About This Game

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a new era of the addictively unforgiving extraction shooter. In corrupted backwaters lost to history, fight back alone – or with friends – against timeless evil. Twisted monsters and other ruthless Hunters stand between you and your Bounty. Risk everything as Hunt consumes you.

Take rich bounties and kill anyone that tries to stop you – and they will try. Race competing Hunters to track down bosses, send them to hell, claim their bounty, and fight your way to extract. If others only slow you down, go alone. If you find strength in numbers, take up to two teammates along.

Risk everything to unlock dark powers and forbidden wealth. Every bullet counts. Every wound hurts. And every death is permanent. But if you succeed, every victory will be unforgettable.

Hear footsteps squelch in the mud as you wait with bated breath to strike. The world speaks. Every gunshot is a message; every howling dog a klaxon. Gramophones murmur with the haunting melodies of Port Sulphur Band. Listen, and you might live to die another day.

Keep striving for more, the world is always growing. Frequent updates challenge you with new Events, expand your arsenal of weapons, introduce new characters, and offer the chance to get ornate rewards. Join the thriving Hunt community, stay informed, and get an edge over the Corruption.

The atmosphere is fantastic and I really wish I could enjoy this game. Unfortunately, the matchmaking is broken and most new players will not have the time nor patience to reach any level of competency as they repeatedly die to the dwindling player base of highly seasoned veterans.

Developers do not care about player feedback so wasting my time at this point. - The UI is still terrible. Far worse than it was a few years ago, we've put up with it for long enough now. - Servers still are not region locked. Be prepared to play against players from China to the USA. - For some reason we're not allowed to pick map or weather types. So you better be happy taking a sniper then it being useless in the fog or getting the dogsh*t 'verticality' map on repeat - Matchmaking is abysmal. Something strange going on when the best streamers on the game regularly queue into 4 star players but I am constantly queueing against 6 stars - Being able to rejoin a game after disconnecting is a dice roll. Sometimes the map will just not load in. It isn't all negative, we at least get to play at post malone in game... oh okay maybe it is all negative then. The core of the game is fantastic but I'm unable to recommend it currently when the developers appear to ignore player feedback or t...

The game was great, but has become a joke. The biggest problem for now is cheat infestation and the fact that the devs are simply not interested in fixing real problems. You can report the same players over and over again. You can send videos to prove your point, but the devs just don't care. You will still get the same 'multiple VAC-banned' player the next day. Yes, they updated the graphics, but other problems are piling up.. Hit detection is one of the worst I've seen. Maybe it's the servers, maybe it's the netcode, I don't really care. Still no region lock/server picking. I get cheaters/ping abusers from china every other match (not to mention communication problems). I'll probably step on someone's toes now but self revive is such a bs mechanic ruining the game.. we did not need necro to begin with. Same with fanning/levering. Why so many rapid-fire weapons and mechanics? The game was pretty great when mosin or conversion were actually useful. If you asked me 3 years ago,...

A lot of reviews here misrepresent this game.... any of the negative reviews about developers, maybe true, but the game still is the best game for an adrenaline rush there is. any of the reviews that say the game is hard to get used to or is to hard to understand, that reivewer just wants to point and click to get stimulated. this game is about the hunt, the chase, the survival. and it is awesome. play 40 hours and you will start to get the hang of it. get good headphoens and imerser yourslef

A Eulogy for What Once Was I’ve been here since the beginning—back when Hunt: Showdown matches felt like a survival horror masterpiece. Today, it’s still unique, but something fundamental has shifted. 1. The Meta Has Replaced Creativity There was a time when Hunt rewarded ingenuity. A well-placed shot from a Springfield or a derringer ambush could turn the tide. Now, it's dominated by a handful of "meta" loadouts, almost all shotgun-based. The devs’ approach to balance—tying weapon effectiveness to price—only works on paper. In practice, anyone past the 20-hour mark swims in Hunt Dollars. Not even talking about long-lasting veterans sitting on 50K since Bush administration. As a result every match devolves into Auto-5, Slates, and Terminus handcannons with slugs. The Romero, once a proud budget king, might as well not exist. Worse, the "just adapt" argument falls flat when the optimal strategy is always bring the highest price shotgun. Hunt used to be about improvi...

