As a big fan of the binging of Isaac (both versions) I got this game right away when I found it in the store, so after a couple of hours I can tell, that if you consider The binding of Isaac as an AAA roguelike dungeon action, this game would be placed somewhere between A- and B+: +It has every single aspect of the game that Isaac has, except cinematics and multiple characters (idk maybe there are but I only played 2 hours) +Mouse support from the box +Glorious MS Paint artwork ^ those are strong sides. Now going to the game itself - You are 3D dude fighting 2D abominations in a 2D world, starting to think that's the reason you are not welcome there, but weapons you find here and there are 3D as well, so it's hard to tell. +Instead of shooting tears and magic stuff, you are using way more reliable and realistic type of weaponry - rocket launchers, shotguns, pistols etc, and upgrades are more steampunkish, not magical. Now on the weak sides. -As much as MS Paint style is unusual, it'...

If you love roguelikes and are itching for a new one, give it a shot. If not, Modest Kind isn't quite polished enough for most people to get into. I am a big fan of roguelikes and I really like the art style and story development on Modest Kind. Overall, though, it feels like it is unfinished. -The shooting feels cumbersome and unsatisfying with many of the early weapons. It's mouse aim/fire- you have to click or hold down to shoot and the reticle tends to get lost on the screen amid enemies and room elements. -The collision boxes are tough to parse, it's easy to get stuck on room elements or not do damage to an enemy, even thought your bullets appear to be hitting it. -There don't seem to be any setup options other than music and sound fx volume- no resolution or windowed mode options, no key remapping. -Some of the item pickups aren't explained and don't show up in your inventory for more information. What is that? Why did I pick it up? What did it do? I have no idea! -There...

Okay... I've got over 1000 hours on The Binding Of Isaac:Rebirth and this game is kind of like that. Except weird. Honestly, I have no idea what's going on. Still recommend it for the price

menus are confusing, the art style is jarringly incosistant, animation feels lazy.. I can look past things like that if A. the story is good and/or B. the game play is good. unfortunatly the story isn't presented very well imo (played for about an hour and had no idea what was going on at all), and the game play felt akward, too slow and clunky for this style of game, and somehow unrewarding? One of the other reveiws said it well in that "the game seems unfininshed". It definatly seemed like it has a lot of elements with potential to make a good game if it were more polished all around. but unfortunatly, its not

The menu system needs work, guns should fire faster, collision with shots is shoddy, and it could use a dodge roll or something to do while walking through places you've already been but that last one is quality of life. It's a very simple and somewhat poorly animated game. You might like the way it looks, but it gets a pretty big meh over here. My biggest complaint of all though is it doesn't use the trivia gimmick enough. That's why I bought in.

Honestly I think this game is pretty good if you already play Binding of Issac and other games like it, just feels a bit unfinished at first but as you play it gets kind of endearing.
