It's really hard for me to write this review, as I can't say I didn't enjoy this VN in some ways. Still, I don't think I can reasonably give it a positive recommendation, for a few reasons. Many of my complaints might sound vague because it’s hard not to spoil anything major otherwise, but I think it should be comprehensible enough. First, it’s the over-the-top writing and plot twists that kill the suspension of disbelief very early on. Some plot points are simply too much to take them seriously and this was rather easily avoidable, by some changes to the setting or paying more attention to details on the part of the writer. Second is the protagonist, who is a “grumpy asshole” somewhat typical for VNs, but takes this attitude to new heights, to the point when it stops being in any way relatable or interesting to read. Also, he’s meant to be a genius, but really doesn’t do or say anything that would make the reader feel this way. Through the whole stor...

Alright so I liked this thing from the beginning. back when Carpe diem was first made and put on steam, my friend showed it to me and I thought it was a gag, but I really like the premise. This one is better in everyway, better art, better story, surprisingly good voice acting, and a fairly coherent story. Eyzi, if you're reading this, I'd like to thank you and congratualte you on a very well made game. Also King is liking it too. EDIT: Eyzzi you bicth stop playing with my heart.
Starts cute and depressing, hits you in the nose and then... and then it says what, something like "just a prank bro"? This game is some sort of continuation of the the first Carpe Diem, a tiny free visual novel with a very interesting punchline. The point is, this punchline works so well because the free version was so short (I have given it a positive review). The author failed miserably to explore the myriad of possible interesting plot lines which could easily have made this a 95% Metacritic VN. Instead of continuing with the direction of the first VN, the author decided to add all the possible plot lines from all possible animes, mix it with a shallow cliche anti-social protagonist, sparkled with random irrelevant characters and laugheable variety. The plot is straight. There are
only 4
choices throughout the game, and
only the last
influences the ending. There are
only 2
endings, which do not connect well to your choices...
This is... an interesting follow-up to the free-to-play Carpe Diem. It begins where the other ended. And then... well, it gets interesting. Ai manages to get out of the computer into the real world. There are a lot of interesting experiences she has. But we also get to learn more about Jung's past. And both endings are not... pleasant. Even the "Happy Ending" does not appear to be a happy-ever-after. Still worth the price.
The "Good Ending" was a really nice twist to the awesome story that is this game. Then I played it again and got the "True Ending" and now I need a third game and a new heart, so... Please make a third Carpe Diem VN Eyzi! This series is awesome and the storyline as simple as it is, is really enjoyable and gripping. Good effort, great games! 10/10 Necks Broken
I wasn't a fan of this game. I played the original game and liked it, but this one doesn't do it for me. I won't spoil anything, but the story has plot twists that make little sense and several elements that are just too unbelievable despite considerable suspension of disbelief. There's quite a bit of dissonance between the original and this one, given how out of the blue many developments are and how they try and fail to realistically recontextualize the first game and its premise. It just doesn't work. It's over the top, and though some of the new characters are enjoyable, many of them are either entirely irrelevant to the plot or just make no sense as characters. The main character is also very unlikeable. It works in the first game given how short it was, but here, he just seems so inconsiderate and rude. Some backstory is revealed for him, but it just doesn't add up, and his actions near the end of the game are very questionable, putting it vaguely. Overall, there are some thi...
I played the original Carpe Diem when it came out and while it did have an abrupt ending it carried an effective message. This is simply not the case with Carpe Diem: Reboot. Unlike the first iteration I found this one a chore to get through; the main premise is padded out and there is an "illusion of choice" barring the final decision (which isn't really a decision when there's a "true ending"). Also pretty major for replays, there's no skip seen or unseen text button. It has decent voice acting... If you're a VN collector get it, if not pass.
I'm always impressed when I run into a Visual Novel that somehow brings into focus a topic, or in Carpe Diem: Reboot's case, several topics, that I struggle with. Identity has always been a fascinating aspect of human culture. The idea of existence and what it means to physically and mentally be allowed to question the concept of how we can question, how we can attempt to look outside ourselves at our preternatural and/or learned behavior and wonder why they are possible. The art of discovery is a fascinating journey to me. In Carpe Diem: Reboot, I was expecting a story about our main character's falling in a one-sided love, with tension, and eventual understanding. This story is so far deeper than anything I could have predicted. Without spoilers, the game picks up where the first game left off, showing Ai working on digital projects for Jung. Ai's life moves from a program to a physical body and the antics and drama that come from that are really a splendid jumping off point for a re...
"What am I doing with my life.."
The first part after all these years remains one of my favorite games. Short, beautiful and memorable for a long time, like fireworks, it stays in my memory as a bright trace. After such a storm of emotions, I incredibly wanted to play the second part, but I was able to get to it only now. And, my impressions were mixed.
>REBOOT. PLOT
The actions continue the first part. Our hero tries to create an ideal girl, but the program fails again and again. So he gave up and decided to spend the last days with her until the code finally disappeared and deleted itself from the computer. However, the smartest AI has its own plans, having received control over the 3D printer and mechanical hand, she closes herself behind the curtain and begins to prepare a gift for us. Day and night she creates something, receives a bunch of boxes with unknown contents, and categorically forbids us to watch. From lack of communication, we begin to get b...