Nearly every FPS game is nothing but cheating hacking aim-bot or esp losers.. you can call it skill problem, you can call it whatever you like but the numbers DON'T lie..those who deny it anymore are the cheaters themselves. No one and i mean no one, even professionals are this good at any game.. Now that Its every game you play its one person who can wipe out whole teams not missing a single shot.. as a technology specialist ill be the first to apologize on our behalf but i cant fully.. how can the majority be so insecure, such a loser the one thing you do all the time which is game how can you ruin it for everyone pretend your "good" when its so obvious.. some of the real pros are even quitting due to this exact thing being an issue in their own tournaments.. make sense of it?? without gaming what are you? bring back anti-cheats please or people can easily start demanding loads of money back because the companies DO have an obligation to prevent this. Google it yourself and the nu...

Hunt: Showdown is the only extraction shooter i can play without suffering an aneurysm from frustration. Every other extraction shooter / battle royale game i've ever tried i hated with a passion. They're frustrating and don't feel worth it for me. You spend so much time running around aimlessly only to encounter someone who melts you down in a second from an AR and go back to the menu to repeat the cycle. In this game, while this frustrating game design is still of course a problem for me, and it can still feel very frustrating at times, due to the slower overall pace and old time-y nature of the weapons, as well as a bunch of other design decisions, it generates actually fun and interesting fights frequently and consistently. Plus you have actual objectives to complete when running around the map in between fights, so you don't feel aimless. Couple that with the incredible atmosphere and aesthetic, the insanely good sound design, the music, the weapon feel, etc., and you get the b...

The setting, environment and sound of Hunt is fantastic, the maps are full of little details that add to the air of a rotten bayou that is falling to corruption. The thrill of the hunt was there - carefully avoiding the sound traps and grunts so as not to give your position away before you took your shot - even in duos the feeling of hunting players was there in the begining; every gun fight was tense, thrilling and unforgiving. The current state of the game feels like hunt is at war with itself - and slowly loosing the very thing that made it unique, the desire by the devs to speed up the game play, adding traits that remove the risk of the hunt ( the almost constant 'events' giving multiple ways to fully restore health bars lost and taking to 3 slot weapons etc), the full restoration for Solo necro removes some of the thrill and tension of hunting solo - as well as slowing teams down because now you have to fully burn the solo to stop them coming back at full health. All the gimmick...

The game is a fantastic game, really. It's a blast to play. The gameplay loop is refreshing and fun, it's a breath of fresh air from more hyper-shooters and battle royales like Apex and COD. However, I cannot recommend this game for one simple reason, which plagues many other games similar to this one. It is plagued by its community. The ones that demand a meta, that change gameplay standards and suck all the enjoyment out of the possibility of something being different for once to make it at close to a hyper, fast-paced shooter, and unfortunately, the devs fall for the gigantic blunder of bending to it's community so that they keep a player-base and get more money. It was fun for a long time, well before the 1896 update, but it loses it's fun FAST when you get matched against players who ruin all the chances of fun to get every millimeter of advantage you could possibly squeeze out of it. This game was meant for methodical approaches and slow gameplay where any shot can b...

It's simply not worth the effort for the average person. This game is a near-impenetrable brick wall of knowledge and experience that will actively crack you over the head and break your kneecaps every time you attempt to learn anything. Every lesson will be learned on the back of wasted in-game currency and about 30 minutes of your life that you can never get back. The playerbase is chock full of seasoned, 1000+ hour veterans just waiting for an opportunity to blend you into a fine paste for having the audacity to try to actually enjoy yourself. The matchmaking is so poorly put together, and the pool of players so small, that you will inevitably be put up against entire squads of players infinitely more knowledgeable about the game than yourself. You will get one-tapped with a weapon you didn't know existed from a bush that you didn't even see by a guy that's never seen a vagina, time and time again, until you eventually just give up and go do something more productive with your time....
