About This Game

If we need to describe this game in brief sentence, this game is like an evil soul living in a cute body. I'll tell you why:

--How long does it take to beat the game? Half an hour?

C'mon, what can you do within 30 minutes in this game, maybe clear the first chapter? That's only 1/8 of all the levels, and pretty much the easiest part!

--So you mean you'll keep doing the laser cat trick for 4 hours?

No kidding! Light Tracer has 8 chapters with TOTALLY DIFFERENT gameplay and machanics and puzzles! Could you please check the reviews from media? Here are some examples.

Light Tracer is a well-crafted VR platform title. Once you get used to the controls, it becomes challenging enough to keep you coming back for more --VRFocus

Light Tracer is a wonderful, if at times way too tough VR experience. It looks and sounds great, and will keep players busy for a very long time. --PXS-Sense.nl

It’s a lot of “pat your head and rub your stomach” level complexity as my brain tried to sync up two distinctly separate things in order to help the princess on her journey, especially the further up the tower I climbed. -- PlayStation Lifestyle

See? This game is challenging!

--But what about that best kids and family game award?

They are probably wrong, because if you let a kid play the latter levels they will probably cry and quit -- I don't think they can figure out the puzzles or even the action part. If there has to be an award for Light Tracer, it should be "Most hardcore VR game" or something.

--Hardcore??? Are you serious??? With this chibi character?

Don't be fooled by the visualization! It's cute, no problem, but it's not an "easy-come-and-go" thing! There are boss fights for each chapter and it feels like the battles in Legend of Zelda! It involves action, puzzle-solving and patience, which is just what a hardcore game means!

--OK, OK, I get it, it's Legend of Zelda in VR?

Sorry but you are wrong again! It's not ripping off Zelda, instead, everything here you will see is original. Just, the developers try to mix some classic feel of Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Monument Valley into VR, with their original control scheme. But you should soon see that this make the game feel even different from those classic games when you play it in VR! Honestly I don't know how to explain it well and that's the reason why there's so much misunderstanding to it. But from what everyone says after playing it, it's a game that any curious person shouldn't miss.

--Anything more?

Yes, Light Tracer is on Steam now and if you want to check if we are wrong just try it!

Run&Jump Platformer with puzzle elements, in VR. Extremely cute graphics with what would be vibrant colors without the slightly overdone bloom, great soundtrack, infuriating to play at first due to the weird control scheme and a factor I'll explain in a bit, but once you get the hang of it (remember that the Vive touchpad can be super sensitive) it works well and is actually fun (albeit still rage-quit inducing at times). The one thing to keep in mind is that the princess is dumb as breadcrumb. She will walk in a straight line to the point you are pointing at, even if there is an abyss in front of her. This is really just as as it is in every other run and jump (when was the last time Mario jumped over a gap although you forgot to press 'A'? , but due to VR and the very nice modelling and animation work she looks semi-real and you kind of expect her to have some semblance of intelligence and autonomie ... which she really really doesn't have. Still... a very nice, child friendly ...

Hello, I must apologies for this is my first ever review. I have reached pretty far in the game, I will update my review on completion of the game. I barely got myself a Mixed Reality headset and was looking around the steam store when I came across this game before release and thought this would be a pretty neat game. Compared to all the other games on steam at the time and now I still think this game is one of the most well made on the steam market right now! So the game is a simple puzzle/platformer and as you progress thru the game the puzzles become more difficult and rewarding with very little to no hand holding/tutorials form the game. As you progress thru the game you will have little interactions with the little princess as she wishes to reach the top of the tower. Best way I could describe her is that she is a spunky princess thinking she can get up the tower all by herself. The game mechanics are crisp, clean and responsive. Be aware, for players that are ...

A better than expected platformer with some good music and interesting boss fights. The only negative is the save file. You can't move it and no cloud backups. =(

Kind of wish there was a more neutral option than just Yes/No. The biggest problem with this game is that there is a crash on Exit that will force you to remove your VR headset to dismiss the crash dialog when you want to stop playing. While this doesn't impact gameplay this is a huge inconvenience in general. (Used Vive, did not test Rift and don't know if the crash happens there or not.) Furthermore, this game is predominantly viewed from different angles by grabbing and rotating the map. If you have ever seen or played a game called Echochrome it's basically like that although without the perspective gimmick. This means, unfortunately in my opinion, that there is no real reason for this to be a VR title, BUT I do appreciate the developers' contributions to diversifying the genres and perspectives available for VR. The game seems fairly straight forward and simple, there is no real penalty for death as far as I can tell except you start at the last checkpoint which are frequent. I...
