BATTLETCH: A Beautiful Disaster That'll Steal Your Soul
The Verdict Up Front: This isn't a good game. It's ugly, boring, and feels like work. So why have I sunk 130+ hours into this digital hellscape? That's the real mystery here.
What Actually Works
Let's give credit where it's due—BATTLETCH nails the franchise atmosphere for fans (I'm not one, but I have always been appreciative of it). The game runs without major bugs, controls reasonably well, and holy hell is it addictive. Just not for any reasons! The story missions shine like diamonds against the rough. They're genuinely interesting, well-designed, and offer a welcome break from the monotonous grind that makes up 90% of your playtime.
The Skirmish Slog
Here's where things fall apart spectacularly. Those skirmish missions that'll eat most of your life? They're mind-numbingly repetitive. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. boils down to "wipe out everything!" (because SALVAGE) The mission variety is about as deep a...

User Reviews
The base game is good, but the mods especially Roguetech and Advanced make the game amazing. It might be old, but there is a great deal of depth here to enjoy.
Not quite true to the original tabletop game but close enough if you played with Ral Partha miniatures on paper maps in the 80s and 90s, you are going to love it.
Cons: The base game is not great. Excruciatingly long load times due to engine limitations. Pros: However, there are some mod options that make this an incredible game (albeit with even longer load times). The Battletech Extended (BEX:BT) mod is excellent for Succession Wars era play. Roguetech is absolutely phenomenal for Civil War era play. Company size deployments, vehicles, and even battle armor. Bottom Line: if you are tolerant of long lead times and are a Battletech fan, this game is amazing with either mod.
i like the story mode and your wifes panties
It lets you play 3 battles in 6 hours, amazing!
Big robots go brrrrrrrr
Get the BTA 3062 mod, and thank me later.
After 1389 hours of play time I will recommend this game. It is fantastic!
To start, I thought this was a good game for what it does. But the constant grind, getting nowhere fast and repetitive nature of the game can be taxing. As a long time fan of BattleTech, both on and off the PC, this game could have been so much more. It could have been the new MechCommander, but sadly, it falls very far short of that potential. Maybe next time.
