About This Game

Growing up, I spent most of my summers indoors playing video games, trying to beat that one final level, trying to get just a bit better and beat my own high score. Roguebreaker is my love letter to that time of my life, when you could just lose yourself in a colorful world for a little bit. Beat a level, unlock a new upgrade, and repeat. It's a small, simple game designed to be played in a short sitting, just long enough to zone out and have a good time for a few minutes and relax. I hope you're able to feel a little bit of that as you play. If not, I'd be happy to hear why and what I could do to make it that much better for you.

Thanks so much for giving it a shot!

 • Break enough bricks and you make a choice between two upgrades. Beat 10 levels and you've got a totally different set of upgrades compared than the last run.

 • Each level is randomly chosen from a preset pool, so you have a general understanding of what's next, but you can't be sure.

 • The higher your score, the faster the ball. The more balls you get the more fun you have. It's simple.

 • Restarting a run means totally different handcrafted levels and a unique set of choices to make.

 • Break bricks like nobody's business. Hearty bricks, moving bricks, pickup bricks, innocent bricks, it's got bricks for days.

 • It's got all the pickups you can imagine. Multiballs, extra speed, extra score, extra style, extra fun. Too much fun though and things get hard, be careful.

 • After you beat a level, you choose an upgrade, go slowmo, suck the ball back to the paddle, fire missiles, tilt the board and bounce the ball, it's great. If you game over though, you start from scratch.

 • The more you play, the more you unlock, the more you understand, the better you play.

 • After mastering all 20+ of my handcrafted levels you can start adding your own. Just create a map and drag it into the custom maps folder and you're good to go.

 • Trailer music was generously provided by Dance With The Dead

 • Official workshop support is in progress, but can create and share levels without it!

 • Please don't hesitate to contact me if you're unhappy, I want to make sure you enjoy the game as much as I did making it!

Straight to the point: This is an Arkanoid-like game on steroids, with crazy powerups, randomly selected levels, multiball, perks, synergies and Steam leaderboards. The higher your score the faster the ball, so get ready for crazy action. Also, you can create your own level and download extra levels from the Workshop. Roguebreaker is a good (and fun) timekiller. Pros: * Fast and furious gameplay * Creative powerups * High replay value * Detailed in-game stats page * Level editor and Steam Workshop support * Global, local and friends leaderboards * Four game modes (three of them are unlockables) * Cumulative perks (you choose one between two perks with every level beaten) Cons: * [strike]The soundtrack is basically one music track playing on loop[/strike] Edit: the dev added more music :)

I like the idea of rogue-like-izing arcanoid & the looks of this vaporware-styled thing, but: 1. it's very low on content (both levels & perks) 2. rebound physics feels strange, not much control over it 3. while sounds volume is extra low, music is high - the game doesn't memorize these settings All-in-all it's an ok small game.

This is a my favourite game for relaxing and taking a break. The art is beautiful, and the gameplay is easy to understand but allows for skilled play. I would highly recommend picking it up.

Although I enjoyed trying this out, there are some key things stopping me from recommending it. The idea is interesting, but the blocks spawn so low that sometimes there's a level where you can just instantly lose, and there's not much you can do. Additionally, you have very little control of the ball, so when there's only one brick left it becomes extremely tedious. I do think it could be a good game, but it needs better execution.

I saw this on r/steamdeals, and decided to give it a try. It's a pretty good game. It looks very pretty, though most of my favourite colours are just different forms of pink, purple, and blue, so I may be biased. It plays like Breakout. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a slight spin on the game you already (hopefully) know. The main difference is that this has upgrades that you can get after each level. They aren't anything too interesting or game-changing, but they're nice to have. You can start with an extra ball, have a bigger paddle, get more points in exchange for having a speedier ball, etc. I just sort of wish the game went past the typical 8 rounds, even if it would mean repeating stages. Speaking of, there's a stage maker. It works, and is simple enough for almost anybody to pick up and use (though I still don't know what the "R" things do). It sounds good. The music may get tiring after a while, though. Overall, it's (as of writing this) on sale for 99 cents, so i...

Had an issue with slowdown effect, but after speaking to dev, they added an option to remove it. Now the game is perfect. fast, and reminds me of growing up playing these type of games. def a must buy for lovers of brick breakers.

Developer helped me figure out some issues with the mouse. Works well with SteamPlay. I'm on Lubuntu 18.10 :D Super responsive to feedback, and I appreciate that :)

Roguebreaker is a neat concept that just isn't fully realized. The upgrades are limited, boring, and just don't change how you play the game in a meaningful way. The power curve is also too slow. Even after spending a reasonable amount of time progressing a run, you only have minor increases in power, paddle size, ball speed etc. Once you experience the first 5-10 minutes of this game, you've experienced everything there is. I was hoping for a meta progression to help build power or playstyle upgrades over multiple sessions. I would also hope for upgrades that actually changes how you play and create interesting strategies and combos. Give the player more micro and macro decisions to make and work on adding variety to the core gameplay loop. The engine and presentation are solid, Roguebreakers just needs a lot more thought and work put into its gameplay and progression. Overall dissapointing.

Got this game because it was cheap and looked fun. Beat it in about 15 mins. Still had fun so I am going back for more. Got it for 3.50 and it is totally worth it. The biggest drawback I've run into is the mouse pointer isn't locked into the window on fullscreen. So sometimes when you are playing you may not realize your pointer is outside the window and your paddles stop moving. Other things I would like to see: More in level power-ups (such as guns on the end of a paddle that lets me shoot at bricks), more levels, and the ability to keep going after 10 levels. I do understand that this game is $4 and it is worth it for that price already so anything after the current iteration would just be a plus. In short: Get this game - it is fun, cheap, and a great way to lose 15 mins playing a game. Edit: I've come back and played some more after a year or so, and the mouse lock problem I was having has been fixed. I SHOULD have pointed out in my original that my monitor set up is one abov...
