About This Game

Castle Battles streamlines the mechanics of classic, top-down strategy to create a fast paced style of gameplay like no other. Expand your empire by building castles near bountiful resources, collect gold to amass outlandish armies, and swarm your enemies in 40 unique levels.

Explore the illustrated world of “The Great Tapestry” through four story-rich campaigns: Fight to reclaim your lost homeland as Les Moustachiers. Laugh maniacally as The Clearly Evil Empire. Discover the astral mysteries of The Purperilous. And finally, set out on a hero’s journey as The Order of Awesome to stop the narrative from unravelling.

No soulless micro-transactions to help you here! Classic 4X style mechanics are condensed to their strategic core, meaning action packed matches are measured in minutes rather than hours. Thousands of troops can be in action at a time leading to all out swarm warfare.

The game is pretty. It's story is quirky and often funny. It oozes love and artistic talent in the kind of way that satirical Indy comic books or youTube video series do. But those, you can usually enjoy without charge. Truly, if ironic dialogue were all I was looking for, and the price was lower, I'd be recommending it. But alas, this is supposed to be a Strategy... GAME... Not a quirky comic book. By the 10th map in the first campaign it became too painful to continue playing. The unforgiving UI, with its clumsy controls obviously designed to be easily ported to a touch pad, makes any kind of precision control of your units FRUSTRATING if not impossible. And the lack of ANY mechanics changes (since the very first map) or even new unit types or special abilities (after closing in on two hours of play) told me that they were unlikely to be there at all. TL;DR The game, mechanically, is an under developed Galcon/Eufloria wanabe that might be worth half the price if you enjoyed t...

Simple to play, fast-paced, awesome story. Not to mention absolutely gorgeous. It's easy to spend hours getting engrossed in the game, but simple enough to have fun with even if you only have a few minutes to kill. It's a beautifully polished game with a lot of heart; it's apparent that a lot of love went into the production. Definitely a must-have.

Short and simple, but satisfying! The game is simple to learn, and while I won't quite say "difficult to master", you'll definitely feel a sense of progression over the course of the campaigns. The story just gets more and more captivating the further into the game you go, and the visuals, music, and voice-work are all extremely impressive! This game is easily worth the price of admission, and I for one would be happy to buy DLC down the road.

I got this game when it released a week or two ago and have been playing it pretty regularly since. As a disclaimer, I'm nowhere near finishing the game- I've only finished two of the four campaigns. So far, I am definitely loving this Catan-esque RTS. One of the first things I noticed (and loved) about the game was the music. From the title screen and all through the campaign, I was engrossed in the soundtrack. For such a small production, the music is absolutely stellar. The visuals are also very well done and I love the detail in all the castle and units, although I wish there was an ingame option to tone down the blur effects (I have sensitive eyes). The UI is crisp and clean although it's not entirely intuitive, I had gotten the hang of it by the second or third level. Luckily, the "tutorial" stages do a great job of teaching and pacing this information. The voice acting is another highlight for me. It's utterly ridiculous, over the top, and self-aware and for that I love it. Pai...

This is similer to a few rts games like plantets under attack in how the mechanics work but, maps are huge and, it works since its slower. but, there is a lot of depth to it. If you like 4x games like civ but, want something faster but, slow enough that its a strategy game not a reflex game try this game out. plus, the story is fun.

For the tl:dr crowd, A decent game, easy mechanics to learn, a funny story with plenty of puns, worth it for the story. The sound track is nice too. A rather simplistic game, you mass units that are identical to your opponent's and aim to take control of all the territory on the map by suiciding them into enemy castles. The usual strategy involves either out producing the AI or waiting for them to waste their units in an assault then counter attacking. There are three resources, stone (grey) is used to build more castles faster, gold(yellow) is used to produce units and medows(green) let's your castles upgrade faster. An upgraded castle controls more territory and thus can reach resources more than hexigon away. The story is interesting enough. When your first opponent is called The Clearly Evil Empire you know what sort of story to expect. Plenty of puns and cliches but it works and will get a few laughs and eye rolls at least. The game was made for mobile as well as PC and the ...

Cool riff on the amoeba style RTS where you conquer nodes, gain troops at a steady pace, and the only unit is basically a one-for-one trade. The main parts that make it cool are: - Troops don't automatically beat an enemy troop and die--it seems to be a coin flip, so fights are 100% obvious in outcome - The speed at which you expand is dependent on a couple special kinds of terrain. This means where you expand matters, and how you expand matters--you get to try to calculate the time it would take to build a new node vs how long it will take to expand. - terrain affects how fast your troops move, and where they spawn in a more imaginative way than the usual node-centric setup. Thinking about distance and timing makes this more interesting than the typical version of this game. - Art is fucking weird as hell and I love it. It's like a fever dream internet thing along the lines of Hotline Miami or Ghost in the Shell's digital world.

This is one fun little game, and its diffculty isn't too bad, but it does become challenging as you play. Well worth the price.

WARNING! Played this game when it was still in beta, and it kept me hooked for 3 consecutive days. I even had a repetitive movement strain on my right arm because I couldn't stop playing. If you are looking for something to get hooked on and forget about everything else, then you found it. Just don't tell me I didn't warn you!

A nice concept borrowed from Galcon Fusion and Mushroom Wars after that. It has an appealing art-style and intriguing game-play design but like both those aforementioned titles suffers from balance issues (after the initial promise) and is ruined when it becomes impossible to progress. Control Craft 2 is the only game of this type where i did not encounter such balance issues. So that's that.
