One of the levels for combat is someone's shallow grave. This is a super simple colony sim game with some base building elements, basic RTS combat and very straightforward genetics / breeding mechanics. Super enjoyable for fans of simple strategy games or those interested in the genre but need something less complex. The art style is peak too. Gives me a 2005 "my turn for computer stations" in second grade vibe.

About This Game
Breed an army of beetles, feed and raise them, then send them into battle!
Beetle Uprising is a combination of real-time tactics gameplay, breeding simulation, and home building. Your mission: conquer the abandoned lot and smite all who stand in your way! Featuring a complex genetics system based on real-world science, your army of beetles can be interbred to bring out the best traits for combat, aesthetics and survivability.
Key features
- Beetle breeding is built upon a complex genetics simulation, placing the most immense beetle possibilities behind tactical biological decisions.
- Look after your beetles as if they were your pets. They need food, shelter, company, toys to play with, and cleanliness: every beetle appreciates a well-kept nest.
- Play through 16 unique real-time-tactics (RTT) style campaign missions with your personal beetle army.
- Send beetles on dozens of additional solo-missions to gather resources for the home nest.
From the relative safety of your nest, you will breed generations of beetles that will fan out over the treacherous abandoned lot to conquer territory and unearth its riches. Unlock the secrets of your genetic potential through careful pairings of select members of your swarm. Learn new abilities and enhance the performance of your species over generations of offspring. Biting is a dependable attack that no beetle should underestimate, but what if you could spit caustic bile? drain your enemies' vital fluids? or perhaps explode in a wondrous shower of carapace flavored shrapnel! This and more are only a few choice alleles away... should you discover them.
But your domination isn't all biting and slashing. You must rear your beetles and tend to their needs of food, comfort and health. As you conquer new territories, you will retrieve the necessary resources like seeds, berries, and that most prized of delicacies: rotting meat. Send out your beetles to explore new areas, learn of their defenses and treasures. If your chosen champions are up for the task, they may well find rare items to aid the swarm in its rise to power. Perhaps they’ll retrieve a soothing bar of soap, a rubber ball, or even some nutritious brains! Nothing tickles the ganglia like comfort foods.
New beetles joining your ranks will inject fresh DNA into the gene pool. Not only will they unlock new abilities and enhance their foraging and fighting traits, crossbreeding will also reveal rare beetle aesthetics like horns, spikes, ridges, colors, textures and metallic finishes! Each beetle you raise will be uniquely yours, a master of statistics, looks, and stature.
Taking over each territory will require specialized abilities and tactical decision-making as you lead your swarm into battle. Feel the fluid joy of your horde in battle. You don’t push individuals about like puppets, you usher them about as a maestro would lead a symphony building up to a crescendo and crashing them upon your enemies like a tidal wave of destruction.

Very early review but oh well. So far it's a pretty basic strategy game. get beetles with high stats via breeding them, fight off hoards of enemies or destroy spawn points in some missions and avoid losing the mission, and so on. One thing I find interesting is that the UI gives heavy mobile game vibes.
The most confusing game I have ever played. When you start you get a few big walls of images and text explaining the UI of the game and how certain things work (instead of an immersive gameplay tutorial). Once you have read everything you are left there with 2 starter beetles and the task to guess what comes next ... Of course you would go straight for missions and other things on the map. The beetles often failed and they always brought back only food. But your beetles Bronk and Hedgwir here need beds and toys to fill up their sleep and play bars ... that's a problem ... neither of those items were obtained after doing these missions TONS of times. They both got increasingly angry (orange then red) and then they didn't want to go on any more missons. End of the game there? For me it was because I'm not continuing on that. You don't either have 'goop' to fight the first enemy or a way to level up without waiting 10 years. Feels like a bad version of an idle game. My advice: go for a...
I really like this game. It's a little under-developed, but what's here is certainly playable. I'm really enjoying building my beetle colony... It's so cozy to play. Seeing beetles chill out with each other in your custom-built nest is great. And I like the random patterns each beetle can have. While the genetic system is a bit confusing, it's ultimately the most complex part of the game and requires some special paying attention to for obtaining the best beetle stats. Combat is pretty much as basic as it comes, so the strategy really comes from managing your beetles so that they are prepared for battle. It's more of a cinematic experience than a skill-based one, you see? Here's my issues: Although I wish there were more at-home events, or ways to bond with your beetles. The music is really generic, which makes it terrible. I would've loved some atmospheric, relaxing fun. The opening cinematic and its story are... Really lackluster and terrible. I mean, windows movie maker-t...
