About This Game

Baba Is You is an award-winning puzzle game where you can change the rules by which you play. In every level, the rules themselves are present as blocks you can interact with; by manipulating them, you can change how the level works and cause surprising, unexpected interactions! With some simple block-pushing you can turn yourself into a rock, turn patches of grass into dangerously hot obstacles, and even change the goal you need to reach to something entirely different.

The game has over 200 levels that experiment with the game's mechanics in a multitude of ways, requiring the player to understand and manipulate the rules of the game and figure out devious ways to make the objects in the game world interact.

The game was originally created for and won the Nordic Game Jam 2017. Baba Is You also won the Excellence in Design and Best Student Game awards in the Independent Games Festival 2018, and was nominated a finalist in 2 other categories, including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize. The game was made using Multimedia Fusion 2 by Clickteam.

Far and away the best puzzle game I've ever played. After just a few minutes of playing, my speech is ruined, and I go around talking in mad 3 word sentences

I'll join the unfortunately limited chorus of negative review on this one; because there does need to be some more honesty about this games' flaws. First, to cover what other negative reviews say: * I have to agree that puzzles are very narrow, with only a limited number of ways to solve them. * on the other hand, I do NOT agree that there is an issue with mechanics being too obtuse or poorly explained - part of the concept includes experimenting with combinations of words to see what happens. Neither of the above is the root of what makes the game so damn frustrating, however. The real issue is that most of the time the game isn't about the rules & logic aspect, but rather stupid fiddly positioning challenges of pushing things around just-so. For example - 1 of the current levels I'm stuck on requires pushing an object A over to an object B to unlock the win condition. Object A is also affected by gravity, & if I let it fall too far I simply can't recover it. I have down pat h...

Why is this so hard? It's just some weird rat-guy pushing blocks around. It's making my brain hurt.

I love how the puzzles don't necessarily get monstrously big or complex as you progress into late game; instead they challenge implicit assumptions you've formed over time and make you continually think outside the box. One of the best puzzlers I've ever played.

By far the best puzzle game I have ever played. The concept of the game is completely unique and executed flawlessly. And to top it off, the game is packed full of content. Every level is a treat, the mechanics are easy to learn and understand, but are oozing with depth and unique interactions. With hundreds of hand-crafted, official levels that will have you thinking for hours and a fully functional level editor, this game is 100% worth the asking price. Whether you love puzzle games, or have never played one before, you MUST try this game.

This review is based primarily on the base game, and not the mods or the new adventure pack which I'm positive I'll play sometime down the line. Learning is something I consider beautiful. A seemingly simple idea can expand into countless complex ideas, and seeing it happen slowly over time is something beautiful. However, the things that we learn have been found only after centuries and millenia, and with how many things there are in the world, you simply cannot learn everything that has been discovered. Instead of exploring the world you already know, how about an entirely new world, much more simplified, yet still as complex as you want it to be? This game revels in you learning its' mechanics. There are very few written tutorials, as you are often left to your own to figure out how it works. It does typically lead you in the right direction, but occasionally there's moments that may feel a bit unfair for some. The farther you go along, the more you realise the truth of the w...
