About This Game

Just you. On a lake.
Step into your rowboat, grab the paddles and dive into a meditative, relaxing VR fishing experience like no other.
Catch & Release places you on a beautiful mountain lake and lets you freely explore and row around while you choose your fishing spot and take in the scenery. The backdrop for your fishing adventures includes dense forest, mountains, cliffs and reed covered coastlines.

While you fish you can listen to music on the radio, skip stones across the lake or use any other of the many interactive items.
Choose the right bait, pick a good fishing ground and cast your rod to get the biggest fish on the hook! But once you do, it’s not over yet. You’ll have to tire out your catch and win the fight before you can reel it in!

The game is designed to enable players to unwind and play however they want, or you can take on missions to unlock new gear and interactive items to help you catch the biggest fish!
Catch & Release has been built from the ground up for VR and tracked controllers. We have also compiled several radio channels with their own music genres for your listening pleasure on the lake.

Catch & Release works on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Microsoft Mixed Reality.

Ok first off, we have a heatwave here right now so I cannot play VR for too long without sweating rivers, I just wanted a quick glance to give a reaction for ppl who are wondering about this game. Game is very much a fishing game, going for the realistic approach, not an arcade approach, and my first impression was very good. graphics are nice, very pretty and crisp, my only tiny gripe is the texture of the cork and gaffa tape on the rod, it just doesnt pop. Sound is pretty perfect for this game, I would like to hear the clicking of the line being pulled out when the fish struggle though, but the different interactions with the water are well represented. The feedback from the rod is great, you can make some excellent long throws with a minimum of practice, the wheel is easy to use, putting on bait and removing fish is easy and effortless, and the forcefeedback used is just right, subtle but precise. Interacting with the items and the boat is well made, it all feels very natural and o...
This has rapidly become one of my favorite VR experiences. It's very soothing, and with some custom radio stations, I can spend a long time in here. Tips for new players: - You're not trying to rip the fish out of the water, you're trying to exhaust the fish until you can lift it from the water. Don't be afraid to let it swim away from you with the hook, it'll come back. Keep the rod slightly bent to tug on the fish and tire it out, but don't let it go near snapping, and you'll be fine. - The trigger releases the line, but it's analog: less trigger pull, less tension-release. When letting out the line on a fish that's swimming away, try not pulling the trigger far at all, and see how that changes things. When I am playing, I am very finely adjusting my trigger pull constantly, don't treat it like a binary button.
Are you having a bad day ? Did you loose a game of CS because of non-speaking teamates ? Do you wanna do something when it's raining and cold outside ? Do you wanna play a game even if you are tired ? Do you want to just relax ? Then buy this game,. The game is more relaxing than ASMR videos. This game is sooo nice and you can just sit and relax 10/10 i wanna fish
Well, I never write reviews.......but.... this game, yeah I know, it's a fishing game, is hands down the most fun I have had with any VR game! Sure it has its little flaws, but that's expected in early access. But the potential for this is unlimited in my view. More lakes, more fish, tackle, poles, boats, etc. I am looking forward to what's ahead. Hell I haven’t been fishing in 20 years and this made me go out and buy real fishing gear to start again! Keep up the great work DEVS, it is well worth the price.
This game promises a relaxing time fishing away in the wonderful world of VR. However, it has a few problems. The main one for me was that if you are relegated to standing or sitting, then reaching for all the items is going to be problematic. There is no way to grab anything from afar, and my seated position had me almost sitting on top of the cooler, which led me to dropping several fish and struggling to pick them up. Also, for those who have the Valve Index controllers, the game does not utilize the grip sensor very well. Even though there is an option to change the grip from toggle to analog, it does not work, forcing me to squeeze my controller successively to grab or let go. Finally, while the game isn't too crazy with it's key bindings, there is no way to change the controls or even see what they are outside a tutorial that is sometimes vague.
If you have a stressful job and want to relax when you get home, this is a cool way to do it. I kind of takes me back in time fishing with my father who passed a few years ago. Man how I wish that I could show him this. I have just started playing this but I know this will be one I will put many hours into and become a favorite. Its peaceful and you can sit and enjoy just hanging on the lake or throw the line in. The radio is cool but listening to the nature sounds is much better for me. I really hope that the developers are working on an expansion or additional games like this. I have tried to find several games or applications to relax in VR. None of them come close to this. Well Done and Thank You for this much needed release.
The most time I have spent in any VR game to date - and that says it all. Hands down the best fishing experience in VR so far.
Catch & Release is already my favourite VR Game. It has allowed me to dive into it in a way usually only possible through normal games. Hands down my favourite VR experience. P.S: If anyone is concerned about the quest bug mentioned somewhere here in the reviews, it has since been patch by the awesome dev team.
This is a pretty cool game for when you just want to sit down and relax, but still have something to do (otherwise you might as well go meditate). There's some nice scenery reminiscent of the Pacific northwest (British Columbia in Canada? Oregon? Washington State? Somewhere in that area) and you get to sit in a boat, not care when/if it rains and listen to some weird folksy music (It's not terrible but I wouldn't load it up on my ipod). As someone who now has the Valve Index Controllers, it works ok with this game, but the game hasn't been updated to work with them completely. For example, there's two grip options. One is "grip hold" where you hold the grip buttons to keep holding something in your hand and the other is grip toggle for Vive Wand users because the Vive wand grip buttons suck. Well, I figured with the Index Knuckles, I'd just be able to release my hand and the object should fall, but it seems like it still sorta reacts like grip toggle even though I turned that op...
