Chrono Trigger — The Timeless Masterpiece Chrono Trigger isn’t just a game, it’s the game. The one that crawled out of the SNES cartridge slot, grabbed my childhood by the throat, and said: “This is what perfection feels like, kid.” Every single pixel, every single note of that god-tier soundtrack, every single frame of Akira Toriyama’s character designs is etched into my soul like a sacred scripture of gaming. This isn’t “one of the best RPGs of all time.” No. This IS the best RPG ever made. Nothing before it touched it, and nothing after it has surpassed it — not Final Fantasy, not Persona, not Baldur’s Gate 3, not even the triple-A budget behemoths of today. Chrono Trigger is the apex predator of RPGs, sitting on a mountaintop of nostalgia while the rest of the industry stares up in awe. The multiple endings? Forget what you know about choice-based games today. Chrono Trigger had the BEST multiple endings in gaming history — from tragic, bittersweet fates ...

User Reviews
One of the most perfect video game i've ever played in my life and an influential role model for video game medium.
Really enjoyed this classic; as an RPG lover, I heard this was a must-try, and I must say old is gold. That lovely pixel art and the classic "save the princess" paired with an active battle system which breaks the traditional RPG style – this is just another game that you will play and just immerse yourself in. But don't let this game fool you. Chrono Trigger does not hold your hand; you will find some battles difficult, and you will strategise, but don't let that distract you from what I like to call "a classic RPG". The reason I am not recommending this game is because at the end of the day, what worth does a good game hold if the game is not in a playable state? This game crashes for me at certain intervals, and looking at other reviews, I am not the only one. Buy at your own risk.
30 years since it's release, Chrono Trigger still holds up as a gorgeous and engaging time bending JRPG. Some flaws in getting this port to run however, but I've shared my workaround to get past the black screen that follows the opening cutscene. To get it to run - Open NVIDIA Control Panel Go to Manage 3D settings Click on programme settings and add Chrono Trigger into the "Select a Program to customise" box Select High Performance NVIDIA processor and save. For some reason the game wouldn't run for me when I pressed Auto Select in global settings, but this (so far) seems to be a workaround. Hope it helps!
Unstable framerate and poorly implemented "high resolution" mode. Tiles were upscaled without a thought of how they fit with other tiles, making them look disjointed, and weapons are still pixelated in the high res mode. Also, the original aspect ratio is scrunched down to fit into 16:9, effectively cutting off the top and bottom of the screen and making the pixels larger than the SNES version. eek! You can't make a better argument for piracy than this. I have to play at least a few minutes in any emulated version after every PC session to cleanse my brain. EDIT: Use MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server to limit the FPS to 60, that will smooth out the framerate.
The base game is a timeless JRPG masterpiece, but I'd say the PC port is very poor. (I mean, what can you expect from SE? lmao) The game crashes every time an animated cutscene plays. I had to skip them manually. (Despite the fact that the animation is good.) Also, the colours in the PC version look very different to those in the SNES version, so you might prefer to get the SNES version.
A masterpiece. Thank you for everything, Toriyama-sensei🙏
This is the single best JRPG of all time
An unforgettable mix of time-travel storytelling, charming characters, and an amazing soundtrack. This version is the definitive way to experience a timeless classic on modern hardware.
Banger classic with time travel done right ✨
