My Memory of Us

This is a very cute game, first and foremost, despite the themes being incredibly dark. But it also contains beautiful moments showing that discrimination is learned and not inherent in children. During the beginning of the story, I had this odd sense that it was supposed to be a very obvious metaphor for something. It took me an embarrassing amount of time to realise what it was referencing. To quote an achievement "Day to remember - play the game on September 1st". We can all learn from history, and we absolutely need to to avoid another tragedy like this one.

the feels... the gameplay / puzzle was good too.

Quest/adventure part of the game is undoubtedly 10/10: [list] [*] Setting is an alternate version of Poland during World War II turned into kids-friendly steampunk fairytale. The narrative might seem simple on the surface, but has emotional depth and strongly resonates; [*] Music is gorgeous and complements the atmosphere perfectly; [*] Interesting and unusual visual style: mostly noire/black-and-white with accented elements painted in red. [/list] But there is a fly in the ointment: the gameplay is platformer/quest hybrid, and platformer part is quite annoying. Specifically, some of side scroller/side shooter/stealth mini-games may challenge reaction speed. To make it worse, save checkpoints are not always well-placed: sometimes on failure you need to replay entire chapter from the beginning.
