Just another Level 5 game, the same as all the others. Did you like Dark Cloud? or Rogue Galaxy? This one is not any worse (or better) than those. Random dungeons, long empty hallways, lots of weapons that all do the same but have different numbers, a very wide array of time sinkers and little depth anywhere. I played on hard and had a quite relaxed experience, I even ignored mechanics like the elements on battle and yet had no problems with the fights. The game expects you to abuse items since you get way too much money anyway. I saw some complaints about the AI of your party members (since you can only control one of them at a time) but honestly they don't play worse than me. At some points I dedicated myself to only dodge the boss attacks and they defeated the boss by themselves so... they are just fine. My main complaint would be that there are hundreds of items (for crafting, for eating, to give to your higgledy, etc) and you pick them up constantly. I never knew what I was pic...

did you like Ni No Kuni 1? well bad news, this is nothing like that. the only thing it has in common is the world-ish and art style. the story is bland, boring and predicable. Combat is generic and characters feels really sluggish. late game combat is weirdly punishing despite keeping your gear and levels up to snuff. The city management is by far the worst part of this game. it adds nothing and forces you to either play or AFK the game, but you cant alt tab it since the game forces a pause when not focused. either buy it heavily discounted or just pass. its boring, bland, a waste of time and tries to pad out the late game with an insane amount of "go here and talk to person" side quests. really disappointing knowing what the first game was.
Maybe the worst RPG i've played, i'm so glad i got it in a bundle and not for 60 euros. There was so much to keep from the first game and there is almost nothing appealing in this one Played 8 hours so i can't say much about the story but damn the characters are uninteresting it's insane, Evan is your typical idealist 12 years old boy, which i'm ok with in this kind of story, i knew what i was going into, but Roland give up in going back to his world in 4 seconds, Tani and Batu are inexistant, and Lofty the supposed kingmaker is not even a good side character. Music is bland and sometimes even not fitting the place, the world is boring, there is loot everywhere, you can't just watch what's around you without seeing glowing stuff on the ground, and even when there is not, it has nothing wonderful like the 1st game. World map is ugly, nothing else to say, too much monsters to fight for whatever loot and if you are lucky a weapon and if you are lucky again it will be better than what y...
First of all, the artstyle is beautiful and the game looks fantastic on the Steam Deck. Also, the soundtrack is quite good and I enjoyed all of the musical cues and themes. Unfortunately, this is where my praise of the game ends. Is it as good as the first Ni No Kuni? No, no it isn't. Have I put more than 100 hours into this game? Yes, yes I have. Will I put too many more hours into the game to 100% it? Yes, yes I will. Should you do the same? No, no you shouldn't.
I've played this game before and its my favourite game by far. The open world gives you so much to do and the story is good as well. I would highly recommend :)
i only played around 1.5 hours of ni no kuni II so far, and honestly i wasn’t sure what to expect. the only jrpg i’ve played before was persona and im not used to jrpg/jryo games so i came in pretty much blind. but to my surprise i’m actually having a really good time with it. the combat feels really fun and satisfying! fast, flashy, and a little addictive in that “just one more fight” kind of way. it actually reminded me of when i used to play on my nintendo ds as a kid, that same cozy, exciting feeling of exploring a colorful world and discovering new things. the art style is super cute, the music fits really well (joe hisaishi <3), and it just has that playful, magical vibe that makes it easy to sink into. makes me wish i had a nintendo switch so i could play this curled up in bed or on the go, because it feels like the kind of game that would be perfect for that. when i finish the game, i’ll update this review.
This is a true masterpiece game RPG with so many mechanics and breathtaking graphics. The main story is a reasonably enjoyable, not too time consuming experience.
The town management and city building is so unnecessary. It killed the fun for me and some Sidequest require items from the town management city building BS. 5/10, dropped at Mausinger boss fight after coming back from putting the game on hold for a long time.
10 out of 10 holds up extremely well in 2025
When I first played this game a few years ago, I wasn’t entirely sure it was for me. However, revisiting it in 2025 turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The game holds up remarkably well, both technically and creatively in my opinion. One of the standout features for me is its visual presentation. The Ghibli-inspired art direction, whimsical character designs, and environments are stunning. Even compared to some more recent JRPGs, the visuals feel both timeless and detailed. The world is full of charm and personality, making exploration a pleasure. Gameplay-wise, the experience remains solid. The real-time combat is responsive and fluid for an action JRPG, at least that's how it felt to me. I encountered no technical issues, even when running the game at over 100 FPS (though I capped it to 144 using NVIDIA’s app for consistency). In addition to combat, the game introduces several side systems — such as kingdom building, community development, and simplified army skirmishes. Wh...
