About This Game

There was once an immortal Empress.
Then it turned out she was not so immortal after all.

She ruled the World of Aeser for over a thousand years until her own courtiers betrayed her. That was a hundred years before you were born.

They always said the Empress cast a long Shadow, and today the Shadow of a dark empire hangs over your head. Face that lingering darkness from the perspective of three characters with intertwining stories.

Julius

You are Julius, a shadow demon. Your kind once served the empire as mindless automatons. But your mind and memories were returned to you by chance. Will you take this opportunity to get your mind back for good? Or will you succumb to the Hunger that whispers to you?

Kalevel

You are Kalevel, an ancient demoness once despised by the immortal Empress. Now, long life has left you complacent. Will you see the signs of a new enemy before it is too late?

Tell

You are Tell, a girl who wants desperately to leave a home plagued by memories of family tragedy. Unfortunately, your hunt for job in the city brings you smack up against that tragedy in the least likely of places. Who would have thought you'd find a ghost from your past in the notorious Imperial catacombs?

Some choices affect your character's personality. Others alter the plot.

Some paths lead to horror.
Others to romance or friendship.

Endings unfold and are fully realized rather than being tersely summarized.

With 80,000 words of content, each playthrough comprises 1-2 hours of gameplay, although this varies widely with each path. Tell a Demon is designed to be replayed, however, and to find and fully experience all the content takes 4-6 hours or more.

The ghost of the Immortal Empress invites you to enter...
...the mysterious World of Aeser.

Tell a Demon is the second part of the Asher series, which is set to be a trilogy of visual novels taking place in the eponymous fictional city. While playing the first game, Asher (which can be downloaded for free on the developer's blog), is not mandatory to play this stand-alone game, it can help get a stronger grip on the lore and the motivation of a couple characters, and I would recommend playing it beforehand of after your first ending. Now, onto Tell a Demon. It is undoubtedly one of the strongest visual novels I’ve played yet, both in terms of visuals and story. The art is totally unique, more reminiscent of paintings you would see in the 16th century section of a museum than classic VN art. I can’t express how much I love the attention that went into little details in the sprites: sometimes the only observable alteration comes from a raised eyebrow or a bitten lip, and yet the change in expression is striking while conveying a subtle shift in emotion....

Tell A Demon is such a great VN that I wish more people knew about! It introduces a genuinely original story and world, and even though it can be a bit rough to find your bearings in it, it's definitely worth it. The artstyle is great, fits the tone of the story perfectly, and really serves the writing well - not that it really needs it. So many scenes are just... really, actually well-written, and don't need the help of the art of the music (both of which are still very good) to leave a strong impression. The biggest barrier to enjoying the game, I think, is that it's a lot to take in, and the story can go in many different directions without giving you a good overview of what's going on overall. You definitely need a few playthroughs to get to the end without murdering half the cast in the process and ending up as confused as you were at the beginning (like I did). When you start to get a better grasp of the backstories of the character is when the VN gets really exciting - and a...

+ Lovely art work, story and music overall. - 16 different endings felt iffy to me would have prefered less and longer routes.

As you can see, the art is gorgeous, and the music is very nice with just enough variety The first play through the world building is a little overwhelming, there is also a mechanic where you can check the viewpoint character's thoughts, or little tidbits to enhance the worldbuilding. Personally I think it could have been executed better, I wish there had been a popup or something when a new observation is available, otherwise you just have to keep pulling it up to see if anything's new. There are enough varied and interesting endings that I would definitely recommend several play throughs. Although there were also endings that were a bit disappointing. Overall I enjoyed the storyline and found most of the characters interesting, and some of the endings were really good and with good emotional payoffs

The art and story are great, but you may want to play the (free) previous game first to understand more of the plot and get to know a few of the side characters, and more about the world. The world building in this series is probably its strongest point tbh. Also note that this game is relatively short, and it will have a sequel. Things are somewhat resolved in some endings... but the fact that there will be a sequel is quite clear, and it might be a while. Still, if you like the previous game, and this seems of interest to you, give it a shot ^^

I could write a very long explanation on why exactly I absolutely adore this vn, but I'll keep it short. This visual novel is a very fine work of fiction and deserve more attention. The art is astonishing and characters are very well written. Also I keep thinking from time to time about lore and story of this vn and how good it's crafted. Definately check other works of S. A. Welland such as Asher (first in Asher trilogy) and Sunrise.

Kind of confusing at first, throws a lot of info at you at once and it takes time to kind of know the world and the characters and actually know what you're deciding about; sometimes I felt lost and disconnected from the characters, however the game overall is very original, the art and soundtrack is beautiful and your choices really make difference (and it's difficult to predict what impact will they have). Give it a try, it's obvious a lot of work went into this game.

I love this game. The art is beautiful, with all those little details that speak of great care. The characters are very human and flawed, even if most of them are demons. The whole world of Tell a Demon, and the first stand alone game Asher before it, is a deeply immersive experience and am absolutely looking forward to the next part. The music is nice to listen to and fits the mood of the scens quite well. I'm already invsted and wondering who will make it out unscathed. The world of Asher is not always a nice one, but it is not simply grimdark. There is a determination in its characters to continue and make the most of what they have and I find that soothing in a way. I am no way through the whole game, but I have played Asher and I feel already at home in Tell a Demon. I hope the next one carries on the magic, so to speak.

Very good, the other reviews do a better job at explaining it all. And why it is so good, I just wanted to post a review so the game can get a higher score, and hopefully attract a bigger audience. Buy it!
