After being disappointed with Jedi Fallen Order, I remembered that I hadn't played Jedi Outcast, a game highly regarded for its lightsaber combat. And it was very fun! The game starts like a pure FPS until Kyle Katarn gets his lightsaber, then you discover a fluid and intricate melee system. Instead of preset damage values (like, for example, a light attack dealing 20 damage, a heavy attack dealing 50 damage etc) it calculates damage based on penetration depth and speed, making positioning and angling crucial and revealing a high skill ceiling, especially in multiplayer. In single-player, it is much more forgiving, and you can relish the power fantasy of mincing dozens of stormtroopers and pushing them into pits. I recommend binding force powers to individual buttons, because the default "previous-next" list is clunky to use. Level design is mostly great, with interesting locations and cool set pieces, although it can get confusing at times. I never got really stuck, but at some point...

I grew up playing this game on older windows setups and this right here is PEAK star wars gaming. Nobody can tell me otherwise.
**** you, Disney.
Fzzz, pzzzz, kssszz. pew. Damn, this game is noisy. :D A lot noisier than Jedi Academy, anyway. Just kidding. It's pretty awesome, though it has very different pacing, too. Plenty more puzzle and platforming as opposed to JA's straight up action. Not as fun, since you can't pick your skills and fighting styles / weapons.
this game aged so badly for me. just playing it to finish again with little to no fun. although gonna finish jedi academy again after this game too. :D:D
Surprisingly fun despite its age. If you're a star wars fan that wants to check out a fun pre-disney expanded universe game, i check it out.
More than 20 years later, I'm still a sucker for the action and puzzles of Jedi Knight II. The 3d graphics are dated, but I find that aesthetic appealing now.
absolute cinema of a game
One of the best Star Wars games out there - scratch that, a classic full stop. Have played this game so many times in the past 20 years - this and Jedi Academy are absolute gems.
