Wow, where to begin? When I first got my HTC Vive, I downloaded every free game, app and demo to check out in VR. All the free Video players were pretty good, but most were missing features that most people have come to expect. That's understandable, considering they were free. No complaints and thank you. So I decided to buy a better version with some more features and choose "StarPlayer VR" for $10. What a waste of money! Sure it has a couple of additional features that you don't see in the free players (like "Replay" and "A/B Looping", that sort of thing), but the picture quality was absolutely horrendous! I'm not talking about just a slight difference in picture quality. I mean the degradation was dramatically noticeable than all the other free versions! It was so bad, I figured something happened during the initial application download. So I uninstalled and deleted all folders and files, and reinstalled. Nope! The picture quality is just that terrible! You'll quickly see the diff...

Stream You tube 360 VR Videos in your headset, This is the only player on Steam that does this and is the key feature of this player, It does all the other stuff too like play from your hard drives, and it also has 3D backgrounds and environments to play with but streaming from you tube is perfect in 2k, It has a great search function and saves your searches to an easy clickable side panel for future searches, simply point at the search box with your vive controller and up pops a keyboard just like the Steam controller. To recap if you like to play VR video and do not want the hassle of downloading them then this is the player for you.
It's a neat and solid VR video player. Does what it advertises well. Points I like: -Video quality is great. -It works on Win7. -It's easy to use and has a simple and clean UI. -You can activate Vive's front facing camera by pressing the grip button. Quite handy when you want to grab your drink. -Its built in Youtube video search is pretty good. The result page provides a video's basic information such as like/dislike count, view count, and length. Very useful if you watch many Youtube videos. I definitely recommend it!
I really really wanted to be leaving a good review of this software but so far its been of no use. It wouldnt load any videos for the life of it, it loaded one once but that was it. People claimed the developer had amazing communication but upon sending an email, I was met with silence for two weeks. I'll be happy to change this to positive if I could just get in contact with the dev and figure out why its not loading anything.
Very easy to use and works great at streaming youtube 3D or 360 or 3D+360 videos. Needed an eye swap feature for some youtube 3D videos and the develpor responded quickly adding that feature. I've been waiting to purchase a VR video player that seems to handle everything and I am happy this is the one I ended up purchasing.
I have tried both the free Vive Video and Vive Cinema apps. StarPlayerVR takes the best features from both and combines them into an easy to use interface. I like that this is built off VLC Media player which I consider to be one of the best players out there. Aside from features, the big deciding factor to purchase the player was just how responsive the developer was. Before purchasing, I noticed the player was missing the ability to switch between audio tracks. I suggested the feature to the developer and it was added the very next day! The developer is extremely responsive and already planning to work on additional features I suggested. Here's a confirmed list of my suggestions posted today that are now on the roadmap: A button to turn the light in & out. Once menu hidden, the laser pointer should get out of sight. Allow user to adjust the screen's position Y. Allow user to Import custom skybox background. Add support to dvd disc. Add support to blu-ray disc. One thing tha...
Great developer support for this player has youtube search and a great theater mode. streaming youtube 360 videos. If you watch alot of videos this is the player for you.
Okay so watching the Overwatch League matchups works pretty well! You can't really read the player names with the headset resolution, but as long as you aren't caring about reading stuff on the stream then you're actually just fine. I'm gonna have to try watching more stuff in StarPlayerVR because it's just fun simulating that big screen experience. Suggestions I'd have are to change the interface for selecting settings, it's a little weird to have to go back to a playback video in order to change the scenery. That would help immensely when watching streams on the full desktop.
Nothing worked on my 1080 ti, really hope they can sort it out, because it does have promise
Best multimedia VR player there is. Oh, the dev is also very friendly !
