This game has been in early access for almost 8 years now, and since then has seen very little in the way of content updates. The developer seems to be far too busy streaming and playing videogames to dedicate himself properly to the development of his game. Prior to Steam updating their policy on abandonware and giving a notice when early access games haven't seen updates in a long time, this game has gone over a year without an update. Since that change, the developer began sending out monthly "updates" which have been simple dialogue tweaks at best in order to give the impression that it is being diligently worked on. The spritework is very pretty, so kudos to the artist. However, the story is lacking (it begs you to care about characters you meet for 2 minutes or less) and the writing is painfully unfunny and difficult to sit through. Puzzles are bare bones basic and require 0 brain power to solve. Most are "move this from here to there" type of puzzles, if you can call them that....

About This Game
- Follow Lore and Baron on their adventures through time and space.
- Handle combat through a series of unique mini-games with varying objectives.
- Change the story through exploration and interaction with the world.
- A massive series of optional cryptographic puzzles that can be solved as a community.
- Varying environments with unique pixel art, an inspired soundtrack, and tons of extra socks.
- That awful feeling when you do something terrible to someone who loves you.
- More gags than you can shake a stick at. Binder can lend you one of his if you don't bring your own.
- Advanced sadness.
Heartbound does not use the traditional systems of Levels, Experience, or Consumables. Everything is skill-based and combat can change based on your relationships with others or things you have done. Weapons can be found throughout the world and they augment how much damage you deal in certain situations.
Every enemy you encounter has unique mini-games that you will not see anywhere else in the game. There are no random battles and a number of encounters are avoidable based on how you progress. Combat never ends in death and defeating someone allows you to see their memories from their perspective. What you do from there is up to you.

User Reviews
EDIT: THIS REVIEW IS MARKED AS POSITIVE BECAUSE I HAD A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WHILE PLAYING THE GAME. This should not mean I am telling you to spend money on the game. My take on that is that if the game ever gets out of early access it might be a good purchase, since my experience has been positive. Pirate Software (the developer of this game) has been receiving a lot of hate recently, and the game has suffered review bombing because of it. Does he deserve the hate? I'm not in a position to answer that. What I can say is that review bombing shouldn't be used this way. It's not like he's some J.K. Rowling-level figure. If you're genuinely trying to figure out whether the game is good and worth your money, here's my honest take:
Up until the playable content runs out, I was having a fantastic experience
As for whether Pirate Software (Thor) deserves the hate—look into it yourself and weigh all sides. Personally, I thin...
Jason didn't finish a "98% ready" ACT 3 for 3 years now. Avoid. The game itself is bad as it is with mediocre writing and unsatisfying combat.
Just play undertale, its actually good and finished. This game has been abandoned by the dev and will never get finished.
