The game is genuinely interesting. Beautiful art design and a good story. On the downside, the bosses feel a bit repetitive, and the developers clearly want you to rely on parrying while playing as War — which is quite uncomfortable on the small Steam Deck screen. But honestly, whoever thought adding parkour with an isometric camera was a good idea... that was just dumb. And the person who decided to include an entire Lefiavane parkour trial — you're a real piece of work.

About This Game
From the dawn of creation, THE COUNCIL has maintained the Balance across existence. Carrying out their orders are THE HORSEMEN, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) who have pledged themselves to the Council and been granted immense power. However, this power came at a tragic cost: the Horsemen were ordered to use their newfound strength to wipe out the rest of their kind. What followed was a bloody battle on Eden where the Horsemen, obeying the will of the Council, annihilated the Nephilim.
Still reeling from the events on Eden, WAR and STRIFE have been given a new assignment -- LUCIFER, the enigmatic and deceptive demon king, has been plotting to upset the Balance by granting power to master demons throughout Hell. War and Strife must hunt down these masters, gather information, and ultimately fight their way through a tangled, demonic conspiracy that threatens to forever upset the Balance and unravel all of creation.
DARKSIDERS: GENESIS is an action/adventure game that tears its way through hordes of demons, angels, and everything in-between on its way to Hell and back with guns blazing and swords swinging. Genesis gives players their first look at the world of DARKSIDERS before the events of the original game. Furthermore, it introduces the fourth and last horseman STRIFE, as well as Co-op gameplay for the first time in the history of the franchise.
Features:

- Swap between the powerful swordsman War and Strife instantly in frenetic, single-player gameplay
- Explore the epic world of Darksiders and wreak havoc with a friend in two-player cooperative mode

It's Darksiders's but in isometric. I prefer the 3rd person view, but this is also fresh, and now you have 2 characters to mix up the gameplay. It's alright
A short snappy twin-stick shooter with personality that serves as a good introduction to the Darksiders universe
Darksiders Genesis is my first experience with the series and it is a great start. The story is very linear and simple, but the two main characters bromance carries it when you are not neck deep in the action. I was always aware of the Darksiders series, but couldn't really understand what made it stand appart from diablo lore: Edgy heroes fighting Angels and Demons. After this brief introduction, I feel confident in saying that the lore is interesting and differs from other Christianity based mythos. You play as one of the 4 Knights of the Apocalypse and you try to uphold the balance between the worlds.
Pros:
- Snappy top down combat with executions when ennemies are low health - Likeable main characters (Strife and War) that share a believable bond - Two completely different characters, personality and playstyle wise. Strife is a twin-stick ...
Yeah this one misses the mark. I don't have any issues with it being a different genre from the previous 3 games, it is just not quite as enjoyable on its own merit. The reason I'm writing this review is that I realised I just don't want to play this anymore, and writing an essay is more enjoyable than starting the game.
Combats fun, but the camera angles and the lack of knowing what to do next is so frustrating. The controls are super annoying at times too!
A sublime cooperative hack n slash romp through desolate Hellscapes provides one of the best two-player co-op experiences out there, but comes in the form of a very buggy and unpolished gem.
For the purposes of this review, I would like to make mention that I spent 99% of my playtime of thirty-four hours playing cooperatively with a friend. Some of my impressions and the bugs encountered occurred due to events particular to cooperative. First of all, the iconography, visual design and cutscenes are stellar. Darksiders has always had a timeless artstyle that elevated it well above what was expected of a "AA" game at the time, and this game very much carries that forward. Changing to an isometric camera was the right call for a two player coop experience, and it allows for the whole game world to be richly detailed, gorgeously presented and optimised to perfection. I played completely maxed out, 1440p, hitting a consistent 200fps throughout. The game looks, and feels great...
It isn't bad, it's just not good enough, it will be fun with friend but as a game it is realy unpolished, a bit boring, 6-8 hours expirience. I just think if your game so smal and simple, it at least should work good as fuck, but it is not, so not recomended.
Story is not great, gameplay is ok at best, camera angles are a pain, and you can fairly easily get stuck in the level design. I cannot recommend this game. It is a bad excuse for an action RPG. I finished the game because I wanted to end the Darksiders quadrilogy. The third installment of the franchise was not great either, but it was still better than this one. Both pale in comparison with the first two games in the series. Playing with War and Strife is fun at first, and unlocking their abilities does provide a sense of progression, but level design is not great. There are platform sections where the camera angle is so bad that you can just hope you are not jumping into nothingness, but you will most certainly be. Unless you have already played the other three games, there is no reason to even try this one. There are way better games out there, even in the same style.
IDK this was an unnecessary deviation in the franchise. By no means was I a fan of the parkour from the previous games but this is an entirely different genre now. Doesn't really itch any scratch for me.
