There are a few bugs that really are silly and haven't been fixed yet, but nothing major that would prevent you from playing. Also there isn't really any sort of storytelling, just very functional quests that aren't suitable to really soak you into the world, which never really develops any sort of character. After all, it's really just a sandbox, and the maps are allways randomly generated. Some handmade ones would definitely be a nice addition. BUT....let's not talk about why Foundation isn't a 100% perfect game. Because it's at least perfect in the core elements that it actually tries to be good at: what you get is a really addictive medieval city builder, that sets itself apart from the competition by giving you a ton of building parts and decorations and whatnot so that you can not just place building XYZ, but instead customize it and make it unique. Even more so when it comes to the construction of bigger structures such as castles, monasteries or city halls. Small ingame quests ...

Foundation has the potential to be a great game and i like a lot of the mechanics. Unfortunatly, at the current state, i can't recommend it and wouldn't buy it again, as the bugs and inconsistencies are killing my motivation. First the good things: - Nice graphics - The economy works very well (resource gathering, goods production, trade) - The different game mechanics to develop your town fit well into each other - The final goal to build a flourshing city, big castle and/or monstary are motivating What finally killed my motivation: First, the splendor mechanics: I get the idea but at the current state it's just an inconvenience as the game doesn't give you enough tools or options to decorate your buildings nicely to achieve the level of splendor unless you cheese it, which is very simple to do. There should really be a better balance of what gives you how much splendor: Why should i waste space and resources on a decorative stable, giving me the same amount of splendor as a rose bu...
Between a UI that offers incomplete or unactionable information about issues (failed pathing? What was the issue? No can tell; the game only points you at who it was and where they were going. Blow things up until it works again!), buggy and fiddly modular buildings, and an agent based simulation with insufficient agent control (a serf is homeless while there is available housing near where they work, but they won't choose to live there and I can't make them, so I guess they'll just stay homeless and complaining then) this game makes for a frustrating management experience at most stages of gameplay. When you add on the wonky house zoning (large areas of desirable land in the middle of a town get no houses for no apparent reason and most of the build housing plots are so empty that you can build whole other buildings on them, just don't delete anything or it will all implode) and inscrutable agents (what do the work levels do? Nobody knows! Why do they spend all their time walking half...
I played the game in early access and I had a blast. Of course it was buggy but I enjoyed it a lot. Now? I don't want to play it anymore. They took 75% of my achievements, they changed a lot of things to more complicated which was completely not needed for this game and just the gameplay itsef somehow changed... Many times I want to play again but then I remember what they did to the game I used to love... and its just hanging there in my library, after 200+ hours played in past
I can't recommend Foundation as it is currently. I had this game in my wishlist for a very long time. It hit a sale recently, and I had just gotten done with a Civ 6 playthrough so figured no time like now to go ahead and give it a shot. I'll start by saying my initial impressions of the game were very good. I love the artstyle. It has an immense amount of charm, from the character and building designs, to the UI. The controls are relatively easy to navigate, and the tutorial does a good job of walking you through the basics to better understand the menus. The music is very era specific and pulls you into what would be a perfect cozy realm, if it weren't for the things that hold it back, so I'll try to dive a little deeper; I'm not the best at reviewing games in a negative light. It feels to me like Foundation can't get out of it's own way. From trailers, and any amount of gameplay footage, it appears to be a cozy city-builder; different from a game like Cities: Skylines, where ever...
I have bit of a love hate relationship with the game. It has great base but certain things do need some tuning. Like when you promote villages they complain about not having access to entertainment even when walking past empty tavern. There is sweet spot in game where you get and then it seems to start falling apart no matter how evenly you build and promote etc. I would like more options to things like entertainment. Its still fun game to play and obviously it has kept me playing over 100 hours by far. Its easy to learn and gives lot of options how to manage your little kingdom
I purchased the game during Early Access, and at the time I understood that having some bugs was normal. However, after starting a new game and investing many hours, I’ve run into an issue that has become very frustrating. When a house is upgraded to level 2 because of a certain resident, and that resident later moves out, the house automatically downgrades. This creates a repetitive loop: the house downgrades, I have to spend materials and time to upgrade it again, another eligible resident moves in, it upgrades again, then they leave, and the cycle repeats. I would suggest adding a setting or mechanic that allows a house to remain at level 2 even if the resident leaves. This would reduce unnecessary micromanagement and make the late game more enjoyable. I’ve played for over 250 hours and really enjoy the game, but in the late game, this loop becomes tedious and takes away from the fun.
looks like upgrade serf to commoner downgrade their intelligence. just how when I have plenty of bread and lot of market selling it, but the commoner still unhappy and chose to leave because the complain the lack of refined food? also plenty of fish and berries, lot of market selling it and the game still said I lacked of rusty food? please fix this edit: nvm, it seems like i need to understand the mechanic deeply, so far this is one of the coziest town builder. just becareful on upgrading your villager, wrong timing can ruin your progress.
Fun, chill game but pretty buggy. Building attachments needed to be rebuilt every time I loaded, during one out of my three playthroughs. Villagers get stuck sometimes but teleport out after a while. Other small annoying bugs. UI needs a bit more polish for management of certain things. Also the residential density reset if unpatrolled is not a great mechanic. And should definitely show all entries to buildings when placing a new building.
I started a town, i assigned first builder called Alfrigg, he built woodcutter camp and 80% of berry gathering hut. Then he decided he wont work anymore. Normally, i would accept if my people want breaks, or just... CANT work. But he took WAYYY to big break from finishing small hut, that was almost ready. So i hired two other builders, and they went finish the hut immediatly. So i fired Alfrigg. And ever since i fired him, my town been perfect! Now all i do, is wait until i can build prison or something, so i can put Alfrigg there. (And if this game doesnt have one yet, then... please add one.) Anyway, awesome game. Cozy, chill, beautiful and fun. Just... dont hire Alfrigg. Atleast not as builder. And if you dont have any Alfriggs in your world, consider yourself blessed!
