Good fun. Has potential but can't recommend until that is realised. Namely (in order of importance): 1. The ability to export standalone executable games. 2. The ability to customise all assets within the app. I would recommend if #1 was implemented.

This tool, even though it simplifies and streamlines the process of making a platformer, is extremely barebones and really needs some work for me to recommend it... Bear with me a little here: I bought this game motivated by the trailers and it didn't live up to my expectations at all, it needs a lot more polish, specially in the mechanics you are allowed to introduce to the game. My main problem is that in the trailers it showed you can import Mario, Sonic and even Wonderboy assets, even though you can't melee hit enemies with a sword, or even jump on top of their heads to kill them (you must use an ingame potion to be able to do this...), so you're restricted to using a selection of simple projectiles as your basic means of attack. It has other problems, most notably the sound (simple 8-bit SFX and chiptunes is all you get, and it gets old quick) and HUD, which is disorganized and not very visually pleasing to be honest. If a tool that advertises itself as a "make your own game ...
I'm sorry, but I just don't like this game. And it's not because you can't export the games. First of all, the way the player controls just feels... bad. The jumping is way too fast and too high. Plus, there's no indication of what features a certain level has. Like double jumping for example. The game kinda feels like it's stuck between two identities. One wants to be an easy to use, premade assets, level editor. While the other wants to be a serious customizable game creator. This isn't mentioning how cheap the game feels. The menus are very bare bones and look like default unity assets. Now, all of this wouldn't be that much of an issue if it wasn't for the price. 20 dollars is way, way. way too high for this game. And, personally, I would rather spend it elsewhere. If you like the game, power to you. Kind of jealous actually. But with it's current state, I just can't recommend it.
I really enjoyed how easy it is to get your ideas on the screen in a matter of minutes. I'm primarily an pixel artist, I'm not a programmer by any means. So I need a program that does the heavy program lifting for me. That being said, I really miss a export feature. I want to create MY game, with own menus, logos and so on. As it stands now, I'm confined to the Platago ecosystem. I would gladly pay extra for at export feature. PRO: ease of use Con: No export capability
This game is amazing. Really, I hesitate to call it a "game" because it's more like a set of tools ot build your own game, or to play games made by others. And unlike certain other "Makers" out there - you really can make entire games - with multiple connected levels and even a map screen. There are tons of fine-tooth controls, from setting the jump height, to how enemies are killed, to how to finish the level. And you can import your own sprites and background to truly make it your own game. Of course, most of the stuff on the Workshop is people making skins to mimick other existing games - but it can be your own IP if you want. It's not as intuitive as Super Mario Maker, but it's got a lot more power. Not nearly as many enemy choices - but it makes up for that in how much you can roll your own physics. It's far from perfect, but it's in early access still, and the devs are hard at work. And they've made there own high quality platformers in the past, and I have no doubts thi...
dead game. devs forgot it exists
TLDR: Incredible game, amazing developer and support. If you love creating levels, such as in Mario Maker, you'll love this game. It has so many tools and customization options to choose from- you can insert your own sprites (currently need to make them in an outside program), can use sprites other users have shared, change the gravity, adjust friction/jump power/jumping capabilities, set timers for obstacles, etc. While the game currently could use a little polish (it's in alpha testing, so you have to keep that in mind), the features really make this a gem at an incredible price that any level creator has to have. Currently, the game does not support creating .exe files. While I'm perfectly fine with this, it may be important to some users. If you're looking for a cool game like Mario Maker (but better!), this is for you. If you are looking for game design software to publish something, look for something under the "software" category in steam. While there may be some minor bugs (...
Great game, responsive developer who releases updates constantly (sometimes several updates a day even!) It really shows that this game is not some Mario Maker rip-off (*cough* Box Maker *cough*), but instead something that comes from the place of love, a passion project. Yes, I had some issues, however the speed with what the developer is releasing fixes and feature updates means that (unless the issue wasn't reported properly, by Bugs forum), means that any bug, even serious ones such as level corruption (fixed now!) doesn't stay in the game for long. I'm totally happy with the product and if you want something like Mario Maker that's really great, you need to get this gem.
extremely clunky in terms of FPS and character animations, feels like a unfinished game you'd play if you were a beta tester for a very early version of such moral of the story: don't play this game on a high end pc, it was designed for toasters and it becomes super clunky if you use a powerful computer, the fps will become unstable at times and sprite animations go EXTREMELY fast
I have purchase PlataGo! recently and I am really happy about what it has to offer. Its an early access game / engine so I am aware that they are still bugs and even some basic things to add. However I value a few things in this early state: - Responsive developer, the software is often updated and the dev is on the forums help and answering questions - There is a lot of stuff added already. There are a very large number of possible elements to add to your platforming game for which you can customize many parameters. This, together with the different graphics packs (you can add your own or download more from the workshop) ensures that you can make your game unique - Its cheap. 5 euro its a good deal for what it offers in my opinion. For me is an introduction to game design (i love platforming games), obviously if I plan to build a big project of a commercial game in the future this is not the engine to use, but its really good for what it is, it allows you to play with your game des...
