While the previous game was all about guilt and selling souls to greed, this one is all about redemption and healing, about overcoming trauma. This time all events are in “le head” of the main character and all NPC but few are more or less symbolic representations of psychological aspects of our consciousness. They even have pretty straightforward names, like Reason, Loss, Agony, etc… The journey in Distraint 2 is a journey to inner self, more about introspection than in the first game. We deal with the consequences of our actions and the mental toll our past decisions and events bring to us. The gameplay is also ...

As I mentioned in my Distraint review, I consider each part to be half of a complete game. The two-game bundle is cheap enough that that doesn't matter, though. Buy them and play them both in order. The second half is more gentle than the first, but still unsettling, and it is a direct continuation of the first game. I can't say much more than that without potential spoilers, so just do yourself a favor and buy them both. I compared the first one to The Cat Lady and the Silent Hill games, but would put part 2 firmly in SH2 territory in the sense that it punches you right in the feels. After putting nearly 5 hours into the two games, I looked up the dev on Steam and bought everything else he's published. I've never done that before, and if that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is.

This game brought me to tears. Loss is such a heavy topic to deal, and this game did it justice. I thought I had already processed my own loss, but it turns out—NAH. I realized I was acting just like the lost Price, and that hit me hard. I cried like a child when it sank in. Thank you for this game. It was a difficult, but deeply needed journey. 10/10

After beating the first game and loving it, i was convinced there was no way a sequel could work. I was very very wrong. This was more emotional. more beautiful and more important than the first game in so many ways(although both will now be in my rotation of replays for a long time to come). I cannot recommend this(and of course the first game aswell) any more highly 10/10
