About the Game

Breathedge is an ironic outer space survival adventure game. Take on the role of a simple guy called the Man who is just carrying his grandpa's ashes to a galactic funeral and suddenly finds himself in the middle of a universal conspiracy.

Welcome to Space

A massive space hearse suffers a wreck in the deep space, leaving the area filled with debris, coffins, dead passengers and yourself. Survive in this interstellar dump, uncover a global conspiracy, save the princess and don’t break your fingers while tapping the keyboard as you travel around the world (keeping your display on for full immersion is advised).

Try to stay alive

Space isn’t a joke (despite us trying to prove otherwise) and not dying is a challenge. Lose your progress in spectacular ways, including but not limited to suffocation, freezing, incineration, electrocution, depression, blunt trauma, and more.

Litter space with garbage you created

It took a long time for our ancestors to develop because they had no electrical tape. You have it and you know how to use it. With this magical artifact, you can create a vast variety of useless objects and throw them out of the airlock! There are also many useful items to be created, but be careful as this may result in completing the game.

Fix and Decorate

When all your neighbors just hover around in vacuum doing nothing but playing dead, various tools and gears will help you become the worst noisy neighbor ever. Create a unique space station, provide it with oxygen and electricity, install all kinds of equipment from solar panels to a hamster farm, and turn it into a real bachelor pad by stuffing it with furniture mixed with all kinds of junk.

Honk! Honk!

Yes, you heard that right, it’s your own private car horn! Besides that, you can assemble a small rocket, ride the dead or build a large space shuttle. Transportation helps you move faster, evade obstacles and see the death screen after a head-on collision.

Breathedge or as I like to call it, Breath-edge-of-my-patience—starts off as a hilarious space romp with plenty of charm. But somewhere along the way, it crosses the event horizon into Repetitive Resource Management Simulator 3000™. Once you're knee-deep in crafting, refilling, repairing, and babysitting every oxygen tank and space doodad, the fun kind of floats away... like your will to keep playing. And don’t get me started on the jokes—they start off cheeky but eventually feel like they're being beamed in from a dad joke black hole. I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. I wanted to explore space, not spend hours joyriding in a space Roomba while listening to a sentient chicken roast me for the 100th time.

The game starts out fine. It's a pretty standard survival open world crafting game. It sets itself apart by having a very funny opening credits and a solid framing device. You are telling your story about how you survived a space crash. I had a lot of fun with this game. I got extremely frustrated because the game expects you to be 1000% prepared every time you go out or you end up doing A LOT of backtracking. But even with that annoyance the first 2/3rds of the game is a pretty solid good time. Mostly just funny silliness with little hints of story mystery sprinkled in. Then you get to the final 3rd of the game. At this point the entire game changes completely. I won't spoil stuff should you still decide to play and want to experience it yourself but the long and short is that resources now barely matter and you do a lot of walking in corridors. The story keeps going but it doesn't really manage to be interesting at all. My final thoughts is that I hit a point just shortly before I...

Game can’t take itself seriously for even 1 minute. The cringey writing undercuts any sense of tension. It’s just generally unintuitive also. I followed the games directions and made the “some CRAP imposed by the developers” which is what its called. It is indeed junk and no further direction. Even with the Condom air upgrade im unable to progress far away fro the ship and honestly the game isn't interesting enough for me to persist.

Worst thing about breathenge - it tries to be funny too hard. Sometimes it succeeds but most of the time it's that brand of mean 90s humor I really though we left far behind. At first it's just eh, but after meeting yet another "haha there's a man in woman's clothing / makeup, what a freak lol!" or "this person died like a complete idiot!" I just started dying of secondhand embarassement and dreading new commentaries. And they kept on coming endlessly... Otherwise it's just a mediocre Subnautica descendant with some weird gameplay desicions and exploration hindered by lack of beautiful landscapes to discover and missing sense of mystery. Worth it on a significant discount and if you're able to tolerate adolescent cringy humor.

When other reviews talked about how bad the humour was, I thought they were just over reacting. But no, Its just unending poop and sex jokes from the beginning. Could have been a fun game without the south park-esque humour shoved in your face at every turn

Had fun for a couple of hours, then the game becomes tedious. The humor and meta things were alright for the most part, reminded me of that Deadpool game.

Breathedge gets a solid recommend from me, but with the caveat that it's definitely not for everyone. In most survival crafters, you start with basic tools a workbench (or make them out of sticks and rocks) and scavenge for supplies while maintaining your food/hunger/whatever meters and grinding your way through the tech tiers. In Breathedge, you start with a workbench in the back corner of the map and a 20 second air supply with which to make horrible, painfully slow trips out for water and materials. It is tense, and quickly becomes frustrating. This is not an accident. The feeling of always being able to see your next goal, but not being able to make it there, is the driving force for the first half of the game. You can't get there not because you need a golden axe or a high-tech scanner, but because your oxygen will run out and you move too slow. Tool/tech progression does play into the first half of the game, sure, but it's mostly about increasing your speed or extending your time...
Dark Humor Meets Space Survival
Breathedge surprised me with how much personality it has. On the surface it looks like a survival game in space, gathering resources, crafting tools, trying not to run out of oxygen, but the writing and humor give it a completely different vibe. It’s dark, sarcastic, and sometimes absurd, and I found myself laughing at the most random, unexpected moments. Even when things got grim, the game always had a joke waiting to lighten it up. The world itself is fun to explore. You start drifting among wreckage and frozen corpses, and before you know it you’re building gadgets, upgrading your gear, and pushing deeper into the unknown. Every time I thought I’d seen everything, something new or bizarre would happen: a strange side event, a ridiculous cutscene, or some weird item that made me stop and go, “Wait, what?” It really nails that mix of danger and curiosity that keeps you wanting to see what’s next. Crafting and upgrades feel reward...
