Short version: 89%
Cadenza is a gripping murder drama packed into a spectacular hidden object game with an even greater soundtrack.
Long version:
'Cadenza: Music, Betrayal and Death' brings us back to New Orleans in the 1940s, to the age where jazz was still in full swing. However, when a ghostly saxophone player takes his revenge on her father, the game's protagonist quickly learns that the smooth tunes can also hide some dark secrets. Many hidden object games have excellent writing, but I think a short review like this is not enough to tell how good Cadenza is. It is a gripping crime mystery with a perfect pace that never breaks the game flow but also accompanies us from the first cut-scene to the end. Oh, and the soundtrack is just amazing, naturally. We have nothing to fear about gameplay either. The adventure-lite parts stay in the background just enough to let the two dozen excellent hidden object scenes and the varied puzzles shine. At least as long as we re...
Wow. A lot of folks in the HOG group love this game but no one has reviewed it. It's spectacular. The setting is different, New Orleans. And the game does have a kind of Big Easy feel to it. The puzzles are also different, so it adds a slight bit of difficutlty in gettting used to the game dynmics. Even though the hidden objects are rarely covered up they are not that easy to find. A fine use of color and shading and I did not feel the developers were cheating. The developers do play around with the HOG part of the game. Sometimes you find the picture object, some times you find the object by word and sometime you have to affix the oject to it relation. The only puzzle draw back is the one where you have to complete a picture by placing a color object over a black and while image. Most of the time this puzzle is easy but there are a few that were head scratchers. Hints to the rescue. Very nice story that was completely appropriate to its setting. The voice acting sadly is kind of ...
For a HOG, this is pretty good. It is hampered by the confines of its genre, but the soundtrack goes above and beyond to be actually good, and everything else is, you know, not awful! I'm also especially pleased that no one tried to remove nails with a set of pliers in this one, so someone on the team has at least been near a tool before.
Wow, this is one of the best hidden object games I have played, and I have played QUITE a few!. The music is phenomenal (oldtime jazz)! It has some very unique hidden object type puzzles along with the standard fare. The characters are interesting and developed with excellent voice acting. The graphics are super nice with great detail and vivid colors. This is the kind of game that makes me follow the developer. Well, if I wasn't already...
First off I want to say this is one of best HOG's I've played so far. I have a total of 26 under my belt so I know I'll probably find better out there but that game will have to do a lot to match the enjoyment I got playing this game. This game has the standard HOS but also throws in twist like one HOS has two silhouettes talking to each other and you have to interpret their conversation and find the object inferred. Brilliantly done and done within the evolving story. Also done within the story were puzzles that featured a black and white picture with one colored object that you had to place in the correct location in the picture which colored a section and gave you more background story which was narrated. You did this until the picture was completely colorized. Some of these were easy but some of them had you thinking to make the connection. Most of the puzzles were on the easy side but not too easy and that was OK by me. I'm not going to say anything to give away the story ...
💯
DISCLAIMER: Play time is not taking into consideration dinner and hot tub break folks. STORY: Interesting – EVEN MORE New Orleans jazz scene shenanigans. Musical score is jazz centered and cool, cool, cool. GRAPHICS: Nice, a step up from years gone by TRAVEL: Includes map that lists things to do or objectives to accomplish. Allows teleportation. MECHANICS: Typical HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES are not classic conventional but a mix of require you to interact with various objects to obtain others, riddles, wood cuts etc. MINIGAMES are at time simple and other challenging. BONUS FEATURES usual LENGTH: Depends on player – this is a good game for an afternoon/evening. ACHIEVEMENTS: if you’re a seeker there are plenty here. VOICE ACTING: For this genre it was pretty acceptable FYI…Stay for the credits – they are very amusing with each member of the team providing a personal comment.
Really Great HOG! music and puzzles are engaging and grateful for the colourful characters too.
Loved the jazz music, atmosphere & the in-depth storyline. Very unique! The HOG scenes are excellent with lots of variety in the things to locate & ways to find them. For example matching pairs & combining things. In fact, the HOG scenes are like their own self contained mini games! Great fun. The puzzles are 75% absurdly easy and 25% moderate, normally I prefer a bit more of a challenge. I like that the bonus chapter used new scenes, I find it lazy programming when bonus chapters repeat scenes. Despite the easy puzzles, those awesome HOG scenes made up for it. A good game overall. UPDATE: After the game is over, check the extras for more minigames and help the music shop owner rebuild his shop! Nice touch & happy ending! :)
