About This Game

In Startup Freak you take the role of a budding entrepreneur, and grow your very own software startup from humble beginnings to a multi-million dollar company. Along the way you will have to overcome countless challenges, from building, testing and securing your product, to devising the ideal marketing strategy and securing investment. Through it, you must ask yourself the ultimate question: are you a Startup Freak?

Build a stellar team

Your staff are everything especially in those all-important early years. Hire an awesome team, skilled in technical, design, operational, or sales aspects of your startup.

Build out your product

Create your very own product by researching the market and building bigger and better features that match your users' demands. But building features isn't everything! You must ensure they are tested and bug-free, well secured, and tuned for performance. Features can also be upgraded and enhanced, for example by incorporating responsive design, or adding accessibility.

Plan your infrastructure

Even the best software is worthless without the right hardware to run on. Manage your data centres across the world, by researching better and more powerful servers, and dealing with ever increasing and shifting user traffic to your services.

Find the right sales channels

Not every sales channel is created equal. More importantly, not every sales channel works well for all types of product. It's your job to use data, and a bit of intuition, to figure out the best go-to-market strategy and win against the odds.

Tune your pricing

Pricing software is more art than science. Plan a pricing strategy, test it, and adapt to the market.

On-board investors

Early stage startups are always in dire need of funding. But pitching your venture to a potential investor is no easy feat! Research and understand your would-be investors, put together a convincing slide-deck, and watch them offer you millions for a small share in your company. P.S. don't forget to haggle!

Deck out your office

What startup doesn't want to be the talk of town for its fancy office? Buy all sorts of gadgets and furniture for your office and give your employees yet another reason to stick around.

Make a big exit

Sooner or later, every founder wants to make an exit from their startup and see the fruits of their labours on a check. The number on that check is dependent on every single decision you have made along the way.

At this time, this is a very shallow game with very little nuance. Past 3-4 hours, it is a repetative clicker. Do not spend your money on this game now.

Fun game! Striking a balance of spending money and improving your product will take several failed attempts, much like real life! It's actually quite educational as well; using actual tech startup terminology like sprints. The devs definitely deserve your $10 for this great game! :)

No endless game mode! I expected to have a game with endless game like any tycoon game, but it will end after you sell your company. As this happend after 4 hours for me, i also cannot get a refund since steam support dont read the resonsing or dont care. I feel a bit ripped of now. The game itself is fun for a short period, but repeat itself alot toward the end. There is not much of replayability, although since it is early access this might of course change.

Unfortunately the game is dead and no longer being worked on. It had potential but a long way to go.

Fun and rather simple game, it feels like a clicker game, with fewer things to do. I would say there is about 4-6 hours gameplay, beyond that it's very repetitive. There are 3 goals set for you to reach and it takes around 1-2 hours to do so, after that its just skipping turns and waiting. There are 3 difficulties, I would recommend for you to start on the easy one and then Normal and then the hardest, just to get a small amount of replayability. Overall is it a decent game, just don't expect more than 6 hours gameplay, so if you got the 8-9 euro to waste (spend) i would do so.

good game for the first few hours, but once you unlocked everything the game becomes boring very fast

Feels quite short, and lacks tips about how things work. Some way of extending game duration would be nice like more in-game goals, better servers to upkeep user numbers. But overall it's quite nice!

The game is attractive but it's just lacking any instruction or tutorial or even the feature to hover over icons and maybe a window pop up that gives a brief description of where and what things do would be nice. To make this short I refunded before I went any further because I would rather have the money they end up at the end of this unsatisfied for the lack of depth. I will revisit a year from now and see if anything got better. Thanks for the play though it was confusing but I had some fun for the last hour.

The game has potential but from the 115 minutes I played it I was not impressed with some lack of clarity in how to progress. I had to desperately seek investors despite having put in a good amount of effort into the design of my product and marketing. However, I couldn't find enough users to purchase the product. I fealt that it wasn't worth the effort of trying to learn it either because there isn't enough guides in the game to teach you how best to manage your company. If more effort is put into the game I might try it again in the future but for now I'm going to have to pass.

Finally! A business tycoon game around software which actually properly takes into account making the product. All business tycoon games revolve around a product or service which you actually can improve, look at Transport Fever around transport, look at Planet Coaster around a theme park. But software development business tycoons, be it game dev tycoon, software inc. or mad games tycoon, all revolve only about the overhead business sides except for the occasional meaningless slider which has no clear effect whatsover and could just be random. This game includes the product as a puzzle, which you use to create and improve your product. It is a bit shallow for now but I certainly hope the developer will make it deeper and a bigger part of the game. It makes it possible to do something meaningfull.
