An Insurance Adventure with Minimal Color
In 1802, the merchant ship Obra Dinn set out from London for the Orient with over 200 tons of trade goods. Six months later it hadn't met its rendezvous point at the Cape of Good Hope and was declared lost at sea.
Early this morning of October 14th, 1807, the Obra Dinn drifted into port at Falmouth with damaged sails and no visible crew. As insurance investigator for the East India Company's London Office, dispatch immediately to Falmouth, find means to board the ship, and prepare an assessment of damages.
Return of the Obra Dinn is a first-person mystery adventure based on exploration and logical deduction.

User Reviews
I've never experienced anything else quite like Return of the Obra Dinn, this game is a must-play for anyone even remotely interested in mystery or investigation games. And PLEASE play it blind, I implore you.
It's good, am just kinda dumb and I lack patience. Slowly making my way though it, and so can you! You'll find a rewarding experience if you take the time
Return of the Obra Dinn is a brilliant, one-of-a-kind mystery game that completely pulled me in. The art style is strikingly unique, with a nostalgic monochrome look that surprisingly enhances the atmosphere. Solving the fates of the ship’s crew feels incredibly rewarding, like being a real detective piecing together a story without hand-holding. It’s smart, immersive, and unlike anything I’ve played before. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys puzzles and narrative-driven games.
Phenomenal visual detective game with an amazing OST that perfectly unravels the story of what happened on the Obra Dinn from a backwards narrative. 100% try this game, even if you’re not into puzzle/detective games!
A Brilliantly Frustrating Mystery What works: - Inventive nonlinear storytelling. The chaos is compelling; each character has a story, and piecing them together is genuinely rewarding. - Unique 1-bit aesthetic gives the game a distinctive visual identity. What doesn't: - The same visual style that gives the game its flair also impairs function. Key details are often obscured in pixelated noise, turning observation into trial-and-error. - The deduction user experience is lacking. No tagging, no linking, no real support for structured deduction. You're pushed to take notes externally, which breaks immersion and flow. - Memory access is painfully restricted. No instant rewind, no quick access -- just slow, fixed sequences that interrupt your reasoning process. - Deduction logic is asymmetrical: the game expects you to match names to faces, but doesn't let you do the reverse. This makes logical inference more annoying than it needs to be. - Several solutions require guesswork or cultur...
This game makes my head hurt in a very bad way. I would recommend it to masochists and people of insanity, I hate puzzle games and I will never play one again. That being said the graphics are awesome, the story is a joy to follow, and figuring out what connects makes you feel like sherlock holmes. I'm Obra Dinning it
An absolute GEM. Return of the obra din gives you unique experience... i truely felt like a detective working on a mysterious case. The music & voice acting were spot on. If you're even a bit interested in puzzle and mystery this game is a MUST PLAY.
Incredible ambiance and intrigue, I was absolutely captivated by this game. A gem, and an absolutely must play! The visuals are very unique, and may drive some players away. To me it was distinctive and nostalgic, and only on a few occasions I felt that the 1-bit dithered style made it difficult just to precisely discern what was happening in front of me. Also, the music is top notch and it adds to the general atmosphere. Check out "Soldiers of the Sea" for an absolute surprise banger of a track.
There are a handful of video games I've played that I think are truly exceptional, in the sense that there are no other games quite like it, and there probably never will be another. Return of the Obra Dinn is absolutely one of these games. If you haven't played it, I encourage you to try it just to get a glimpse of a unique piece of art. Also the music SLAPS
