About This Game

Bimonia is one of the last Birdlings alive on this earth. The Birdlings see humans as sworn enemies, and Bimonia has been taught to kill on sight.

One day, Bimonia meets Tayo, a human child hunting in the forest. Bimonia fails to kill Tayo, and they instead become friends. Mother will be furious if she finds out, or worse, this relationship may cause tension between the two species to erupt.

The Last Birdling explores Bimonia and Tayo's fight for their friendship as the world threatens to tear them apart.

Unhack, the first game created under the InvertMouse name, was produced in 2012. That means The Last Birdling happens to be my fifth anniversary project. This game is a culmination of all the lessons I have learned through the past five years. Now, I would like to share with you several features available in The Last Birdling:

Dual perspectives:

The Last Birdling alternates between Bimonia and Tayo's perspectives. Follow their journeys from childhood to adolescence as they struggle to maintain their friendship against all odds.

Multiple endings:

There are 21 decisions to make throughout Bimonia and Tayo's journeys. Depending on their resolve, this story will conclude in one of five ways. Use the progress tracker to determine how to obtain every ending.

Glossary:

Dive into The Last Birdling's lore through the glossary page. Throughout your journey, you will find links that take you to relevant entries.

Thank you! I hope you will find the experience worthwhile.

This 7th visual novel from InvertMouse feature two female protagonists - a human girl Tayo and a Birdling girl Bimonia who encounter each other in the forest while in their childhood years and form an unlikely friendship. Amidst the backdrop of a massive fear and dislike of each other between humans and Birdlings after a war which left only Bimonia and her mother Lulululu as the last Birdlings alive and living near human habitation together with multiple grey shades of morality among humans and Birdlings, Tayo and Bimonia's friendship and survival will be put to the test in this thriller and horror visual novel over 21 chapters as Tayo and Bimonia grow up to adulthood and reach different phases of their lives. The game has plenty of save slots to allow different gameplay choices to be made during the game, with popup icons of a red/green feather and a portrait of Bimonia/Tayo to help players reach all the 5 possible endings where the number of red and green feathers required to reach ...

A fun visual game, interesting story with quite a few decision points. Can or will friendship overcome the history of their races For you to decide how the journey could go. The outcome at the end depending on choices made during the game. It is a short game but I'm certainly glad I played it. I also really liked the music tracks which did emphasise the story.

The Last Birdling is a fantasy story visual novel with multiple endings and choices to be made, set in a different world (with a mixture of east-meets-west). The story is narrated through two main POVs (Tayo, a human girl expert in archery and Bimonia, a young bird-like hybrid entity of a species that has been at war with humans) and your choices affect the relationship between the characters and how the endings will play out. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll skip that bit but, well, yep, better come in prepared as some bits, while not directly graphical, do contain some ghastly bits. Of course for fans of something like the Higurashi series, it's probably tame. In that regard, it shares a similar feeling as Cursed Sight (another work of the same dev, which I also recommend checking out), in that the world is definitely a cruel place and there are no magic tricks that can change that. There is a constant sense of foreboding, that something's not quite right and, well, stuff happe...

German further down... InvertMouse is celebrating 5 years existence with her best title. Wounderful Artwork, nice music and a tragic story about a forbidden friendship. It reminded me sometimes of Disneys "The Fox and the Hound". Seems like some aspects were inspired from it. Pro: - Cute Artdesign - Over 5 hour content - Ending requirements IN GAME and it keeps track of your choices. I want that more often in other VNs - No blind choices - Glossar included - Ear Animation of the Birdings (So cute ^_^) Contra: - No Voices PS: NO Yuri includes, just friendship _____________________________________________ Invertmouse feiert 5 Jahre mit ihrem bislang besten Titel.

The Last Birdling is not for the faint of heart. -My own being one of those. I had bouts of crying, shouting at my monitor and constantly feeling distressed and unnerved. The Last Birdling is part horror, part thriller and part love, and it’s up to you and your choices which will have the strongest impact on the 5 possible conclusions. Our two female protagonists in this fantasy fable is the birdling Bimona (Bibi), and the human Tayo (Yoyo). Birdlings are a humanoid race with many of the characteristics of birds, and them and humans don’t mix. In fact, a war, a few decades past, made humans kill out all the birdlings to the very brink of extinction. When Yoyo and Bibi have a chance meeting deep in the forest as kids, an unlikely strong bond and growing love takes hold of both them and our now branching story. -And it really is a great tale, in all it’s gory detail. With everything you’ll need from a great visual novel, from great music, really great art, lots of save spots, gal...

For all the beautiful art, music, and story this vn has to offer, I can not in good conscience recommend it. While the final reveal is certainly shocking, and explains the big question on all the characters minds, it plays into tropes you may find all to familiar in LGBT circles, bad ones, ones we all need to strive to leave out of our stories. Came super close to having amazing commentary on psychological trauma but fails to say naything meaningful. [spoiler] Or, to state it more clearly, the story is needlesly gritty, goes above and beyond to break it's characters, every ending is a downer, and the one ending where the girls live and escape falls super flat. Edit: And, in retrospect, it's quite ironic that a story that goes out of it's way to point out that TWO birdlings could barely survive off one hunting ground, completely ignores the fact that an ecosystem can't be susttained where an apex predator can only feed on another apex predator. One birdling would consume a single vill...

The last birdings tells a story of 2 children. A human girl named Tayo and a birdling girl named Bimona. In a world were both their species are sworn enemies, where despite this both children (ignorant to the feuds between both species) forms a bond with one another that last through out the years despite the odds stacked agaisnt eachother in their life. The game is very bittersweet, some would say it is outright depressing and yet it is also very well written and has a lot of emotional scenes. Our characters (especially our 2 MCs) are morally grey, flawed as they should be based on how they were raised and their situation. We see just how much both girls mean to eachother, we see why they care so much about eachother despite the odds stacked agaisnt them. Admitedly the story is not very long, you can finish it in less than 5 hours (depending on your reading speed) but condering the price I don't think it's much of a drawback. I would definately recomend this game to anyone who want...

In its core this game is a blend of some of the stronger Point&Click games and VNs here on Steam, mixed with an anime art style. If you have enjoyed VNs with multiple endings set in fanatsy worlds, this one could be for you. Initially drawn in by the defined art style and promising concept, this VN proved to be so much more. The story is unique compared to other works here on Steam and shines with its surprises and immersion. It combines both emotions and violence and offers surprising twists and shed tears. Both main characters have unique traits and are very round characters. Although some may not enjoy the concept of reading about the stories of young children and their development into adults, think about Telltale's The Walking Dead. Choices affect the characters' development and reveal different sides, which ultimately changes the ending. Be warned: There is no definite ending to this game. You'll have to live with your choices. A VN for everybody who enjoys the anime art sty...

I hardly write reviews but this game really needs some promotion and can't go left unsaid. The story starts sweet as they are young and exploring but soon throws you into choices that leave you thinking. I won't go into further detail as you should go in as blind as possible. The different endings depending on your choice are nicely fleshed out, worth to go through them. Certainly some of them threw a curveball, which was a pleasant surprise. My first playthrough was about 6 hours long, I think I'm a medium speed reader, and I finished the other endings in another 2 hours. You can skip the text automatically if you've already are familiar with the lines and it will stop whenever you stumble upon unread lines. Also the skip speed is really nice. Even if this Visual Novel isn't voiced the music is very ambient and amazingly fitting to every scene. What I found a nice little touch that whenever a part played out in the rain it would have rain sound for a few second and then it would di...
