Game is fun but it's very very similar to other games of this genre. I think it has a bit of an edge on some of them in terms of interesting story/world. I like it, though The Iron Oath has only magic and fantasy setting over Wartales. Edit: I dislike that the class choices are so limited. In this regard Wartales has a much more interesting class system with subclass choices that feel significant. The Iron Oath needs more synergy in the system imo. After 15 hours or so I feel like I'm done with the game

Mercenary group themes are always fun for a sandbox game. The Iron Oath is no different. You get a world map to explore, contracts to fulfill, company renown to build, and mercs to take care of. The pixel art graphics makes it unique. Pros: - Pixel art with tasty animation - Not confusing UI, solid gameplay - An exciting world to explore - Cool and kinda unique mercenary builds - Merc group management Cons: - No "original" mechanic, it's all been done elsewhere - Combat kinda tough (although difficulty can be adjusted) - Not a lot of customizations outside merc builds - Just okay story, i'm more hooked because i want my merc group to prosper and grow stronger
This is a pretty fun game and the art direction is phenomenal, but for some reason, it couldn't hold my attention. I enjoyed the dungeon crawling, which can go sideways at any moment, leaving you in an enjoyably stressful situation. The combat itself SHOULD be awesome. There are varied classes, a bunch of skills, enemy weaknesses, and environmental hazards. Even so, there was something missing. Anyway, it's a fun game and even though it didn't hook me, maybe it'll hook you!
Really good. Definitely scratches the medieval mercs turn-based itch. Very easy to do "just one more fight" until 2am. One thing I've noticed is that there aren't many guides at all, so you just figure things out yourself like the old days. Very satisfying all around.
God this game is fantastic
It's a fund tactical RPG set in a high fantasy world. The story is engaging and worthwhile and the game does a good job of keeping you moving through different main and side quests. The battles get easier as your troops get stronger and equip higher level gear, but the difficulty also does a decent job scaling up enemies and keeping you thinking throughout. I also liked the challenge presented by having to maintain a substantial chest of gold in order to pay my troop's wages. This often forced me to take a break from story related quests and take up some odd jobs around towns to refill my coffers. All in all, a solid game and I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel in a while.
