About This Game

Overview / What Is TaleSpire?

TaleSpire is a beautiful way to play pen and paper RPGs online. Bring your stories to life and embark upon campaigns together with your friends, regardless of where you are in the world.

With Talespire, the beauty and physicality of tabletop gaming meet the endless possibilities of a digital world. Here you can collaboratively build your worlds without compromising the handcrafted aesthetic of using traditional miniatures.

As a player, you can take on the mantle of multiple heroes and creatures, manage your stats, and express yourself using the growing emote system. Perform dice rolls directly on the board and interact with your environment — at least, as far as your GM will let you!

As a GM, you can dazzle and thrill your friends by building expansive maps, setting up shots, and controlling immersive soundscapes to bring all your delightful and devious designs to life.

TaleSpire is not tied to a specific game or ruleset. Whether you’re running a one-shot or a sprawling campaign, if it's on a square grid then we have your back. We are now in Early Access, so now is your chance to raise up your sword, rally your friends, and take your next adventure online with us.

Building and play are one

Setting the stage for your story takes no time at all with Talespire, but even if you forget to prep, it can all be added in while you play. Want to destroy a wall to reveal a secret passage? Do it! Want to rain down piles of gold from the heavens? You have the power. At any moment during your adventure, you (or multiple GMs) can jump into building mode and change the world without interrupting anything else. Our persistent online boards can be created at a moment’s notice, and everything is synchronized in real-time as you dice-roll your way to glory.

A slew of tools to help you on your adventures

It’s dangerous to go alone, but luckily we have a bunch of tools that can help, and all are as pleasing as they are useful. Beautiful dice, rulers and area markers, a range of emotes, and special modes for turn-based combat and cinematic sequences are at your disposal.

A growing library of assets

Pick from a plethora of pieces to create your scenes! The current roster stands at 280 miniatures, 2100 tiles and props, and 60 unique audio tracks. Our library is ever-expanding; we produce fresh asset packs every month.

Share your creations

TaleSpire boards are designed to be easily shared, whether with friends or with the wider community on sites like TalesBazaar or TalesTavern. You can copy sections of your boards (slabs) and paste them as text outside of TaleSpire. Simply paste the text back into TaleSpire to summon the slab to your hand.

This tale has only just begun

Being in Early Access we still have plenty of adventures ahead of us. We have an active Discord community, which you can find in the social section, and alongside your feedback we’re looking forward to developing the game’s features. So come, journey with us a while.

Dev progress is so slow and full of empty promises. They focus on the most random and not requested features instead of implementing different colored dices, in-engine character creation tool and even proper notes. C'mon. It seems there are only two devs working on this but it's been over 4 years...

Great VTT for D&D and other tabletop game systems. Plenty of third party support and it merges seamlessly with Hero Forge.

It's not a stand alone tool. You will require supplemental resources like DnD Beyond or Pathfinder 2E. Even so this game is a massive leap forward for online TTRPGs

I hate 2D VTTs which are taking huge amount of time to prepare and make it don't look like sh*t. If you are paying for 2D something you can play in miro or figma jam with the same pace for free (in my party's humble opinion). On the other hand, Talespire takes two hours to setup vibrant live experience for 5 scenes total, from easy to edit community slabs and creatures and it's freaking JOY to build things in Talespire. The tool is still missing some core features, but it's the closest I can get to the "minis on the table" gameplay.

Our party loves it. Our DM put together some great maps for our campaign. New features are added slowly, but it's getting there. It is a huge help to visualize combat, distance, size of spells etc. I especially love how many different mini figures you can add. We tried printing or buying figures when we used to play physical, but that gets expensive really fast. We used this program in combination with DnD Beyond (and also discord if we fully play online). Overall I, as a player, love and I can only recommend it.

I'm a bit conflicted on this. I've been a DM for ten years and primarily have worked with Forge, and I've used other tools such as Dungeon Alchemist and array of other mapping tools. I'd say give this some time to bake a bit further, but it's still EA and it's been kicking about since 2021. I think this tool is a great idea, I truly do, and the tool does have good implementations and features. However, there's many basic features that you'd expect out of a VTT or mapping tool, that just isn't here. Couple it with the fact you'll have to use another tool to facilitate any rule set. Yeah, you can self-calculate everything, but that kind of detracts from having a VTT. The implementation also feels clunky at times, where kind of expected user experience isn't there... For example, you can select a group of tiles, instead of being able to drag and drop that group, I have to cut the group to move it? I also can't delete the grouping by hitting delete, but I have to cut it and then right ...

An incredible tool for any DM that lives far away from his adventuring party. Keeping a remote game going is a major challenge but the immersive tools on Talespire keep people interested.

TaleSpire is absolutely amazing. The learning curve can be a bit steep before you get used to the controls (which can feel a bit clunky at times, I'll admit) but after that the possibilities of what you can build are nearly limitless. While the number of assets is limited (huge, but limited), it allows you to kitbash different assets together. Meaning the only real limit is your own imagination. And if you don't have that there is an insane amount of modal assets and whole maps made by the community that are freely shared online. 10/10, would buy again.

- Not a whole like of props that match the zombie setting I would like. - Props will not intersect and you can't use builder mode as good as you would in some other dnd map creations. - hard time seeing where to put the stuff. - can't rotate vertically. if they fix this in the updates then I'll concider the thumbs up but for now I don't think it's a great product yet.
