About This Game

The Promethium armada is headed to Earth, leaving a toxic trail of destruction in its wake. Commander Braybrook, it is your mission to take up the experimental deep space fighter and stop the armada before it reaches us - YOU ARE OUR ONLY HOPE!

INSPIRED BY C64 AND ARCADE CLASSICS

Inspired by classic Commodore 64 and arcade games, Promethium is a hard-as-nails retro inspired side-scrolling shoot-em-up that takes place over numerous levels that get harder and harder. If you’re after a nice calm casual game, this isn’t it!

Gameplay

Fly left and right over the Promethium armada ships. They have shield generators protecting them. Hover over a shield generator to hack and disable it. Once all the shield generators are disabled a self destruct code will be sent to the armada ship causing it to explode. Be careful though, the armada ships are guarded by a fleet of fighters!

Power-ups

Destroy enemy ships and collect the power pods they drop. These power pods are like cash, they allow you to buy power-ups.

The available power-ups are displayed at the bottom of the screen. The power-up you can buy is highlighted in orange. Every time you collect a power pod the next power-up becomes available to you. Some power-ups are single use, some are multiple and some are timed. Experiment to find your perfect combination.

Controls

Promethium can be played on a joypad or if you're really brave and have the reflexes of a Ninja Cat then you can use a keyboard. I'd really recommend a Joypad though, this game is tough enough as it is.

Use any analog stick or the d-pad to control the experimental fighter, or in keyboard mode use WSAD or cursor keys to fly.

You can fire using any of the triggers, bumpers or the 'B' button on Xbox 360 or Xbox One controllers and the 'O' button on the Dualshock controller. If you are in keyboard mode you can press the space bar to fire.

You can buy the current power-up by pressing the 'A' button on Xbox 360 or Xbox One controllers and the 'X' button on the Dualshock controller. If you are playing using a keyboard then any key other than WSAD, Space or the cursor keys will allow you to buy the current power-up - I'd suggest the return key is a handy one.

Whoa. Nice indie shooter. The operative word here is succinct. The vertical and horizontal bounds of the play-field are limited and your ship is able to traverse both left and right. The background is the Promethium armada ships in which your objective is to blow up each ships shield generator. The operative component, of course not explained anywhere, is the pick-ups dropped on enemy kill, essentially currency and there lies the depth. There are a string of power-ups lining the bottom of the play field. For every pick-up the string advances one and hence you can choose to make a real-time purchase of the highlighted power-up. Some power-ups are one use, though some like the first icon speed have multiple levels. The buy button on the Xbox controller was A and you can use an invariable number of buttons to shoot. Enemy patterns at least through the first few levels are somewhat if not totally static though I didn't find this to be an issue. The rest of the package has a s...

Fun shoot um up, simple but tough, one hit kills you (unless you save up and buy a shield). Took me a few goes to figure the power ups out. Enemies drop blue canisters, when collected the power up items are selected. If you collect 4 canisters then item four is selected and so on, you can purchase the current item by pressing A. It is possible to speed run through the level or take your time killing all of the enemies and getting as many power ups as possible. Some power ups can be upgraded multiply times. To complete the level you stay hovered over an area while a progress bar fills up. ** Play time is about 3-4 hours, it says "21.5 hrs on record" but I had the game paused over night :D **

This is a cracking shooter that takes me back to playing games like Uridium on the Commodore 64. I am not going to lie - this is a hard game, hard like games were when I was a kid 25 years ago. There is no easy route to being good, you just have to practice and learn the patterns and for me, that is what makes this so great. It is a love letter to early 90's shooters. It feels like I remember those games feeling and it looks like I wish they looked. Great stuff and an absolute bargain!

GTX 1060 (6GB) Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcLNiK9aBKM My Thoughts: One of my 1st ever computers was the C64 and one of my favourite 'all time' games was 'Uridium' Therefore I could not resist this. However, I would have liked to see a lot more variety in enemies, random attack waves, and formations. I have a lot of fond memories and hours invested in 'Uridium' and sadly this felt lacking in a lot of areas. I was hoping and expecting a lot deeper gameplay if I'm honest. This might be a poor mans clone but for the price I can't complain. Hopefully 'Promethium 2' will be more like the original 'Uridium' I was looking for. Uridium has never been so much tedium.

It's old-skool difficult, at least with keys which is what I played it with.

Bought this hoping for a modern take on Uridium. Unfortunately this isn't it. - Glitchy - moving to the top or bottom of the screen whilst holding UP or DOWN respectively causing the screen to stop scrolling until you release the movement direction. - Controls - default controls are terrible layout compared to other scrollers (have to fire with analog triggers ratehr than digital buttons, which interfers with ROF), with no ability to remap - Gameplay encourages slow movement, whereas Uridium was all about moving at high speed across a dreadnought that was littered with barriers to crash into, and mine generators to keep you dodging.

Do you like shooting things while not being shot? Do you have enough money for a coffee? Then buy this game.

Great little Uridium style shooter. Enjoying myself, and at the price point it's hard not to recommend. I really love the look of the giant ships, pew pew.

As a HUGE fan of Shmups, Promethium really appeals to me. It does remind me ever so slightly of Defender, but thats probably due to it's horizontal play-style. Graphics are gorgous and the music and SFX fit the game very well. I especially like the way powerups are awarded and activated. This game really shoud be priced higher than it is for pure play value alone! Great job Xiotex!
