You and your band of DEI hires saves an island from evil that are hwite colonizers. Game is decent despite politicly correct bludgeoning at every opportunity.
Remember how Spiders were known as 'Bioware at home', and 'Bioware's poor cousins'?.. I believe, that a review from 2019 me could have been different, but as of 2025, after living through Andromeda, Anthem and Veilguard? I can 100% recommend this game, because it's so much more 'Bioware' than all of those mentioned titles combined. It's far from perfect. The 'open world', which only works, if you follow the quest markers, reused locations, awkward not-really-RTWP-but-not-an-action combat, horrible stealth etc. Still, if your're looking for coherent storytelling, interesting setting, decent characters, and a game that actually reacts to your player choices, then go for it...Just keep in mind, that you're supposed to be a diplomat, and you're expected to talk to other people, a lot. That's not a flaw or an oversight, that's a core gameplay. ;)
An awfully repetitive and boring game. At first it doesn’t seem too bad, but the deeper you get, the worse it becomes. And the low budget is impossible to ignore — they didn’t even try to hide it with any sort of artistry.
On my second playthrough and this game has a special place in my heart. The story is excellent and the dialogue is well thought out and the characters are engaging, For all the complaints I've seen about the combat it is actually pretty fun - and in a way more realistic - yes you have to stop for 2 seconds to drink a potion - but that is actually perhaps more realistic than just having it for free. The limits to crafting and ability are nice so you don't just get to be broken instantly (unless you play mage which is super strong) make it challenging. Also to those who are like - oh yeah they resued the same map/npc etc - honestly it is crazy impressive they made this happen with the quality of the voice acting and smoothness/lack of bugs on the non existent budget that they had. Looking forward to playing the Technomancer and hoping Greedfall 2 lives up to the story of Greedfall.
The concept of this game was good. You can be anything you want either a brute, technician spellcaster, diplomat or just doing chaos around. But the lack of mount and fast travel make this game a walking simulator in the late game.
"Comparison is the thief of joy" they say, but what happens when you're struggling to finish an RPG, struggling to like it, and then you give up and follow with another, different RPG, that actually engages you and makes you want to do every single side quest? Well, you see the first one for what it was: mostly a flawed mess with some great ideas there and there. There are things to like about Greedfall. I thought combat was really fun (using guns was particularly satisfying to me), the skill tree system goes deep and made me want to theorycraft, and some character interactions, notably with your companions, were great. But to me most of the game felt like tedious filler to get to the good part (combat). You can't actually mess around with the skill trees, because there's no easy way to reset and it doesn't only reset the skills anyway, but your equipment too. The world quickly feels really empty, save for the occasional group of animals you have to mow down, and it's basically a wal...
I originally obtained this on console and despite how unknown the game is, I'm extraordinarily happy I discovered it and played it. I bought for the second time Greedfall on steam for PC and have discovered so much more than my original playthrough; the best part of this game is the lore and story. Although the enemy variety is constrained due to budgetary reasons, the combat and skill trees do their best to make it fun. Interiors and exteriors are reused in certain places but that is not to the detriment of the semi-open world; the open-world is similar to Bloodborne by From Software or perhaps 2018's God of War, but is totally expansive, has hidden artifacts and secret quests, and is totally explorable. What truly makes up for what the game lacks, is the story and lore. The story, dialogue, writing, lore, and worldbuilding of Greedfall is comparible, and in many cases exceptional, to games you'd consider Triple-A that cost upwards of $70. I can't express enough how great the world is...
I have always been in love with action RPG games (Diablo, looking at you) and was looking for a new game. A friend from work recommended it and I like it instantaneously. After playing it, I realized it was more than just an action RPG, it has a good story - very original - , cool sidequests and OK gameplay, which is the only complaint I have about this game: it lacks a little bit of polishing, which we can find in (some) AAA games. But, that's the thing people with narrow views have the nasty habit of forgetting: it is a AA game, from a small studio. So, it's OK to lack some details, given their resources. Then, the game starts to resemble a mixture of Dragon Age Origins and The Witcher 2 in terms of the political intrigues, sotrylines and choices (really cool ones, I might add). Absolutely loved how they threw in the factions some religious and scientific views and how they behave within the world of Greedfall. I mean, what's not to like? All in all, stop reading this review, buy...
I started this game on the recommendation of folks online while looking for something to play that was similar to my favorite franchises, Mass Effect and Dragon Age. I don't think this game lives up to those titles but it was enjoyable enough to fill my time. I think the story was cohesive and the game play was interesting. I specifically like that you can technically face any enemy at any level and still defeat higher-level enemies with the right strategy. My dislikes of this game really come from it not being quite as robust or profound as my other franchises but it's a good game in itself. I do wish the romances were a little more fleshed out and I wish the conflicts in-game had a little more nuance. I also do feel the endings were a little too feel-good and perfect with entire countries changing their entire culture and belief systems based on your whim. I like it enough to have my interest piqued by the second game that's releasing next year, especially since you'll be able to pla...
