The game has a lot of love gone into it, but I cannot recommend it as it's not only not up to your decisions on whether or not you succeed, but beyond that. Here's about 3 or 4 turns for me, after building up a good foundation: There's a sickness event on the board --- You've built 40 anti-sickness resource. The event had a literal 0 total power to my 40. Hover over it and it says I have 100% chance to get a good outcome. Alright, we're golden and we can focus on the rest. What's this? Oh no, most of your villagers have fallen sick! They are stunned for 10 days! ..... Why? ....... Oh no, and a fear omen is coming! Too bad you don't have anyone to stop the fear! One of your villagers became superstitious and raised fear and raises it another +1 permanently every turn! Oh no, 4 of your 6 villagers ran away and the other 2 are stunned for another 6 or 7 turns, and you're running low on food!!! That's fine because you still have 2 villagers left and you can make more - excep...

About This Game

DotAGE has deep worker placement mechanics inspired by board games.
Build your village and assign your workers to their daily tasks, grow crops, herd animals, bury corpses, forge tools, upgrade buildings, train professionals, and produce dozens of resources.
Take your time and think carefully before passing the turn!

The memories of the Elder are unclear, so each run will be different, with new buildings to discover. Play with more than 200 buildings, 30 professions, and 70 resources.
As you play, the memories of the Elder will come back, unlocking new game mechanics and content, such as new ailments, the mysterious VIPs, and new Elders!
Each turn, the Domains, the forces that govern the world, will unleash increasingly powerful events on your village.
From poison, to disease, to earthquakes, to kittens. Will you be able to survive them all and find out what is causing the apocalypse?

In addition to each run being different, the game has multiple difficulty levels, so pick the one that suits your playstyle.
Enjoy a relaxed turn-based town builder with its cozy graphics, or prove your mastery of the prophecy with the increasingly difficult mastery levels!

This game is a love letter to the games of my childhood, made with passion in 9 years in the little spare time I got by a single developer from Italy.
The music of the game is real medieval music, taken from the Montpellier Codex, rearranged by Luigi di Guida.
I hope you enjoy the world of Dotage!

User Reviews
dotAGE is a uniquely engaging blend of turn-based village simulation, survival roguelike, and worker placement strategy, wrapped in a charming pixel art aesthetic and a deep, deceptively complex design. Developed by solo creator Michele Pirovano over nearly a decade, the game takes inspiration from board games and classic city builders but adds an unpredictable, high-stakes edge through its roguelike elements. The result is a tense yet cozy experience that constantly challenges players to adapt and strategize while balancing resource scarcity, an evolving threat system, and the fragile lives of their villagers—called Pips. You play as the Elder, a prophet cast out from your homeland who has received visions of an impending apocalypse. Tasked with guiding a small group of Pips, your role is to build a sustainable settlement in a secluded valley while preparing for the disasters foretold by the mysterious Prophecy. Each turn represents a day, and your choices determine how your villag...
cute game ... graphics wise that is but don't be fooled! ... somehow somewhere I've got this feeling like the game is rigged against you ... I've almost completed the steps up to the final chapter and now I am cursed beyond anything I can do and that's on difficulty level 2/5! ... I'd love to see the developer face this, where did I go wrong? : ) thank you, sincerely for such an interesting puzzle game ... after this I will most certainly try again but this time with the easiest difficulty ... it would be nice if you could have saved on multiple milestones and I wonder if there's a way to analyze the moves we make so we're maybe able to beat the game
When the designer says this game rewards experience and strategy, she's absolutely right. Game 1, I lasted to around season 3. Game 2, I made it to turn 200. Game 3, I got utterly rocked during the Apocalypse. Game 4, I made it all the way through and defeated each domain. I'm eager to play again with the different elders and to see everything I unlocked along the way. The game's good. Keep at it.
This is one of the best games I've ever played.
v fun awesome
It's sick. Play it. Dude who made it is constantly updating it with cool shit to do. It's like a tamagachi village that grows, and it's legit one of the best strategy games I've played in years. Never felt too easy or too difficult and I played from start to finish without it ever feeling imbalanced. Every resource I produced was required. Every event felt relevant. Good game, sir.
After the initial confusion (and maybe frustration as in your first game might be unfair as you did not unlock anything yet) and spam of events, the game moves to be a very great game, and if your doom is "one more turn" you might not want to play this game, as it will be always "one more turn"
Let me start by saying that dotAGE is a wonderful game. It can be punishing at times (in a good way), but that feels like part of the point. This is a story about the journey and survival of a Pip Elder and their clan members. Who cross the ocean to a new promised land. As the player, you must establish a village while dealing with sickness, the weather, hunger, and the Pip’s various emotional states. All under the looming shadow of an apocalypse foreseen by the Elder. At its core, dotAGE is a city resource management game. The city-building and threat system progression remind me a bit of Frostpunk, but with roguelite elements. As your city expands, much of your focus will be on resource gathering, city planing, labor management, population growth, and tech upgrades. With each turn, seasonal and threat events draw nearer, requiring specific resources to overcome and prevent disasters. At times, you can choose rewards or penalties based on the outcomes of threat events. That s...
I enjoyed this game, it's fun and has a lot of personality. I'd say the games probably go on a little long, and it does get a bit repetitive, but it's really good to relax too. Oh and there's a bit too much micromanagement, but plenty of interesting things happen and it always feels like you're building towards something.
