I haven't played Chicago 1930 in 2004, but I love good old games. Escpecially such isometric camera and graphics. What we have here? It is a tactical game with optional pause about gangsters and police. You can choose your team members, upgrade their stats. The interesting thing is that you have 2 opposite campaigns. At first you have to get whole city under your mafia control. Then you will play as FBI agent that starts investingation (first level is very different from previous gameplay, feel yourself as a detective) and at the end frees Chicago from mafia's hands. Game is interesting, with different mechanics for each of campaings. Surprisingly it works well on W10, I even got 1080 resolution at first launch already. If you played Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood - you will be in a familiar place :) Overall, I can recommend Chicago 1930 for everyone who likes such style of gameplay and that classical isometrical look :)

Good old classic. P.S. Game works fine for me on Windows 10.
Better than Mafia 3. Small with big resolution, but everything is fine.
The concept is there and it's a good one. But it feels and plays like it's incomplete. Enemies don't react in a rational manner. Most of the time they are only staring at you. Like they are waiting for you to gun them down or knock them out. ' Overall the way they behave and react is all over the place. Sometimes it works. Most times it just doesn't. And I found no viable patch or fix. So yeah, I'm sad to say that I cannot recommend it.
Just another good classic poorly optimized for modern machines
It's a broken port. It may seem fine at first, but you will see the problems real soon. Like a guarantee character selection bug: you can't change your team unless one of them is dead; if you try to replace your current team with new guys and new equipment, when you start the mission you will see all the guys from the previous mission but now with empty inventories, and it can't be fixed. Most of the time it works normal but crashes and glithes happen from time to time. You can't buy this game on GOG, so your best option is getting your hands on the original release and run it on a virtual machine with windows XP.
As much as I love this game, I played it years ago. I can't recommend it, it is full of bugs, glitches, freezes. impossible to proceed to the next level, it goes back to a different part of the game instead, this happening in later missions of the mafia levels. selecting game characters and weapons is meaningless the game resets your choices. without a good patch, it is useless.
I have no idea which stupid idiot decides to publish this game in this condition but seriously - I'm impressed. I just don't know how it is possible to bug game without bugs. How you can fuck up selecting characters is just unanswerable. To change the guys you literally have to kill someone in the mission and hope that game will not select automatically another one by itself. Overall I love the game - but CD version not STEAM edition. Bought it only because CD version doesn't work on anything above XP and I just couldn't record it with FRAPS on XP. If you need to record it or if you have Vista or newer... You have to buy it... Unfortunately... But if you just want to play and you have access to PC with something between 98SE and XP than just find and buy CD version.
Well, I feel very mixed about this release. For today standards the game can feel a bit archaic, but it's still very good and challenging. It's not as good as Commandos or Desperados [AI can sometimes do some weird things], but overall I got some really good time with it. But I can't recommend the steam version. Numerous glitches and bugs bites your ass every few minutes. You are basically locked with your team members and can't change them [game is always reseting your roster at the begining of the mission], dynamic music change sometimes works, sometimes you need to pause the game for it to work, surprise freezes and error on some of the missions [heard that people got crashes on Mafia mission 2, i got it on mission 5, basically making it impossible to finish]. The game can't be patched correctly, doing so you are forced to reinstall. And it's such a shame, because Chicago 1930 by itself is solid and atmospheric [very pulpy comic book feel] game. Until it's on GOG try to find used ph...
After Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood in 2002 Spellbound felt adventurous enough to scrap the idea that a RTT requires unique characters with different interactions that play off of each other and are contingent to completing a level. The strategy is still there (vision, stealth and ammo management) and it even has a cool-yet-not-needed-to-win-a-level type of "pick your own squad" RPG feature like the older Might and Magic games. The pro strat is to use Jack Beretto (the Green Beret of this game if you will) while selecting any other goon to simply carry ammo for him as he has the barebones necessary skills of... stunning... and tying up enemies while also shooting. The game is still fun but I feel like one should feel and take a more cynical approach to these type of games especially since good ones are a rarity. I honestly feel pretty scared to properly try out the 2 sequels to Desperados because of this (Helldorado and Cooper's Revenge).
