About This Game

Recettear is the story of an item shop, the girl who lives in it, and the fairy who turned her life upside down. Recette Lemongrass finds herself in charge of an item shop built into her house, in order to pay back a loan her father took and then skipped out on - and Tear, her newfound fairy "companion", won't take no for an answer! As Recette, you have to decide how you'll get your stock - either through playing the markets in town or going out into the wild with an adventuring friend and thrashing beasts until they give up the goodies - how much to sell things for, what the shop should look like, and how to best go about getting the money Tear needs to pay off the loan. If you can't come up with the money... well, hope you like living in a cardboard box.

Key features:

 • Manage all aspects of an item shop – from stock to interior design!
 • Explore randomized dungeons – never quite the same twice!
 • Multiple adventurers to choose from when dungeon-diving – no two play the same!
 • Plenty to do after beating the game – challenge yourself with Survival Mode or play to your heart's delight in Endless Mode!
 • Engaging story, localized by Carpe Fulgur – get to know the people of Pensee!

15+ years later, and I still haven't found a game that pulls this concept off as well as this. Closest I got might have been Moonlighter, but that game really lacked the same feeling of satisfaction.

This game is mandatory playing for anyone who likes the modern era of cozy games. I remember when this was one of the only cozy-esque games on steam in the early 2010's, and I'm happy to have grown up with it.

I hope this game gets a sequel because I'm quite interested in games like this where we can sell items and go on adventures to get the items we sell.

Recettear's gameplay and story is simple and straightforward but both item shop management and dungeon delving become monotonous after a few hours. I'd recommend as a good palate cleanser if you want to play something short and sweet. What I enjoyed: - Item shop management is easy to grasp and customer interaction is really funny, especially the dialogue when they try to sell you something What I disliked: - I know it would have been a lot of work to do but I really disliked how your chosen adventurer is never acknowledged when you have dialogue in dungeons - Despite being a game about being a merchant, money becomes useless in late game (aside from Survival mode), would have been nice to be able to buy rare ingredients for Fusion - I didn't really bother completing the Item Encyclopedia because item drop chance is atrociously low, unless you're into mindless grinding or are a completionist, and it's not like high Fusion level items are at all useful in clearing the game

This game does age very well, shop management and progressing system is better than most of this type of the game I have play. The tutorial of this game also done very well. The only thing that is kinda out dated is combat during dungeon crawler which still make me have a lot fun. For those who doesn't really care about major spoiler. (how game work)
This is a type of your family got a lot of dept and you have to pay for it but the game designed to make you fail for the first run (still winnable but very hard, if you are blind playthrough). However, you keep all your progress except money which make second or third run a lot easier than the first. So overall game is pretty chill, if you don't care about failing first run.
