About This Game

The New Horizons probe to Pluto, a spacecraft that traveled almost a million miles per day for a decade, is one of the most celebrated missions in the history of space exploration. It is by far the longest journey in human history, and you can join us at the destination in immersive virtual reality. Imagery and topographical data sent from the probe have revealed for the first time an astonishing planet filled with the wonders of new, previously unknown geological processes.

What if you could stand on the surface of Pluto and behold some of these wonders up close, as though you were actually there? Using real imagery and data from 3 billion miles away, Destination Pluto: The VR Experience harnesses the power of virtual reality to give you mankind’s first self-guided tour of the surface of Pluto.

Destination Pluto: The VR Experience showcases three different locations based on their unusual geological processes—from the dark canyon lands of Krun Macula in the south; to the glacier spill way of Sputnik Planum’s north shore at the al-Idrisi Mountains; to the pitted high plains of the central Sputnik Planum. Tour these locations from the safety of your own personal space pod, or, if you dare, fly among the hills and canyons yourself. You can even walk around, and heft huge boulders as each location is calibrated with the physics of Pluto’s gravity in mind. Jet-pack across an entire hemisphere of Pluto and even visit the New Horizons spacecraft as it makes its way through the Plutonian System. Descriptive placards highlight points of interest around the landscape.

To learn more about the furthest point of exploration in human history and the incredible technology, precision, and ingenuity that led us to the outer reaches of our solar system, watch Destination: Pluto on CuriosityStream.

As a total space nerd, I loved this game! What an opportunity to explore a vast expanse of Pluto...IN VR! Now, obviously, this game needs a lot of work (mostly data storage optimization). For now, if you have a bit of patience, it is definately worth a try. Can't wait for future updates to this experience.

Nice concept, good atmospheric music, but overall... awful. VR screen keeps fading out with "Please wait while info is loaded" which is very disorientating. It's pretty buggy attempting to actually get out of the vehicle, and switching between the different landscapes is tempermental. Flying around landscapes is fairly nauseating, though that's always going to be a tricky one to solve. Like the idea, poorly implemented

Couldn't even get it to run, then had to reboot my vive because the game wouldn't exit. I hope they get this fixed I was really looking forward to it.

Interesting demo. It takes a long time to load, and the controls are a bit quirky until you get used to them. If the female voice over had said: "please be patient, while data is loading" one more time; I probably would have been looking for a way to cap her ass. All kidding aside, the visual experience is good, and I hope the publisher continues to develop it. Possibly, an exploration of more of the unexplored planets or significant moons in our solar system?

Here's my gameplay video: https://youtu.be/3r__nJO2LY0 I was suprised to see this have so many negative reviews until I saw they looked mostly about gameplay problems. That's too bad because it's a neat exprience; I was fortunate enough no to have any of those problems. I love space stuff so I enjoyed scooting aorund the planet. I couldn't find the geyser thinger that was in the video though =(

Avoid this for now, calling it "playable" would be going too far. Any time you move or try to do anything you get caught in constant load screens. I couldn't even leave my ship to go to the surface. I also drove through the world once and had the terrain fail to load in. Could be neat if it gets a lot of updates, but unless you want to feel frustration avoid for now.

I had fun flying around pluto and imagining what it is really like. For the price of free why not?

Superb, especially for the price, that does not exist! I had no issues or crashes (GPU R390 8GB). It is like google VR but on Pluto and with a spaceship: to fly, to walk around inside (fun) and exit/enter for space walks (even more fun). Its a nice worthwhile experience for free that even none space fans will enjoy!

"Please be patient while data is loading." I wish this was better. It would be a cool way to look at the New Horizons' data but right now it is not. If you are patient and want to try to beat this buggy UI, please try it. Otherwise spare yourself the huge download and wait a couple patches.

Severe loading problems even on a SSD and i7. Reprojection everywhere even on a 1070. Jaring scene changes. An instant headache as you can see by my play time. It's a great idea and I want it to work. I'll try it again in the future.
