About the Game

Mechabellum is an infinitely replayable, turn-based tactical auto battler in which you gain victory by adapting your strategy and outhinking your opponents. Select, customize, and deploy a variety of powerful mechs in a futuristic battlefield face-off, and watch as they wreak epic mechanized havoc.

From the nimble Wasp to the massive, flame-wielding Vulcan, learn the strengths and weaknesses of dozens of unique units. Between matches, visit the unit workshop to refine your army, access new technologies, and develop advanced tactics to maximize your squad’s destructive power.

Utilize dozens of battle-ready mechs in a chaotic, tactical dance between battalions. Anticipate your opponent's moves, select the perfect combination of units, and strategically position your mechs on the battlefield to annihilate the enemy’s forces.

Hone your skills with community-created challenges and tutorials. Spectate live matches. Battle against bots and complete challenges in the game’s solo modes. Take control of replays of past battles to explore different strategies. Then face off against other human commanders in intense 1v1 duels, strategic 2v2 team battles, and chaotic four-player free-for-all competitions.

Watch shrapnel, incendiary bombs and huge lasers cut through the air as battles between massive armies of war machines unfold in front of your eyes, and watch the scale of destruction escalate with every round.

Man, ever since that new patch dropped yesterday, the whole game feels wrecked. They added that building and honestly, it completely killed the old meta. Stuff like one-side aggro and switch just doesn’t work anymore. Openings with Tarantula, Sabertooth, Sledge? Basically useless now compared to Stormcaller. The crazy part is the devs at Game River said this was supposed to reduce the whole rock-paper-scissors problem and cut down on rigid builds. But instead, it feels like they’re forcing everyone to play the same way. Like, you either defend with Stormcaller or you’re done. Just look at the high MMR matches—Sacco vs. Flowerfairy for example. What do you see? Storms, Fangs, then a swap to missile interceptors. That’s what they call “less formulaic”? Please. Honestly, the devs just seem full of themselves at this point. With changes like this, I can’t recommend the game anymore. And yeah, even after putting in over a thousand hours, I’m done. I’m uninstalling.

Probably one of the most underrated strategy games on Steam. I just keep coming back to it.

This game is everything that I want from a RTS without the massive requirement for high APM that Starcraft takes, or the huge time investment that Total War games take. I have been wanting a strategy game that feels advanced bit still approachable. Basically, this game is to Starcraft what Battlegrounds is to Hearthstone, but with more features. In addition to the well crafted game design and balanced strategy, the game has a heavy trend towards supporting its community and social engagement. It is so refreshing to find a game that facilitates player interaction instead of being scared of it. It has public tournaments, 2v2 and free for all 4p mode, community challenges, and this is all after having spent a handfull of hours in the game. And if you want singleplayer content, it has that, too in the form of survival and custom difficulty bots. It may not be a huge amount, but it's more than almost any other auto-battler I've seen. For $15, this game is an incredible deal and a surprisi...

The addition of building that are pre-set into this game has completely ruined all strategic elements. Now it has just degraded into people using the same units and tactics every round. I used to love the creativity and even when I lost it felt fun. Now it just feels like I am facing people using the one meta that works for grinding their MMR. The fun of the game is gone now. Its the meta or nothing else.

Buildings update makes no sense and is poorly implemented. A meticulously balanced game based on careful unit placement, and then they shoehorn a hairbrained mechanic that haphazardly upsets game balance at a fundamental level, ruining many playstyles. Limits player creativity, slows the game down, forces defensive posture and where you can effectively place units. For what? To make early game slightly less volatile? Did players even care about that? Who asked for this?

The developers made a great game and now instead of expanding it they're messing with it for no apparent reason. A recent update made an arbitrary and irritating change to the battlefield, adding buildings to it. These buildings contribute nothing, all they do is clutter the board and add an unwelcome random element to the board. No longer enjoying this game.

I love this game. I have 700 hours. However the last patch ruined the magic. I will happily change this review once the walls are removed and it goes back to a creative game.

Mechabellum is a complex tactical auto-battler pitting legions of mechanized units against one another in a chess-like battle of wits... or at least, it is some of the time. The graphics are slick, with good use of bloom and high quality rendering. The sound design is fine. Nothing about it really stands out - good or bad. The game design is interesting - like playing chess - but both players have to decide each of their moves simultaneously, only learning what their opponent did after they have both moved. It makes strategy, tactics, and forethought important. The problem is the way the game is set up. You have extremely limited resources, and can only choose a couple of mechs per round. The problem is compounded by the relatively poor unit balance. The game mechanics heavily encourage a scissor/paper/rock approach - which I personally consider one of the greatest crutches of modern rts gaming. Regardless - the system is incredibly easy to cheese, and if someone chooses t...

New patch ruined the game. Buildings make it slower and everyone uses the same play style. I used to love this game.
