Earlier today I was cruising the “pinball” category of the Store Page to see what may have snuck/sneaked/snack past me as of late, and something named “Super High Ball: Pinball Platformer” popped up. Obviously, most Steam games classified as pinball are not even remotely any such thing, but it seemed that taking a peek was harmless enough. The Store Page indicates Super High Ball: Pinball Platformer (SHB:PP) is (du'h) a combination of a platformer and pinball. (Technically, I suppose all pinball might be considered as platformers, so this must be something beyond the typical, I surmised.) Right off the bat it looked more like the sort of pastime I engaged with as a child (a couple decades before PCs) where I made tracks in the dirt or sand to race my toy cars in, or if on a hill, to race marbles down. But the Store Page presented this as something matching my favorite childhood time-waster, yet aided with flippers, pinball enhancements, and the addition of what seemed to esse...

Super Meat Boy X Pinball. Most important part of a nice pinball are the physics, and this game has really nice ones. The controls and the gameplay are polished. The respawns are fast. The music is catchy and impulsive (reminds my of the great Shatter soundtrack). If you have a favor for pinball and platformers, than give this game a chance.
When Pinball meet Super Meat Boy, you get Super High Ball. While the gameplay is fairly simple (3 Buttons, 2 for the flippers, 1 too slow the ball), you quickly understand that you can have the full control of the ball by learning how the physics works. Every death or mistake is your own fault ! And when you succeed to get that perfect path and speed, and send the ball exactly where you wanted, it feels very rewarding. If you're looking for a challenging game, this for you. Obtaining the 3 golden sphere for each level (by finishing the level, finish the level without dying, and then finishing the level under a fixed time) will take you some efforts. And after that ? well the game still have some challenge for you, as every level have a leaderboard, you can compete against all the other players ! At the moment, game is in early access, but finishing all level at 100% took me about 8 hours. But you can see, I played way more than that, because I enjoyed grinding every level to get on...
I never knew I needed a genre fusion of Pinball and Platformer until I played this game. Executed brilliantly, Super High Ball gives the player an amazing sense of control through each level and provides a great challenge (diamond rankings) on top of fun and unique gameplay.
Quick Description: -Super High Ball is a precision platformer mixed w/ a traditional pinball game. I was skeptical about this hybrid going in, but it actually works really well. In order to make this combo work, a few compromises had to be made. If you can overlook these tradeoffs, focus on the gorgeous art design, top notch soundtrack, and innovative gameplay, then I think you will likely have a really fun experience. *Update: -I initially completed all of the A Roll levels before writing my review, and now I have completed all of the B Roll levels. The B Roll Levels are significantly more challenging and creative versions of the original levels, and are the highlight of this game. They are fun, well designed, and will offer the greatest challenge to those seeking it. It took me a little over 15 hrs total to complete both the A and B Roll levels. What's Good: -It's hard not to love the aesthetic. From the opening screen to the final levels, you will be greeted w/ gorgeous, sl...
Controls like butter, excellent level of polish and brilliant arcade music to go with the pinball frenzy.
This game is fantastic. It's definitely not a typical precision platformer and doesn't feel like one, but is more... adventure pinball for speedrunners? Something along those lines. Regardless, it's fantastic. If you like precision games at all, get this--it's worth full price.
Incredibly fun and challenging pinball platformer. Unlike most pinball games, there is the ability to slow yourself down, which gives the player a good degree of control while also keeping the hectic feel pinball is known for. The levels are so fun I find myself getting hooked and going for a good time.
Super High Ball is a unique and charming platforming experience where your movement is controlled by a slowdown mechanic, and the environment around you. You learn to master bumper timings and how to utilise the time slow as you traverse each stage, and every world introduces an interesting new mechanic. Whats more, there are B-Roll levels for each stage, which bump up the difficulty of each level and introduce new mechanics as well. You also have time trial goals to aim for, with diamond times proving to be a fun challenge. Nothing in this game felt too unfair, and I found the learning curve very smooth. Banger controls, banger music, and banger visuals. I definitely suggest you give this game a shot!
Very highly recommended. Creative premise, well-designed levels, some decently tough challenge for those seeking it (B-roll 23 and 25 diamond times are nuts), and a joy to play. An absolute gem of a game.
