About This Game
Passive Co-Op Multiplayer
As you adventure through Ashen, you'll occasionally encounter other players in a massive open world, akin to the passive multiplayer of Journey. It's up to you to decide how to deal with them - fight together against evil, invite them into your party or simply ignore them.
Souls with a Twist
Ashen is faithful to the "souls" genre of stamina-based combat, introducing players to a punishing yet satisfyingly vast world. But here’s the twist - no two gameplay experiences are alike. Whether you’re exploring bogs, investigating a fjord or pillaging an old palace, where you are at any given moment will dramatically alter the course of your adventure. It's a brutal open world; you're just living in it.
Creatures + Combat
Ashen has no shortage of dangerous encounters, from hostile enemies to indigenous creatures. You'll be rewarded for studying the environment and its inhabitants, planning your adventure rather than flying by the seat of your pants. The flora and fauna within the world aren't just fantastical; they're often fatal. Each confrontation, no matter how trivial, has potentially dire consequences.
Crafting is Key
As you discover survivors, you'll have the choice to invite them to your Town. But these aren't mere adventurers - they're potential collaborators, bringing a plethora of crafting skills, from blacksmithing to foraging expertise, in tow.
Story + Score
Famed fantasy author Mark Lawrence (The Broken Empire trilogy) and renowned band Foreign Fields collaborated closely with the development team at A44 to craft a cohesive and unique narrative and sound.

GAME KEEPS CRASHING EVERY 10SEC!!!!! PLS FIX IT
It's a stripped-down and streamlined souls-like. Combat is clunky and a bit shallower than many other games in the genre, but the art, exploration and overall vibe make up for it pretty well in my opinion. If you're looking for a chill souls-ish experience to go through with a friend, I'd recommend it.
I have alot to say, but basically watch a video on it and they can do it better than text. Fantastic visuals, the art style really took fear of the dark to heart. The bad parts are poor placement of enemies, unneeded mechanics that don't fit the genre, and just alot of things lacking where needed. For example, the dungeons feel like your actually exploring. Fantastic. The bad part of in most of the dungeons are shortcuts being sparse or poorly place, and lack of bonfires generally. This means death is far more punishing than other souls-like. That leads to tedium, and generally boredom. Basically, just watch a review, expect alot of the layout to be a Zelda inspired game that feels like at the last minute was changed to a souls-like and not tuned for it.
People who dislike this game are also mean to cats/dogs.
The game keeps crashing, i don't know how to fix it so i can't give it a positive rating. At least i didn't buy it as a standalone game, it came in a bundle. But it should still be playable.
I recommend this game if you want to get into the souls-like genre. It's really beautiful in its simplicity. It can be challenging but i found it more forgiving than other games in the genre. There's no "builds" that you have to worry about and the combat is very basic and can serve as an introduction into how to "get good" at souls-like combat (such as understanding stamina management, counterattack/punish windows and reading enemy attack patterns). You get more health and stamina by simply exploring the world and finding those upgrades or by completing the sidequests/main story quests. Often you'll have 1 main quest and somewhere around 2-4 side quests for each story section you're currently in, which are easily tracked with a simple character questlog menu and tracking via map markers. Any kind of other stat modifiers are done through finding better gear and through the relic/talisman accessory system. The mechanics for all this are very simply laid out and not difficult to figure o...
Fix this. It crashes every 10 seconds.
couldnt get the game to work and when i finally got it to work, it glitched out and shut down. product returned. ive played this game before, its decent but not great. i played it while taking a break from the dark souls series.
