Most bosses are total pushovers even Gwyn is a cake walk (if you parry him) Impossible to do quests or achievements without a guide The second half of the game is bad Grindy and boring achievements Peak NPCs and voice acting Really good world building Exploration is really fun Great game with issues

Some simply good things: + Insanely beautiful Dark fantasy aesthetic + Difficulty so high its almost liberating + Once you get the hold of gameplay and combat mechanics, other games start to feel almost disappointing And some bad things with a silver lining: - Story and quests are only explained though vague dialogue and item descriptions, no journal notes no nothing to keep track of what has happened or what should be done next + By not holding your hand you have the full liberty to go wherever you want, and it will always benefit you in some way ( okay sometimes the benefit is to learn that you should not have gone somewhere yet :D ) + Since nothing is shown or explained, and the game throws hidden pathways and illusory walls, player is encouraged to explore the world deeper than whats on the surface. - Doesn't explain many of the gameplay mechanics + Feels exciting to learn something after 10 hours of playing - If comparing to later released games in the series, t...

I'm glad I started the Dark Souls series with the first entry, because it also seems the most basic, mechanically speaking. Not saying it was easy, but the combat system for this game was fairly straightforward and definitely felt easy to learn yet hard to master. Despite this, I really liked it. Bosses, for the most part, felt pretty fair to fight in this game. The game hints at what kind of enemies you are about to face with items placed before you encounter them, and even so, you don't need these items most of the time. I was told about the rushed second half of this game before playing, and it absolutely shows. Especially in Lost Izalith. And even then, I didn't HATE it... but it was definitely not as strong as the first half. The bosses were certainly my favorite part of this game. Walking into a fight and mentally asking myself, "What is this thing going to do that I haven't seen before and how am I going to counter it?" was really engaging as it encourages looking at pas...

This is a truly revolutionary third-person action RPG set in a depressing dark fantasy world. This was my first time playing, and I finally understand all the hype. I can truly appreciate all its genius and influence. The challenging but fair combat in a very atmospheric setting was my main selling point. If you're still on the fence, don't be discouraged. It's not overly difficult, and you don't need a controller to enjoy it, so give it a try! Pros: - Very interesting multiplayer system; - Good optimization; - Memorable characters; - Great visuals; - Interesting lore; - Outstanding combat system; - Great enemy variety and design; - Awesome soundtrack; - Great art design; - Attention to details; - An atmospheric world; - Outstanding level design; - Great replayability; - Unique and interesting storytelling; Cons: - The controls for keyboard and mouse could be much better.

Overrated Glorpshit. People need to get their head out of their nostalgia filled asses and accept the truth that the game aged horribly.

Everyone knows dark souls in punishing but this.... its a different level. I dont just mean the bosses. Alot of the decisions made dont make sense design wise. I came here after elden ring for the lore but after this i might just watch people play it on youtube. The last portion of the game i wasnt really having what i would call fun. I have alot more to say but this game drained me on a spiritual level. I dont even wanna type this review anymore. But that being said it has a strong community so i must be the problem. I guess its just not for me

Peak game design with an incredible interconnected world and a journey that will stick with you for a lifetime.. if you just don't give up. Seriously one of the best soundtracks and ambiance I've ever listened to in a video game or any medium. Don't you dare go hollow.
