I finally beat this game, so I feel like I can review it now. This game is rough around the edges. It leaves you confused more often than not, it has a bevvy of unexplained mechanics that even now I don't think I could explain to you, it has dialogue that feels stilted, typos, content that is hidden behind 10+ minute explorations of mostly empty areas, and a difficulty spike towards the end that one could generously call "mountainous." This game is also now one of my favorites, and I would not change a single thing about the above. It took a while for me to understand what Wooden Ocean was trying to do. There were moments of genuinely great character writing, buried by nonsensical dialogue and circumstance. The combat is genuinely deep but at times hampered by its own scale. Some of the best moments are hidden so so so far out of the way that you'd have to be insane or insanely lucky to find them. It clicked for me when I realized what Wooden Ocean is about. GAME IS MURDA!
A truly wonderful expression of gam mak. Praise be to the feelings of earnestness! Praise be to the wastings of times!
Its pretty slick, worth the play.
This is a game that feels like it shouldn't exist, but it does. I've never played anything that's quite like it, so I wanted to talk about it for a bit. I won't go over the story much since it's something you should really experience for yourself, all I'll say about it is that it's really fucking good, and while it's not finished (or at least it doesn't feel finished to me), it does have a some sort of ending point while the game keeps being worked on. World & Exploration Honestly, this is the part of the game I'm most split on, sometimes I think it's genius, and sometimes it feels a bit like a chore. The game is fucking huge, like astronomically huge. The amount of areas and how big some of the areas are is just genuinely nuts. The game feels like a huge open world; almost all areas are interconnected to one another. There are underground areas with multiple levels that expand through the world map; you can mostly go wherever you want from the start if you manage to not get m...
I have enjoyed my time so far, I double checked the steam store and am just slightly confused at how vacant of information it is. The game has some really neat stuff going on but I have barely delved deep enough
Incredibly interesting and Decently Complex Jrpg, if you are a fan of turn based combat and want to see a game that does A LOT with that system, this is a game for you. If you like piecing togheter an interesting story and World, This is a game for you. May the MUrda be with you.
